      This is probably a stupid question, but would it be possible to use this in conjunction with, say, a PE of windows? I have one here which has speech. If not, as a blind user this would be pretty hard for me to use. Does the guy take suggestions? As this is just a bootable dos interface does it not just use the command line?

      Hmm… He does take suggestions, and I will make one on your behalf to see if he has any ideas.  He generally codes exclusively in assembler, which means he doesn't make many demands on the OS, which is good for what his utility does, but would be bad for interfacing to a speech interface.  The issue is you don't want to be testing the disk at the same time as the OS would ever write to it, and Windows is very hands on with the disks when its running, unfortunately.  Also, you don't want bad drivers getting in the way of the tests, and/or causing unwanted caching, etc.  Never the less its a great question and I will get back to you if he gets back to me.

      So I heard back quickly, and I'm afraid the answer is not all that we would have hoped:

      Unfortunately SpinRite cannot run from with Windows PE.

      He would need to find and load a DOS-based screen reader to run SpinRite … or get visual assistance.

      Thank you for your cooperation, time and patience.

      Sincerely,

      I do believe there is still jaws for dos over at http://www.freedomscientific.com
      How it works I have no idea, having limited experience with it, however. And how it would integrate I am also not sure.

      Is this a program that runs with the OS itself? or is does it require to be booted from USB or what not?

      SpinRite is an "instant" purchase, and you will get a link to an ISO file which is personalized with your name and serial #.  This ISO contains a self-contained OS (FreeDOS) that boots from Floppy (yeah right), CD/DVD or USB as you require.  The only requirement for it to work with your disk is that it be visible to the BIOS… it looks only at disk sectors, so it doesn't care what (if anything) is on the disk from an formatting perspective.  (Its well known to be useful on  PVR disks, for example, if removed from the PVR and temporarily installed in a PC.)  The current version does not work [well or at all] with Macs, but he has a 6.1 version which will be a free upgrade for current purchasers and will boot on current Macs.

    • Anyone else done/want this done to them? Take jock off with teeth

      So a fantasy of mine has always been to be a total puppy to someone and take their sweaty jock off with my teeth. Anyone had this done to them /done it to anyone? Was it hot to you? Or was it more work than you thought?

    • RE: Screenshots and help with them

      @bear1515:

      Well, Screenshots are good to make other people know what is the torrent about. And at last one is required to post it. Any player have an option to take a screenshot of the video. And in Media Player Classic you can go in File - Save Thumbnail, it will take a screenshot of many moments of the movie. It's the best way.

      And I have some questions if you don't mind. How does a blind person watch porn? Do you get only audio, or do you hear the audio of movies? And how do you know it's a good video if you can't see the actors and what are they doing?

      Forgive me for this questions, but I have these curiosities, hehe.

      I use audio. The audio has to be a certain way for me e.g plenty of verbal, etc. I hate music. Can't stand it. That's something I've never done is have someone describe what is happening in the video, but I certainly wouldn't be adverse to trying 😉

      @raphjd:

      Good modern AV software shouldn't be too much of a drain on laptops.

      Also if you don't have an old computer, they shouldn't be too power hungry.   Modern AV software uses a small fraction of computer resources compared to 10 years ago.  10 years ago, they could easily use up to 50+% of your computer resources.  Now they use between 10 and 15%, except when doing full scans.

      I'm going to use security essentials as an example here.
      Instal it on something, and copy a file on the same hard drive. A big one, mind you. Take a look at the speed.
      Now, under settings, and realtime protection, turn file monitoring to only incoming files, behavior monitoring off, and network inspection off.
      Now copy the same file. You'll see a huge speed increase - or at least I did.
      That's just one of the things I saw different when I disabled realtime protection - or certain parts of it.
      Also, on battery power, 15 percent is a huge deal to me. I'm on battery for a reason and hense want my computer to last as long as it can.

      @Kilo22:

      What did you mean when you say you are blind? Completely blind? How did you read comment?

      If you're on a windows machine, take a look at http://www.nvda-project.org and http://www.freedomscientific.com
      If you're on a mac, hit command f5. That should tell you everything.
      But yes, I am blind. I have light perception out of my right eye, and nothing out of the left. I can't see shapes, colors, that sort of thing, but I can tell you if the sun is out.

      @NickGWM:

      TBH, it sounds to me like your drive might be having an issue.  For stuff like this, I can't recomend GRC's SpinRite highly enough.  Its kinda expensive, but running it on this drive will let you know if its got issues, and then using it regularly can help with maintenance.  https://www.grc.com
      (For those who tell you its going to become obsolete because of SSD's… guess what, its also useful for initial stress testing of SSD's and can even force them to rewrite their data before problems occur if used for occasional maintenance.)

      Is this a program that runs with the OS itself? or is does it require to be booted from USB or what not?

    • Looking for a video to mp3 converter which can convert folders and keep structur

      Hey there
      For windows, am looking for a video to mp3 converter that keeps folder structure in the output. Free video to mp3 converter is working ok, but it won't do folder structure which is something I'm sorely needing.

    • RE: New to MAC - help please

      I believe control quick is equal to right click in windows. I can't be sure though because voiceover commands are different.
      Yorufukuru (or however you spell that) for twitter, handbreak, VLC, onyx, u torrent, pc monitor (this goes for both windows and mac, by the way, as well as the other part of that for mobiles), bt sync. I feel like I'm missing something but I honestly can't remember. Oh. I also use fan controller for mac, but I'm more of a control freak that way. Oh, one other one - temperature monitor.
      Really depends what you're wanting to do.

    • RE: 'Green' HDD slowing down my system

      I hate wd drives. I went hitachi and never looked back. This Lenovo idea pad s415 has one though, and for a 5400 RPM drive I really have to say its stupid fast. I see copy speeds on the drive at well over 30 mbps.
      Though as to your problem I am honestly stumped there. Ahci, sata, etc drivers all installed for your motherboard (if it has them?) Then again, I have seen sata III motherboards get an ssd and completely brings them back to life so not sure.
