And then there's those who don't have the courtesy to reply a simple "Thank You" after they got a LARGE seed bonus…. i am talking about one specific person a while ago who had uploaded a small-ish video but one that was exactly my taste, i saw the uploader had been given a warning for too low ratio (he was a newbie, probably his first couple of downloads got him there as happens easily) so i appreciated his upload with enough seed bonus to propel his ratio from 0.2 to 2.5 or something and sent him a PM explaining how to convert the seed bonus into upload credits.

Within a couple of hours he had done that but didn't even bother to reply my PM. Not that i would have requested a reply but it would have been nice nevertheless.

And within another few days his ratio was below 0.5 again. But i did NOT help him again.

I rarely download, mostly just upload here but if i do download i am never stingy with the bonus because i got a ton of it due to my uploading... it is a courtesy which takes noting but a few seconds of time.

No problem my friend. I have previously had very nice conversations with other members of the team and was always extremely happy to be here. Just that today i was in fact caught breaking a rule of which i didn't know it had been changed and that is why i wanted to highlight that one person who pointed me to said rule instead of first banning me and then letting me guess for what (as happened some other place).

So a rule had been changed a while back and i was not aware of it - as most people i read them once in a while but not too often. As a result i was actually breaking the rules for quite some time - and would have to accept any consequences right down to a ban.

This did not happen!

Instead a moderator contacted me nicely to make me aware of the change, which happened a few months back already, and was even so nice to explain (in a second message none less!) how and why it happened.

And that deserves a praise, the guy in question is xxxxx and i love him for being a real human moderator, no "i am god" complex and no power trips as i have experienced on a certain other site in the past.

This is why i love gaytorrent.ru, the staff here is just simply nice!

And here publicly i promise to check the rules on a weekly basis now to make sure i won't break them ever again.

Umm one should also check the box "torrent description" as for example myself often, if not always, post collections of videos with a list of the single videos' names in the description. I use that method myself to make sure i am not uploading something that i uploaded before….....

Many thanks for the answers. Yes, this is a really useful feature and i highly appreciate it. I even used it already As i got a bunch of points and don't really need to convert them into gigabytes, i believe i could not even get below my minimum ratio with pure downloading, it would take me a year at least with zero upload and full-speed download I rather keep uploading, it really feels good to have a three-digit ratio.

This is really a great feature and very clever idea, many thanks to those who invented and implemented it

However a question. As i primarily upload here i don't really need to receive additional seed bonus points, although of course i appreciate them. Now is it possible to "re-distribute" them also without downloading a torrent? For example if a torrent is uploaded which i already have however i like the video and wish to encourage seeding such material (shemale..!) or i simply like the uploader if i know him personally, can i say "Thank you" and give points without having to download the torrent in question?

Isn't there a Mac port of uTorrent? That does make torrents rather nicely…. i make all mine with it, and also use in to seed/leech (even at home under Linux, which requires Wine but works flawlessly).

I'd also like to have a Mac.... then run OS-X, Ubuntu and Vista on it

I think most sites don't give you anything in form of bonuses for seeding, let alone uploading/initial seeding. In my personal humble opinion it should not be required…. people who download should also upload at times, not only seed back what they downloaded but also upload material for others, it's the spirit of file sharing.

I have uploaded a ton of material i had from a whole bunch of other places, i would still do so but currently don't have the technical ability (my office moved to a new location and we don't have a leased line yet - it can take a couple of months!) but as soon as i have a line again i will upload again, and meantime i might even throw in a torrent on my slow home ADSL line which i will have to turn off during nights.

I don't do it for the points but to share with the community. If i could give away the points to others who might need them to get their ratios up i would do so......

These speed test sites are VERY unreliable. I found out about that as soon as i had completed setup of the leased line system at my offic and wanted to test if we get the speed the ISP promised. Using the "speedtest.net" site, i got roughly a QUARTER of what we were supposed to get, regardless which region/server i chose.

On the phone with the ISP, they told me NOT to use any speed-test kind of website, but something more reliable - BIT TORRENT. No joke.

So i started downloading a well-seeded (and leeched) movie off Isohunt and within 15 minutes i knew that we get the proposed speed, exactly to the bit.

Right now, at my place, according to speedtest.net i get 984 kbps down, 329 kbps up (all torrents stopped). With a bunch of torrents from various sources active i get about 1480 kbps down and at the same time 405 kbps up - which is because i have throttled uTorrent to max. 50 kB/s upload. Again, this is with a number of torrents being connected to peers all over the place, while speedtest.net tests the connection between YOU and ONE place - and if there's water in the line or that server is busy, you seem to get slow speeds while in reality you get a lot from your ISP. My line btw (if you wonder why it's s much slower than yours) is a 1.5M/512k ADSL, private people can't get much more in Thailand (we have 2M/512k as well).

And before someone wonders again and thinks i'm some sort of cheater re: my ratio, i am NOT seeding here from home, but use a "seed line" with a dedicated computer at my office, seeding on one of the IP's of that leased line there which is to 90% under-used and my boss told me to "keep it busy", and what's a better way than seeding torrents

Altough i rarely post in the forums and even download rarely (but upload a lot) i am ALWAYS well informed about the things that go on. For example the "invite only" pretty much jumped right into my eye when i opened the page from my FF bookmark. There was a link which went straight (ummm… i'm gay actually!) to the forum discussion thread.

That system is EXCELLENT, users don't HAVE to go to the forum and click thru some "forum news" whatever link/topic/subtopic to get the news - the important stuff is right on the front page.

Now if one is too lazy to read THAT then he shouldn't complain about a "lack of news announcements".

About the donations - you don't have to if you don't want to. Keeping a good enough ratio may be difficult for some and they do have the possibility to donate to keep their status, i know one other site where, if you have a low ratio, you can't download - even if you donate a thousand bucks. And also that site doesn't accept PayPal but instead you have to sign up with some, to be frank, rather "dodgy" site in order to donate with a credit card. If you, like me, have no credit card - can't donate (or send cash - trust in the postal system??) and you don't even get a "star" if you donate....

Again, here it is WAY better.

Lade doch einfach mal einen eigenen Torrent hoch…. das geht ne ganze Ecke schneller Wie gesagt zu Hause hab ich ja auch bloss so 50 kB/s upload (ne 1,5M/512K ADSL halt) und da krieg ich pro Tag (laeuft nur von morgens bis spaet abends, nicht ueber Nacht) auch gute 1.5 GB hochgeladen.

Oder mach halt Deine download-Geschwindigleit langsamer - wenn Du nur mit 50 kB/s hochladen kannst, stelle Dein Torrent-Programm so ein dass es nur mit 50 kB/s runterlaedt - dann dauert DAS zwar laenger, dafuer haeltst Du aber automatisch ein 1:1 ratio

Das Zauberwort in so einer Situation heisst "Upload"…... ohne zu prahlen, ich hab mein Ratio schon auf ueber 47 hochgeschafft, und ich bin auch in nem Entwicklungsland - zu Hause hab ich auch bloss 50 kB/s zum hochladen.

ABER ich darf mir eine der IP's meiner Firma fuer Privatzwecke greifen, und da haengt ne 100 kB/s Leitung dran - Standleitung sogar. ich hab die auf 90 kB/s reduziert weil mir sonst der Computer abschmiert (ist so'n uralter Compaq Deskpro mit gerade genug Festplatte dass ich einen Torrent in DVD-Groesse draufpacken kann.... und mit dieser "Seedbox" lade ich hoch was die Leitung hergibt

Aber selbst mit 20 kB/s kann man tolle Ratios erreichen - einfach mal ein paar Tage nur hochladen, am besten nen Torrent mit ordentlich Leechern, dann klappt das spitzenmaessig.

Unfortunately not, Tom… i never touched that torrent before i received that PM, reason being that i have that video already from a different source....... and for me, once i start downloading a torrent i pull thru with it, i never stop an incomplete one

Also it doesn't show up in my list of torrents, which i suppose incomplete ones should show up too? Like, when i start downloading one, it's there immediately.

I don't want to keep this off-topic, but i have a couple of things to mention - one, Derektheking, you were right there with me on that day it happened (screen shot attached), so you've sen what they did. After, they tried to cover up and pretend i threatened them before it happened, but as i said, i have the evidence to prove them wrong. But anyway it's a thing of the past - just wanted to say "thank you" for your trying to support me back then.

Then, i have in fact been offered the "Moderator" position here, thing is that altough i cover an Asian time zone (at present actually rather well - 5 AM to 11 PM Bangkok time daily….. when would i sleep??) but unfortunately i won't be able to help in regards to "Asian language" - i am a native of Germany, altough adopted by Vietnamese (hence my non-German name), my skills in Asian languages are very limited - i speak understandable Vietnamese and enough Thai to survive on my own, yet i can't read or write either language. My reading/writing is restricted to German and English, both of which i am rather fluent in.

And then there is the problem with work - i rather don't do a job than do it badly, and altough at present i seem to have some free time between work duties, it was different and may be different again - there are days where i can hardly take a sip of Pepsi because i am rotating in the office like a propeller, such days i can't even sneak into my e-mail, and it may be possible that i am "full on" at the office for 16 straight hours. And i rather be "no moderator" than "moderator who doesn't do his job". I am very happy to support this site by seeding torrents and the occasional donation (which i almost did on that other site just a few days before i got kicked - the reason i did NOT was because there was no PayPal acceptance and for sending cash it better be worth - i had a 100 Euros prepared however my boyfriend, wise guy, stopped me - saying "they make you problem before, why pay for them?". He had no idea how right he was!

Then - my seemingly high post count there was nothing compared to others, and it took me over two years to get there..... i was a member there for that long. Which is why i got so furious, even threatening the one person (and only that one, contrary to some BS they published!) when my account got completely deleted instead of the ban lifted as was promised.

As you seem to have access to "that person" 's e-mail i am sure you are either "the one" using a different name here or you are one of "the bunch" responsible for destroying my two year's efforts. As they have always protected themselves rather than applying justice, i don't expect you either knowing the truth and just being fed selected pieces OR you still are an insider trying to protect their unjust actions even here. I don't mind it, it's past and should stay past, however just to inform you that i have neither pressed on with the legal issue (yes, i did contact the studios, yes, i did provide details, carefully avoiding to name site or user and yes, i had feedback from them but no, i did NOT, as requested by them, bring forward name and address of that user, which are available to me). You should please also understand that it hurt like hell when i got banned instead of the one that deserved the ban, when i saw that all the people that i trusted in (the admins there) fell in my back protecting "one of theirs" even if it was so openly visibly that i was right and he was wrong, that they resorted to selective lying and cheating (modifying my ratio to that of "suspended leecher"!!!) just to make sure the truth won't be told (yes, that forum post and my "shoutbox" comments were censored, bits and pieces removed before the whole thread was removed).... just imagine your boyfriend of two years with whom you had a very satisfying relationship suddenly and without notice walks out on you and in the process nicks your TV and Stereo and empties your bank account - just how would YOU feel?

And yes, that site was like a boyfriend to me, a place where i spent 75% of my freetime when not with my actual boyfriend. Now it's just an ex and i don't want to meet him again as long as he doesn't invite me back in and restores my status in the process. I am not interested in joining there as a "newbie" again, it's only them who's missing out on my help in the forums.

THAT happened WEEKS after the ban and AFTER the promised "end of the ban after 20 days" instead turned into a complete deletion of the account. Get your facts straight, please.

Want some more facts? I've got them all as photographic evidence. But that's got nothing to do with THIS site or it's approval system, so shouldn't show up here in first place.

Yes, he was an admin. The first time i complained about him he banned me in the English forum, so i contacted the site admin/owner thru the German part and the ban was removed. The second time it happened again i was banned on the English site (by the same person!) and again i contacted the site owner, just that this time i received a really nasty e-mail from that very person and the ban was widened to all forums. Plus my ratio was modified in a way that i became a "suspended leecher" so i could not download/seed torrents that i had. Then my boyfriend signed up an account (without my knowledge) in order to help me out and he, too, got banned without having done ANThing wrong. After THAT i started threatening the person that banned me initially with legal action against him, and later then it was laid out that the reason for my ban was this threatening - despite it happened long after the ban. I simply wanted my access back - i had 800 GB seeded and 600 GB leeched, over 500 forum posts etc, never done harm to anyone and helped a lot of people with all sorts of problems. Alas, the admins there preferred to stick together and keep me out as a "troublemaker". I know that since, several other people who dared complaining about said person or any other admin for whatever reason have gotten banned as well (i've got ears). That's their way of solving problems - shoot the messenger. Here it is so much better - such problems won't arise in first place

I am sure a person HERE who doesn't complete uploads on a regular basis will soon no longer have a chance to upload….. which is the best. I don't miss the other site.

I have just read this thread and now wish to say something as well. While the rule does not apply for me (i guess my good behaviour is honoured, thanks a lot to the moderators here and specially Tom!) i am all for the approval.

The reason is that i myself have actually gotten banned on "another gay torrents site" despite maintaining a very good ratio over more than two years and in the end having more than 1.4 TB of traffic on my account, plus around 600 forum posts, most of which were of the nature to help others.

Why was i banned? because i publicly and repeatedly complained about one specific uploader almost never completing his uploads - he uploaded particularly larger files (over 1 GB) and "pulled the plug" when the swarm reached above 90 %. His excuse was then "I have uploaded x amount of megabytes, i consider it done". And then he deleted his files, hence making it impossible to re-seed! That was what he answered in PM's upon being asked politely for such re-seed because nobody ever completed a download from him.

So i went "public" in the forum, and that was when the trouble came in - as that said uploader was, imagine that, an ADMIN on that site, meaning one who should be particularly aware of the rules! And instead of changing his seeding (or rather non-seeding) habits, he used his admin powers to ban me and anyone else who dared to complain about him.

That torrent site has become a large monkey-house where lots and lots of torrents are non-seeded from the start as they have no approval system at all - everyone can upload and any torrent appears right away on the list, seeded or not. They say that it would be "better" to wait for a swarm to build before starting to seed-  i can't follow that as here, i am happily seeding as soon as the first peer comes on and connects to me.

Also on that site, torrents are regularly deleted by one particular admin who's primary function seems to be deleting torrents - either for "violation of rules" which often is pure fiction or for "almost dead" torrents - i have wasted many gigabytes of downloads because torrents were deleted before i was able to finish them, slow torrents with 1-2 seeders and a few leechers, but anyway still active! They don't keep "dead" torrents, saying "if you want it, wait for someone to upload it again".

Here, torrents need to be seeded to get approved, and that is good so. Also i find it very good that only a certain number of active torrents are allowed - depending on the user's bandwidth. Superb! As on that other site, one can upload 29 torrents in one go, even on a dialup connection! Frustrating for leechers. Here it is taken care for the file to be available as quickly as possible, which speeds up the process for everyone, including the seeder/uploader. For myself, i am now on a limit of "5" torrents during initial uploading, however i still stick to one only - even with a dedicated IP on the leased-line system in my office, the good upload speed along with a single torrent uploading makes it quickly available for leechers and everyone is happy (including myself, seeing my ratio going thru the roof).

Lastly, i found a single quirk in the system here which may make for frustrated uploaders waiting for approval - this once caught myself. This site's upload system has the habit of "losing" pictures. Meaning, when i upload, i upload one or several pictures, everything is fine - except for after hitting the "Do It!" button, the pictures have disappeared. Does not happen everytime, but a few times already - and one time it was the reason why i did not get a torrent approved for over 7 hours - there were no pictures and i didn't know that as i had uploaded some. The pictures being a requirement for approval, them disappearing is no good. Which is why i would recommend a single change in the approval process - approve a torrent even if there is no picture, but send the uploader a PM saying he should add/re-add pictures (by "edit torrent" it's done easily) and, to encourage them to actually do that, add a warning like "if there's no pictures within 24 hours the torrent will be pulled".

I hope my opinion/suggestion will be accepted… after all, i am very happy to have found a nice home here, not missing "that other site" at all. I will continue sharing my large video collection with the guys here because it is a very satisfying feeling to see a torrent completing UPload

I myself? As left as anyhow possible. Been member of the communist party in Germany, actually. Still a commie by heart. But in this country i can't vote because i'm a foreigner (i live in Thailand now) and here we have the same political alternatives as above - i.e. a number of plates filled with shit. My boyfriend votes for the smallest available party which is guaranteed not to get anywhere, just to make sure none of the big ones gets his vote and he still done his duty as a Thai citizen.
