    • Georgia’s Special Election Couldn’t Look Much Closer

      he special election to fill a congressional seat in Georgia’s 6th District may be anyone’s game, according to the final round of polling on the race.

      Earlier surveys gave Democrat Jon Ossoff, who was backed by record levels of fundraising, a slight edge over Republican Karen Handel, whom he led by 2 to 3 points in most surveys. Ossoff led by 7 points in both a WXIA-TV poll conducted by SurveyUSA in May and an Atlanta Journal-Constitution survey from Abt SRBI in early June.

      A subsequent SurveyUSA poll, however, found the race tied, as did a second poll conducted for WSB-TV. One survey, from the GOP-affiliated Trafalgar Group, gave the edge to Handel, although it remains the only recent poll to do so.

      Given the margin of error inherent in any survey ― not to mention the added difficulty of predicting who will turn out to vote in an off-year House runoff ― and the race looks about as close as it can get.

      “We’re seeing this now an almost dead even race into the final 24 hours,” GOP pollster Mark Rountree, who conducted the WSB-TV survey, told the station. Both Handel and Ossoff described the race Monday as “neck and neck.”

    • Steve Bannon On White House Cutting Down On Press Briefings: ‘Sean Got Fatter’

      The Trump administration can’t seem to defend its press access restrictions or why it’s holding fewer briefings with Sean Spicer.

      Amid the White House gradually shutting out journalists and reports that Sean Spicer is looking for a way out of his role, Steve Bannon had a bizarre explanation for the press secretary’s disappearing press briefings.

      “Sean got fatter,” the White House chief strategist told The Atlantic’s Rosie Gray.

      Bannon did not respond to a follow-up question, Gray wrote.

      @raphjd:

      @sutieday:

      Btw, those people downvoting are essentially saying it is acceptable to attack Muslims and not have the President respond in a timely manner to such acts.

      You are a typical bike lock liberal, with your blatant hypocrisy.

      You spam the fuck out of the down vote button against your enemies no matter what they say.   You don't care what is said, you look for the name of the poster.

      I never knew that disagreeing with a poster implied that you would want to hit them with a bike lock ???

      And I know why you and Frederick have yet to respond to the initial post. Both of you have no problem with Muslims being attacked by bigoted/hateful people because you think they're all terrorists. And you probably support actions by racist white supremacist stabbers, such as this:

    • Why won’t Donald Trump rush to tweet criticism of attacks against Muslims?

      Donald Trump tweeted about the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015 about 3½ hours after they occurred. The following month, he tweeted about the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., 90 minutes after the violence began. It took fewer than 12 hours from the time an EgyptAir flight went missing in May 2016 for Trump to speculate publicly that the attack was terror-related. More than a year later, it’s still not clear what happened to the plane.

      When terrorists drove a van into a crowd on London Bridge earlier this month, Trump tweeted about the need to be “smart, vigilant and tough” even before authorities identified terror as the motive behind the attack.

      @raphjd:

      Nah, you can continue to be a government sheep. People should oppose the gov, you probably would be doing that too had Hillary won, hypocrite.

      And you would still be a bike lock liberal licking Hillary's vag like a good leftist cuck.

      Crude reply, as expected from our moderator.

      @Frederick:

      The characteristics of a good citizen include being honest, fair, patriotic, and having a big cock.
      The opposite of being a good citizen is being a traitor.
      So.. what do we call people who are dishonest, unfair, resist the government, and have a tiny dick?
      I call them moonbats, but traitor also works.

      @raphjd:

      Tim Farron finally quit as leader of the UK's LibDem party (leftists).     He is a homophobe and religious nutter, yet his party supported him as leader.

      So tell me again how it's the conservatives who are homophobes.

      Does the existence of liberal homophobia make conservative homophobia disappear?

      @raphjd:

      At least the Russians have valid reasons to protest, unlike liberal Americans.

      People shouldn't need a "valid reason" to protest. This is the difference between liberals and conservatives, conservatives prefer the status quo and don't like change.

      Ok, raphjd, we get it.  In the Orwellian world that is gaytorrent.ru, Politics & Debate, you were forwarded some material from the HelpDesk that was unfavorable to you.  And with your cute little sunglasses emoji, you're telling us that behind those shades, you're the closest thing to the site's omniscient Oracle, and you're taking names.

      Fine.  Enjoy.

      Ok, I'll just let people think they can be sneaky and shop for staff to do their bidding.

      And yet, we have a moderator that has allowed this original thread post – completely devoid of political content but full of taunting -- to continue, as if it merited a place here.

      So yes, I can completely understand why a GT member would be looking to find another administrator for arbitration of an issue here in Politics & Debate.

      This thread does not meet criteria and it needs to go.  Lock it up, I say!  Lock it up!

      Agreed, this post belongs in the "Rants & Raves" board.

    • Sheriff David Clarke Reportedly Rescinds Acceptance Of Homeland Security Post

      Clarke notified Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly on Friday of his decision, according to reports.

      (Reuters) - Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, an African-American who became a staunch critic of the Black Lives Matter movement and a supporter of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, has withdrawn his acceptance for a job as assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. newspapers reported on Saturday.

      Clarke notified Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly on Friday of his decision, Craig Peterson, an adviser to Clarke, said in a statement, according to the Washington Post and other newspapers.

      “Sheriff Clarke is 100 percent committed to the success of President Trump and believes his skills could be better utilized to promote the president’s agenda in a more aggressive role,” the newspapers quoted Peterson as saying.

      Neither the agency nor Clarke’s office immediately responded to requests for comment.

    • RE: US sailors missing after Navy destroyer collision off Japan

      @pppucci:

      This story has me puzzled.  The media are reporting this as the Navy destroyer colliding with the merchant ship.  Yet, the pictures don't show that.  There is a massive difference between being the one that is hit.. and being the one that did the hitting.
      The photos show that the front (bow) of the merchant ship is damaged, while the side (starboard / right side) of the Navy Destroyer is damaged.  In other words, the merchant ship rammed into the side of the Navy destroyer unless the captain of the destroyer has some secret method of travelling through the water sideways.

      Don't blame the media . The verb "collide" is intransitive, especially when using with two moving objects. he container ship obviously hi he destroyer, but i was both their faults for being too close.  And Sutieday, you need to read your history before you go spouting off your mouth.  This accident could have happened under any president since Truman .

      Okay, but there is no denying the fact that the US military has been more aggressive under Trump, as he's increased their budget substantially.
