The general theme of the early part of the book that neither Trump, his family or his campaign expected him to win, so they didn't plan for the disaster if he did makes a lot of sense. It explains why he refused to release his tax returns or even consider the conflicts of interests with his business. Why should he if he wasn't going to win? They were all just hoping for fame and for careers in the right wing media out of nearly winning.

For once I agree with you. Yes, the USA under Obama had a great reputation in the world. Obama even won the Nobel Peace Prize. The great thing about Russia's instalment of the Trumpanzee as US president is the sham that is the USA is revealed to the world in all its ignominy. No more sweeping it under the carpet. The USA spends more on arms than the next 13 countries added together. If they did not start wars and sponsor terrorist groups throughout the world, their war machine economy would fail. The less than a third of the staff of the US state department who have not yet resigned must be pulling their hair out in despair.

I'm back in Australia now and I read an article written by a former senior member of the government saying that the Trumpanzee's failure to appoint an ambassador to Australia after more than a year in office is a diplomatic insult. The reality is, he doesn't have anyone to send. It is amazing how anti-USA feelings have grown so much in the 5 months since I was last here and this from one of their closest allies.

Their recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the European refugee colony temporarily occupying parts of Palestine has been condemned by nearly every other country in the world. The significance of that is far greater than the Palestinian problem. It means that the USA no longer has a leadership position in the world. More and more countries are aligning diplomatically with China and India.

There is a lot of confusion about this question because people confuse two distinct dimensions of the word "gay".

1. innate sexual orientation.
2. identity.

Being primarily sexually attracted to other men is innate, can't be changed and is not a choice.

Identifying personally and socially as gay, is a choice.

We usually call 2 "coming out" or "realising that I am gay" but (believe it or not) some people confuse that with 1 and think we are deciding to be gay.

Yes, and I think that is wrong. Religious beliefs are a choice. Sexuality isn't. It is exactly the same as saying that a racist should be exempt from anti-racial discrimination law. If you want to discriminate against gay people, just join a Christian group.

I think and hope that as more religious groups embrace LGBT+ people, have gay clergy, celebrate gay weddings, the homophobes will be less able to justify themselves by using their religion as an excuse.

Though I respect the UN, I think on the issues of freedom of religion and freedom from discrimination on the basis of religion, the UN has got it wrong. The UN attempts to assert that there is no hierarchy among human rights, but would any sane person agree with the statement : "a religiously motivated racist should be exempt from any law that prevents racial discrimination because it places a restriction on religion freedom" ?

Religion is a choice. Gender, race, age, sexuality are not. I would not refuse to employ someone simply because they are Christian, Muslim, Hindu etc.. but if I learned that a person disapproved of me because of my sexuality based on their religious beliefs, even if I just learned it from their personal social media, they would be out the door in a second.

Some religious beliefs are unacceptable in modern, tolerant, diverse society. If you choose to believe those things about other people, you live with the consequences of your choices. Those consequences may well include unemployment or worse.

Interesting you mention the Chinese economy. I have a colleague who's area is using AI in economic modelling and forecasting. He mentioned two interesting things.

1. How Trump's actions have increased the downside risk in the US economy by a factor of 50. Some minor decisions that I had never even heard of, something about mortgage insurance, have hugely increased the risk of the US economy crashing. And the moron Trump thinks he can start a trade war with China. hahahahaha. Next week he will probably appoint some right wing nut job to the central bank.

2.  The other interesting thing is the extent to which other world economies have decoupled from the US even over the last few months. When Trump crashes the US economy, sure there is a risk of world recession, but economies like Japan, China, India, Brazil, Europe won't be as badly affected as in the GFC. The US can pretty much crash and burn and everyone else will just walk away.

Since your silly prediction 9 days ago that NK is "about to be zapped":

1. NK has launched a ballistic missile over northern Japan.
2. NK has unveiled a miniaturised H bomb able to be fitted into a warhead.
3. NK has tested a H bomb.
4. USA has made idle and pathetic threats and argued that NK is "begging of war" at the UN. A statement rejected by the world.
5. Putin has rejected US calls for more sanctions calling them useless and that NK would eat grass rather than give up the right to DEFEND ITSELF from US aggression.
