    • RE: Trump vs Bannon

      @Shami94:

      One of the most interesting and humorous aspects of the way Trump supporters who would not too long ago would have licked Bannon's boots is how they rationalise turning against him. It is interesting because exactly the same process will be replicated in a few months as they turn on Trump himself.

      It will probably happen most spectacularly when their social media echo chambers can no longer withstand the already massive weight of evidence against Trump over Russian influence on the election scandal.

      For most thinking people, whether or not there was collusion (though there clearly was), whether or not it effected the result of the election (which it did), the mere fact that an enemy of the USA spent millions of dollars and massive effort to help Trump win the US presidency is something that can't be backed away from. It will be extremely hard for any professional journalist or politician who supports Trump to try to deny that they did not realise the significance of that simple and well established fact. The process of them trying to do it will be very interesting for when Trump goes, thousands of careers in politics and journalism also end.

      It is hard to imagine how the die hard Trump supporters will handle having their views so strongly repudiated by a restored American democracy. They will have no voice in the media and no one in politics representing them. Some will likely resort to terrorism and civil violence. Some will find a voice in pathetic and cowardly hate groups like the KKK. It will be fun to watch from a distance.

      Did someone fart?  Oh, nevermind, it was just Shami posting another message.

      @duncanlem:

      Daniels told In Touch. “He told me once that I was someone to be reckoned with, beautiful, smart, just like his daughter”

      Infamously, during a 2006 appearance on The View, Trump complimented his daughter’s body and told the panel, “If Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” Stormy Daniels and Trump may have only had a fling, but he paid her just about the highest compliment he knows.

      This is incredible fake news.  Some magazine that nobody ever heard of is publishing what they say is in interview done 7 years ago that they never bothered to publish before.  Interesting timing.  That magazine also claims that there is a hidden undersea city populated by Bigfoot creatures, and that Elvis is still alive and lives on a pig farm in Indonesia.

      @duncanlem:

      In an interview, Schachtner said she thought she beat state Rep. Adam Jarchow (R-Balsam Lake) because the race had turned nasty in mailings from groups outside the district.

      “It wasn’t nice. It was mean,” she said of the campaign literature. “People just said, ‘You know what? We’re nicer than that.’ ”

      https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/2018/01/16/wisconsin-voters-chose-legislators-tuesdays-special-elections/1038687001/

      This is a traditionally red district…Barack Obama lost the district by 6 points in 2012; Hillary Clinton lost by 17 in 2016.

      This fall is going to be a beautiful thing! It's gonna spread national

      Look what's coming

      That is the WISCONSIN Senate.. not the US Senate.  The Wisconsin Senate means NOTHING outside of Wisconsin.

      Is that a photoshopped image of Barack Obama and Michael wearing "Make The Senate Blue Again" hats?  The reason I ask is.. I have not seen a photo of Barack and Michael together since the 2016 election.

    • California neutered?

      This is a pleasant coincidence…
      I have mentioned in the past that California has 55 of the 538 electoral votes, and is heavily biased towards democrats.  The electoral process allowed JFK and Jimmy Carter to be elected.

      Anyway.. just today, it seems that there is a movement to split California into TWO states.  The democrat controlled coastal counties are EXTREMELY liberal.. so the smaller population of those liberal areas winds up handing 55 electoral votes to the Democrats almost ever election.

      By splitting the state in two, the liberal part would be extremely liberal - like Washington DC, but not carry that many electoral votes.  The larger population republican areas would carry MORE electoral votes..  which would hypothetically result in something like this:
      Instead of California being 55 electoral votes for the democrats.. it would be about 25 electoral votes for the democrats and 32 for the republicans  (2 more added for the 2 added senators) - resulting in about 7 Republican electoral votes between the two Californias.

      To put it simply, if they split California into two states, it will be very rare that a Democrat wins a presidential election.

      Most of the UK doesn't have mayors.   In fact, excluding London, mayors are something that came in in the last 10 years.

      Most "mayors" in the UK are little more than Walmart greeters with drag queen necklaces, silly hats, and a silly cloak.   In Scotland, we have Provosts.   They have no power.   The power is with the Chairperson of the council.

      I didn't know that!  Mayor Khan of London has to go!

    • RE: "Fire and Fury" book… great if you run out of toilet paper.

      @flashboy:

      The over seas correspondents said in Swedish reviews about the book that it would be easy to read, but really it isn't. Yes, there is a lot of words that someone who is not native in English wouldn't knew about, but most of the time you can take a wild guess and make an assumption of what context the word is in. What is so much harder is that the author Michael Wolff is constantly name dropping people I have never heard about like I am supposed to know who it is. I can get that journalists who works in this field has better knowledge, but they should probably know that most people here never heard about most of the people mentioned.
      I googled them, they have not been mentioned in any of the local media. So if you're not an american it is not a book that is easy to read, cause you don't know who they are talking about. If the book would be translated (I think it won't be though) it will need an editor that makes an localization of the book and makes notes on every side of the book about who is whom.

      Trust me, you aren't missing anything.   That Michael Wolff book turned out to be a nothing.  It was promoted as being the tool to end Trump's presidency.  Instead, it turned out to be nothing more than something to line one's bird cage with.

      It reminds me of "Old English".  Find a book in Old English.. the words are English, but are used in a much different way with different meanings.. so that it's almost impossible to understand.

      Michael Wolff is just a pompous slug that nobody will ever hear from again.

      @flashboy:

      In Sweden for about ten years ago when we had an black women in the government, Nyamko Sabuni, (right wing liberal)  she was always by a sort of people on Flashback (it is like a Swedish uncensored version of Reddit) referred to as the ape or the monkey, and there is like no way H&M could not known that. I do think it was an honest mistake from their side, but as long as people keep using the word ape or monkey as a negative term for black people, you don't put a black kid in a tee with that message.

      Yes.. but as long as people keep freaking out when a black kid is put in a tee with that message.. people will continue to associate black people with apes or monkeys.

      They could never make this show with a black cast…

    • RE: US Election System

      @neony:

      1. Structurally, this can happen because a) Most states (all except Maine and Nebraska) award all of the electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote in their state and b) states with smaller populations are overrepresented in the electoral college. The latter is because the number of electors for each state is 2 (the number of senators) + the number of representatives (which are proportional to population.) Therefore, by winning a large number of smaller states, a candidate can end up with a majority of electors even though they may have fewer total votes.

      2. The "swing states," as they are more commonly called, are states that don't reliably vote for the president from a particular party. For instance, California and New York can be expected to vote for the Democratic candidate while Texas and Georgia can be expected to vote for the Republican candidate. Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio (the three largest and probably most frequently mentioned of the swing states) have a more even split between Republicans and Democrats and therefore can "swing" from one party to another from election to election. Other states often considered swing states include Virginia, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, New Hampshire and Colorado.

      Great explanation.  I would add that California has 36,000,000 citizens plus another 11,000,000 illegal immigrants totaling 47,000,000.  Without getting into a complicated analysis of that.  California desperately needs illegal immigrants to harvest their extremely vast crops, and to work off the books as nannys, gardeners, maids, and other labor intensive jobs.  Additionally, people tend to move to California when they are drug addicts and want a banquet of all the drugs they want.  SO, when someone like Trump comes along threatening to enforce the already existing immigration and drug laws, the people of California go nuts - and do whatever they can to prevent that.  For instance, in California and a few other states that all voted for Hillary, they decided to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes.  Without debating the medicinal benefits of marijuana, lets just assume that marijuana has legitimate medicinal use.  In that case, like all other medicines, it should be a controlled substance because it has effects on the brain, and on pain.  It' obviously not just some inert harmless substance.  But then they decided to legalize it for recreational use.. which contradicts it's classification as being a medication.  Honestly, I'm glad that things like marijuana and lotteries get legalized, because they are virtually a tax upon stupid people.

      With that said, Trump KNEW that he had zero chance of winning California, so he never wasted any of his time or money campaigning there the presidential election.  California is a very corrupt state, and carry's 55 of the 538 total electoral votes in the country.  Therefore, any election that a democrat won by less than 55 electoral votes was determined by crazy California.  That means that JFK and Jimmy Carter would never have been president if not for crooked California.  In fact, in the case of John F. Kennedy, we now know that he did NOT win Illinois, and therefore his election was illegitimate.

      One more thing which gets ignored is 3rd party candidates.  The best example of that was the election of George H.W. Bush vs Bill Clinton.  Although the electoral votes make it look like Clinton easily beat Bush Sr.  That is not true.  3rd party candidate Ross Perot got a huge number of votes that would have otherwise gone to Bush.  Perot effectively split the republican votes between himself and Bush.  If Perot was not on the ballot, Bush would have won that election EASILY.

      If Republicans were smart, they would fund black and female 3rd party candidates to split the democratic votes.

      A final comment.. all politicians are power mad, deceptive, two-faced, control freaks.  If they were not, they would not even get on the ballots.  The USA is screwed.  There is no way Trump will make America Great Again.  Trump will keep the USA going strong for a couple of decades before it  fades into being just another country like all the rest - such as happened to England, Germany, Spain, Japan, Italy.. all of which used to be major super powers.  Very few people are aware that Italy ruled England 1600 years ago.

      There is a group of members of Congress who are boycotting Trump's State of The Union Address.
      They all seem to be of a certain race that I won't mention because I don't want to be called racist.

      How stupid is this?  By doing that, they can't be seen nor heard… and their existence is forgotten.  I'm sure Trump is relieved to not have to listen to those moonbats boo, groan and ridicule him.

      Bannon was blasted to little pieces because Trump overreacted and felt disrespected. Like the baby he is, he just couldn't let his former trusted adviser and campaign manager off the hook no matter how much he apologized. In the end, Bannon got kicked out of Breitbart.
      Trump just didnt want to give Bannon a break. The truth hurts, specially when it's spoken by someone you trusted as a top adviser who helped you win the presidency.

      This is ripe.   You are defending Steve Bannon… whom you previously have always condemned.
      By the way, Bannon's apologies came AFTER Trump blasted Bannon.
      Also, Bannon didn't help Trump.  He was always a liability.

      You can go back to your cave now.

      Aww is that the best you can do? Tsk. You've gotten soft having no one to bother to argue with you. 😁
      First off- your blatant lie about me condemning Bannon… Please point to even ONE instance before this thread that I even mentioned him.  He's always been unimportant to me since he's just your run of the mill alt right nut. Uninteresting.😴
      Second- if Bannon was such a liability... Why did Trumpy  himself pick him to lead the campaign? Why did Trumpet hand pick and appoint him to be part of the inner circle in the White House? Deny the truth all you want, but it just looks silly and desperate since all of these facts are readily available in the public record.  😉

      So fun to relive old times Fred. Too bad mhorn is gone. Ciao!  :cheers:

      Original Link: https://www.thedailybeast.com/report-trump-lawyer-arranged-dollar130k-hush-money-to-keep-porn-star-quiet

      A lawyer for Donald Trump arranged a $130,000 payment to a former porn star one month before the 2016 election in an effort to keep her silent about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. According to people familiar with the deal, Michael Cohen arranged the hush money for Stormy Daniels, born Stephanie Clifford, as part of a non-disclosure agreement negotiated by her lawyer. Per people familiar with the deal, Trump and Clifford had an alleged sexual encounter after they met at a July 2006 celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. In a response to the Journal, Cohen did not deny the payments, instead saying, “President Trump once again vehemently denies any such occurrence as has Ms. Daniels.”

      Interesting that not one person has said this happened other than "anonymous sources".  The woman even said it didn't happen.  More "fake news".  Try posting something that doesn't have anonymous sources BrianBoru.

    • "Innocent until proven guilty" - is a joke

      The media are now publishing anonymous sources who claim to have heard someone ELSE talking about something Trump said as being proven fact.  (ABSURD!)

      In a similar vein, the premise of being "innocent until proven guilty" is a delusional joke.
      For example, earlier this month a college student's body was found and they just arrested a suspect.
      Well, forget about suspect.  The media have already convicted this guy.  That is a problem.  For instance, it is possible that the guy died by accident, or the guy died after the two of them had an argument and were fighting, etc.
      It is quite unfair and dangerous to imply someone's guilt before they go to trial.
      An extremely important thing to determine before implying guilt is to come up with a motive.  I have not seen any motive suggested in this case which leaves too many questions to be implying guilt.

      To convict someone of murder, they are required to provide means, motive, and opportunity.

      In the case I often refer to, no motive was ever given.  In particular, it is know that murder was meticulously planned out in advance.. however the man they convicted of the crime did not remove his money from the bank until days AFTER the murder, he didn't buy rubber gloves to clean up the crime scene until AFTER the murder, he didn't purchase a plane ticket until AFTER the murder and even then - he had no place to go.  I wrote over 60,000 pages about that case…

    • RE: #2 has a brilliant observation about Wolff's "Fire and Fury"..

      @Shami94:

      Ignoring your extremely bazaar fantasy that reporters record off the record interviews (other than as notes), the substance of Wolff's book in regard to the "President's" mental health and fitness for office is on the public record.

      His tweets are public record.

      His attempt to claim the the voice on the Billy Bush "grab them by the pussy" tape was not him and that is was digitally altered is on the public record.

      His claim the Obama bugged Trump Tower is on the public record.

      His claims about the crowd size at his inauguration is on the public record.

      His speech the day after his inauguration to the CIA is on the public record.

      I'm surprised that you are admitting that Michael Wolff's book is based upon previous publicly made statements instead of any interviews that Wolff pretended to make.

      By the way.. you misstated what Trump said about Obama.. you said "Obama bugged Trump".  What Trump actually said was "Obama WIRETAPPED Trump Tower" - which we now know to be true.  Bugging is one specific thing.. wiretapping involves any form of intercepting communications illicitly.  The definition of wiretapping expanded after the internet became a method of communication.  Now wiretapping includes both audio AND electronic surveillance.

      The crowd size comment was a rebound over the photos showing huge empty spaces - which were extremely misleading.  What Trump should have said was that the crowds were normal, not small.  Instead he said the crowds were huge, not small - which got him in trouble.  Also, it was raining.. which people tend to forget.  I recall watching video of villiage idiot George W Bush trying to put on a rain parka and failing - as Dick Cheney looked on in disbelief and laughter.

      His Billy Bush comments were taken out of context.  But then again.. so what?

      Despite it's massive expectations, that "Fire and Fury" book has turned out to be a nothing dud.

    • Trouble with Ye Olde Country…

      They used to say that the sun never set on the United Kingdom.
      The UK held 1/4 of the land on the planet at one time..
      Those days ended, but the UK was still thriving for a long time…
      Then things started to decline, but were still doing well...
      A load of bad governments led to a decline in the UK...
      The European Union didn't help Britain any.. and for some reason they still have not exited the EU.
      Despite all of that, Britain is still doing well...

      BUT.. things are not looking well, for one thing, the mayor of the capital city of England is a muslim.. who HATES Trump.
      Here's some news.. Trump will be president for 7 more years.  Every president has won re-election when the economy is doing well.
      Unfortunately, England keeps drifting away from the USA.  It's pretty sad when the Queen invites Trump to come visit.. but it is made clear that he is not welcome and it would cause riots.  Then Prince Larry Hewitt and his fiancé both dissed Trump several times, including publicly excluding Trump from their wedding.  While the royals have zero power or authority, the ARE supposed to be goodwill ambassadors.  I hardly think that burning the bridge crossing the pond (the Atlantic Ocean) is being a goodwill ambassador.  Just yesterday, Trump cancelled a planned trip to England because of the stupid Prime Minister.
      Can England afford to be at odds with the USA for 7 more years?  No they can't.  They still have to part ways with the European Union, which will be a big setback in the short term.  The only question left is will they be able to recover from that setback and get back on track to being successful again?  Not without some non-EU allies to cooperate with.  I can't think of who their allies might be anymore.  The political climate is making the sun set in the UK.

      I'm sure there are other people in the forum who know more about this than I do.  I'd like to see their perspectives.
