    • Poll: Trump's job approval numbers falling in Michigan

President Trump's job approval rating has fallen in Michigan, according to a new survey.

About six in 10 likely Michigan voters, 61 percent, gave Trump a negative job rating, according to the EPIC-MRA poll reported by the Detroit Free Press. That's up 5 points from a survey taken in February.

Just 12 percent of respondents gave the president a positive job rating, down from 18 percent in the February poll.

The poll also found that 55 percent of those in Michigan think the direction of the country has taken a "wrong turn." Only 31 percent of respondents think the country is heading in the right direction.

    • Poll: Most disapprove of ObamaCare repeal efforts

A majority of the public disapproves of congressional efforts to repeal and replace ObamaCare, according to a new poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

According to the survey released early Wednesday morning, 55 percent of the public has an unfavorable view of the House-passed American Health Care Act. The same percentage said they want the Senate to either make major changes to the House bill or not pass it all.

The Senate is currently weighing how to proceed, and whether to ignore the House and write its own bill from scratch. Committee staff are working on draft legislation to jumpstart discussions when senators return to Washington next week, but underlying issues about Medicaid, insurance coverage and Planned Parenthood have yet to be solved.

An analysis of the House legislation from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that 23 million people would lose insurance, and senators are struggling to make sure their legislation covers more. The CBO also predicted steep premium increases for older consumers and many people with pre-existing conditions.

    • Trump faces shrinking talent pool for new hires

President Trump faces serious challenges in restructuring a White House, from getting experienced Washington hands to work for him to whether his own premium for loyalty will block otherwise qualified candidates from working for him.

Republicans say the problems mean that Trump, an outsider who basically took over his party and is still viewed with suspicion in establishment circles, will face even more trouble in trying to refashion his team.

“The talent pool is shrinking, because who wants to sign up for crazy?” said Michael Steele, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC).

“Nobody wants to step into a situation where you’re flying by the seat of your pants and don’t know whether what you just said will hold up from one news cycle to the next,” he added. “Nobody is going to be lining up for positions with that much uncertainty.”

The abrupt resignation of White House communications director Michael Dubke, who handed in his papers before Trump’s foreign trip, highlights the president’s dilemma.

Dubke’s departure, which was only announced on Tuesday, comes amid hand-wringing by Republicans over the trajectory of the GOP president, who has seen his approval numbers sag.

    • House Republican rips Trump's budget proposal

GOP Rep. Leonard Lance (N.J.) denounced President Trump’s budget proposal Tuesday in front of hundreds of constituents at a town hall event.

“Regarding the budget document, I do not support it,” Lance told a packed auditorium with about 400 people in Cranford, N.J, Politico reported.

“The president proposes and Congress disposes,” he added.

The president’s $4.1 trillion proposed budget would significantly cut social programs such as food stamps, Medicaid and Social Security disability benefits.

Lance acknowledged that the budget plan is “merely a blueprint” and thus still in its early stages. He said the proposed cuts “are too significant,” Politico reported.

    • Men investigating Ivanka Trump brand in China arrested, missing

One man has been arrested and two others are missing after investigating working conditions at a Chinese company that produces Ivanka Trump-brand shoes, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

The three men were working with China Labor Watch, a New York-based nonprofit, which was reportedly planning to publish a report next month alleging low pay and excessive overtime use by the Chinese company.

According the Associated Press, Hua Haifeng was arrested and accused of illegal surveillance. China Labor Watch said it lost touch with the other two men, Li Zhao and Su Heng, over the weekend.

The three men were investigating Ganzhou Huajian International Shoe City Co.’s factory in Jiangxi province. Heng had been working undercover at the factory since April, China Labor Watch Director Li Qiang said. The parent company is known as Huajian Group.

    • Ex-Russia ambassador: 'The Russians are laughing' at U.S.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said Tuesday that “Russians are laughing” at America under President Trump.

“I think the Russians are laughing,” he said in an interview on MSNBC. “I think that’s right but they’re laughing at how easy it is. And how our president, unfortunately, is helping with their agenda.”

McFaul added that recent reports of conflict in NATO and the Group of 7 pleases Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Let’s just be clear that NATO and G7 – those are our clubs,” he said. “Those are clubs that we set up to advance our national security interests, to advance our prosperity.”

“And the result of this trip has been discord in both of those groups,” McFaul added of Trump’s first foreign trip as president last week. “That is music to Putin’s ears.”

    • RE: GOP Rep. Darryl Issa Flees To His Roof Rather Than Face Angry Constituents

      @aadam101:

      @Frederick:

      @Drwas:

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) stood on the roof of his district office in California on Tuesday as his protesting constituents gathered outside the building. Per Politico’s Jake Sherman, Issa was reportedly filming the protesters below as he looked on from his rooftop perch.

Mike Levin, Issa’s Democratic opponent in the 2018 congressional race, tweeted both the rooftop picture and a photo of Issa talking to the “several hundred” gathered in front of his office. Levin claimed Issa “came out for 5 minutes but refused to engage with those across the street.” It wasn’t clear whether this happened before or after Issa decided to retreat to the roof.

Let me get this straight.. you are criticizing a republican representative for being a coward and not standing up to a crowd of hooligans who were attacking him?
I suppose if they beat his brains in, you would be blaming the republican guy for attacking their shovel with his head?
I wonder.. do you have shit for brains?

Nobody was attacking him.  They were protesting. It's part of the first amendment.  You should look it up.  It seems Trumptards don't really know about it.  His job is to stand there and answer questions from the people who elected him.  That's a big part of his job.

    • Oregon Republican says they will consider hiring right-wing militia for security

Multnomah County GOP chair James Buchal, however, told the Guardian that recent street protests had prompted Portland Republicans to consider alternatives to “abandoning the public square”.

“I am sort of evolving to the point where I think that it is appropriate for Republicans to continue to go out there,” he said. “And if they need to have a security force protecting them, that’s an appropriate thing too.”

Asked if this meant Republicans making their own security arrangements rather than relying on city or state police, Buchal said: “Yeah. And there are these people arising, like the Oath Keepers and the Three Percenters.”

Asked if he was considering such groups as security providers, Buchal said: “Yeah. We’re thinking about that. Because there are now belligerent, unstable people who are convinced that Republicans are like Nazis.”

    • Germany brushes off US help on election cybersecurity

German intelligence has informed the United States that it is not looking for help staving off the same kind of election hacking attributed to Russia during the U.S. campaign, NBC News reported Tuesday.

The refusal is "a sign of the lack of trust that seems to be growing between Germany and the United States," NBC said.

The German election pitting conservative Prime Minister Angela Merkel against her party's center-left opposition is seen as a potential target for hacking efforts similar to those Russia used against the U.S. last year. The German opposition party, the Social Democrats, were thought to take a far gentler position against Russia's annexation of the Crimea in the past, though candidate Martin Schulz has warned against the lifting of sanctions.

    • Appeals court sides with transgender student in bathroom fight

The Chicago-based 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that a transgender student has the right to use the bathroom that corresponds with his gender identity under federal law.

In a unanimous opinion, the court upheld a lower district court order allowing Ashton Whitaker, a 17-year-old senior at Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wis., to use the boys’ bathroom despite the school's claim that Whitaker’s presence in the boys’ bathroom would invade the privacy rights of his male classmates.

In delivering the opinion of the court, Judge Ann Claire Williams said the school district failed to provide any evidence of how the preliminary injunction would harm the school or any of its students or parents.

“The harms identified by the School District are all speculative and based upon conjecture, whereas the harms to Ash are well‐documented and supported by the record,” she said.

    • Pence to make campaign push amid GOP concerns over Trump

Vice President Mike Pence is embarking on a cross-country summer campaign tour amid rising fears that the GOP, reeling from a barrage of Trump-fueled controversies, is headed for a midterm election disaster.

Pence is mapping out a schedule that will take him through several Midwestern battlegrounds and to traditionally conservative Southern states like Georgia, where an unexpectedly competitive June special-election runoff is alarming party strategists. The vice president will also attend a series of Republican Party events that will draw major donors and power brokers, where talk about 2018 is certain to be front and center.

The push comes at a time of growing consternation among senior Republicans who say the White House has given them little direction on midterm planning. Many complain that they do not even know who to contact about 2018 in an administration that has been consumed by chaos…

At the same time, the vice president’s increased electoral activity has stoked speculation that Pence is positioning himself for a post-Trump future in the party, something his advisers strenuously deny.

    • RUSSIA: Trump-Loving Grocery Mogul Places 'No Entry For Faggots' Signs In Stores

A chain of Russian food stores run by a devoutly religious nationalist businessman has placed signs in its windows saying gay customers will be refused entry.  “No entry for faggots,” read a wooden plate at the entrance to one of German Sterligov’s shops in central Moscow.

Sterligov, 50, became a millionaire by opening a mercantile exchange shortly before the Soviet Union’s demise. Later in his career he turned devoutly religious and retreated with his family to rural Russia to sell organic farm produce.

“Our planet is full of filth and sick humans,” Sterligov told Reuters Television at a country fair outside Moscow. “In front of our eyes is the historical experience of Sodom and Gomorrah when God burned these towns,” he said, referring to a passage from the Old Testament.

At the same fair, Sterligov addressed the crowd to praise Trump, declaring, “May God grant him good health.” Below is one of the signs.

    • Apple, Google and Facebook CEOs Urge Texas Gov. to Veto 'Bathroom Bill'

Business leaders representing Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, Salesforce and other companies have written to Texas Governor Greg Abbott urging him to veto an anti-transgender “bathroom bill.”

According to The Verge, the proposed law would require transgender students to use restrooms that match the gender listed on their birth certificates. Abbott has said he wants to pass the bill before the Texas legislature adjourns at the end of May.

In a May 27th letter, the executives said the “passage of any discriminatory legislation” in Texas would be “bad for our employees and bad for business.”

    • Trump Retweets Fox Story Citing Anon Source After Blasting Use Of Anon Sources

President Trump on Tuesday retweeted a Fox News report citing an anonymous source which pushes back on another article that White House aide Jared Kushner tried to establish backchannel communications with Moscow. Trump’s retweet comes just days after the president blasted the use of anonymous sources in news reports.

The Fox News report Trump shared is titled “Jared Kushner didn’t suggest Russian communications channel in meeting, source says.” It pushes back on a Washington Post report last week that said Kushner in December sought to establish a backchannel line of communication between the Trump transition team and Moscow during a meeting with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

    • Russia Investigation Expands To Include Trump’s Personal Attorney Michael Cohen

One of President Donald Trump’s closest confidants, his personal lawyer Michael Cohen, has now become a focus of the expanding Congressional investigation into Russian efforts to influence the 2016 campaign.

Cohen confirmed to ABC News that House and Senate investigators have asked him “to provide information and testimony” about any contacts he had with people connected to the Russian government, but he said he has turned down the invitation.

“I declined the invitation to participate as the request was poorly phrased, overly broad and not capable of being answered,” Cohen told ABC News in an email Tuesday.

After Cohen rejected the Congressional requests for cooperation, the Senate Select Intelligence Committee voted unanimously on Thursday to grant the chairman, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, and ranking Democrat, Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, blanket authority to issue subpoenas as they deem necessary.
