I wanted to write this because of how much I've been seeing the politics thread show up on the sites home page.
I consider myself to be much more liberal with my world views right now, but unlike a lot of people I try to focus on the views and ideas being discussed more than the people being discussed. I see people freaking the fuck out all the time about Trump, whether it's his supporters bashing liberals and calling them all sorts of names, or liberals making a spectacle about something he said or did which may or may not be offensive, depending on your own personal views. If people would start to focus more on the issues being debated and less on the people, things could improve faster and there would be more focus on things that matter. Who the fuck cares about the person, care about the ideals and beliefs being pushed forward because that actually affects peoples lives.
A big one I've noticed all over the place lately is the Kathy Griffith thing. She was just as wrong as everyone who was involved in the burning of Obama effigies back when he was elected. Only major difference is she's famous, so people made it a huge media sensation. Both are wrong, or if you support one of them then you gotta support both or you're a hypocrite.
Another hot topic is equality rights and social services, and who should have access to what. Something I see a lot is anti abortion discussions, while also seeing laws trying to get passed that are denying free healthcare supports to prevent the pregnancies in the first place. If a woman doesn't want to have a kid, can't afford a kid, but is forced to have it anyway.. that's just fucked up. There are enough kids in unfortunate situations already, why support any policies that are forcing people to have more? Why support any policy that takes control away from a women about their own body? It's their body to decide what to do with.
Sorry if this got a little long, I'm just trying to get people to stop jumping down each other's throats for petty shit and to start working towards actually improving things in both their own countries and globally where possible. I tried to avoid using political labels because It's not someone's political label that makes them a shitty person, it's their own beliefs. I know that sounds obvious but just look through the last few pages of posts on here and you'll see a lot of generalization and bashing against entire groups of people, and not against just the ideas and why they are good or bad. I know a lot of people are more in the middle, and don't believe in the "far left" or "far right" policies, so there's definitely lots of room for discussion about how to improve America or any other country that you may reside in. Calling all liberals stupid is never going to help fix anything, just like constant attacks on conservatives and/or Trump isn't going to help either. There's so much hate already, stop adding to this shit and find some common ground to work towards.
