    • RE: Which miniseries will win next year Emmy?

      @Minerboh80:

      @forgetjack:

      It is a miniseries…..

      No. It is an anthology series and some theories have stated that the seasons might share a small connection.

      Yeah, Ryan Murphy confirmed that they're all connected apparently.

      The miniseries/movie category in the Emmy's have been a little strange, especially lately; British TV series such as Luther and Sherlock have made their way into those categories in spite of their being ongoing shows that should be under Drama, and Fargo, like American Horror Story, is another "miniseries" that's getting a second season. Meanwhile, True Detective was pushed by HBO into Drama instead of miniseries in spite of being similar in approach to AHS and Fargo.

      Not all of it was accurate.
      The sanction mechanism Cooper suffered was all wrong. He should be spagghetified.

      Sorry, I should have been clear: in terms of what a black hole looks like, it's allegedly accurate.

      Love her. Florence Welch has such an amazing, ethereal voice.

    • RE: Who hates justin bieber?

      I don't really hate him but I wouldn't feel bad if he quit and was never heard of ever again. There are a lot of things that he does that are really bratty, though I think some of it can be attributed to him still growing up. That said, he needs to grow up quickly because his behavior is really irritating.

      @tigerrawr:

      Everything Matthew does, he does good. One of the best actors this generation. Especially the last 5 years or so. Damm.

      Oh and the black holes was fucking epic. The whole visual style was sooo good.  Not too flashy like Transformers, star trek,  and other space flicks.  The color palette was believable and recognizable.  The cinematography was amazing.

      For a while, it was really hard to remember that Matthew McConaughey is a great actor; he's really turned his career around (as you mentioned) in the last 5 years.

      Yeah, the black hole was amazing. It looked so beautiful and was really stunning. And it's scientifically accurate - the physicists working on the film conducted new research and believe it's what a black hole really looks like.

    • RE: Interstellar!

      Loved it. It felt really different from the rest of Nolan's films in that it was much more sentimental and emotional than his usually cerebral films, and it was pretty refreshing since he did it very well; the recent interviews with Jonathan Nolan saying that the film was originally going to be directed by Steven Spielberg made so much sense, but I'm glad that Chris Nolan did it since it turned out as great as it did.

      The cast was uniformly excellent, with not a single weak link. Matthew McConaughey was just amazing all throughout with that scene after the water planet being a huge stand out. Anne Hathaway did a great job as well; I loved how understated her plea to go to the other planet was, and her final scenes were tearjerkers. Jessica Chastain was great as the emotional centre of the film; her first appearance was really impactful, and so were her final scenes.

      Hans Zimmer's soundtrack was also a huge standout, and it felt really atypical for him as well since I think this is the first time he's used an organ as the primary instrument. It's really sweeping and emotional, and it's probably my favourite soundtrack for the year.

      The movie was so well shot as well. Everything was gorgeous.

      The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit trilogy feels like it was one movie that's been stretched too thin.

      Freak Show is giving me the same feeling as Coven, which is that it's interesting on paper, but it's just not working for me. I'm still watching it all the way to the end though.

      Probably Olive Kitteridge; it's excellent, and Frances McDormand and Richard Jenkins are excellent in it.

    • RE: American Horror Story. Which one is better?

      Asylum has been my favorite so far. It was focused (at least for the show) and utilised its cast really well.

      I'm not really sure if the stories being connected is a great idea, but I guess we'll wait and see what happens.

    • RE: Utopia - Best Series Ever

      The series is probably going to debut either in late 2015 or in 2016, so casting might still be too early. Glenn Close would be a fantastic choice; I wonder if they could get her.

      Well TV is still very much the writer's medium rather than the director's, so it's all really dependent on whether or not Gillian Flynn's approach is close enough to its source that it doesn't resemble Fincher's other work. That said, Fincher does approach his work with sufficient style that I think it'll be distinctive enough even if it doesn't look identical to the UK version; and his work in his filmography is pretty varied that I'm confident he can make it work.

      It still depresses me that we're not getting a series 3. So much lost potential by a channel that admitted it was an incredible show.

    • RE: Upcoming Mortal Kombat

      I'm very excited! It does look a lot gorier than the previous Mortal Kombat, but that's kind of expected at this point, and it's really cool how imaginative they are with doing horrible things to (in)human bodies. That said, the developers also did a fantastic job with the gameplay of the last one and did a good job on Injustice as well so I'm not that worried about how this one will play.

    • RE: Utopia - Best Series Ever

      The penultimate episode is really, really good. The final episode starts off a bit slow in comparison and then ends really well.

      Keeping Cristobal as the composer for the remake is something I've really been hoping for, but I'm also resigned to the idea that it probably won't happen. There's a huge chance that Fincher will rather bring in Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who have been his composers for his last three projects, than to bring Cristobal just to maintain consistency between the projects. That said, Reznor and Ross are very good composers as well, and do bring a similar off-beat sensibility in their compositions, but their style is notably more dour, which was something that Utopia's score was not for the most part.

    • RE: Game of Thrones

      I read the books first and I'm happy with the TV series, but I'm also the kind of person who doesn't really care too much about how an adaptation can be very different from the source.

    • RE: Utopia - Best Series Ever

      Yeah, it completely sucks that it won't be getting a third series, especially since the series creator planned up to a fourth. I was/am in love with the series; the over-saturation, gorgeous camera work, the dialogue, the really dark humour, the everyman-characters, the sheer paranoia-inducing premise, the incredible score by Cristobal Tapia de Veer…I could just keep raving on every aspect of the series. It hurts more since the 2nd series ended with a cliffhanger, and I was sure there'd be enough people dying for answers. Apparently not.

      It's funny, all the sci-fi blogs suddenly came out and exclaimed what a huge loss the series is now that it's done, but they didn't bother posting reviews or news about it while it was still on the air (except for denofgeek.com). Such a crying shame.

      I have hopes for the HBO adaptation. I was skeptical since what works in British TV doesn't always work when it's adapted to American TV and vice versa, but David Fincher's a great director, Gillian Flynn's a great writer, and HBO is HBO. It's going to be difficult not comparing the two works, but it's better that it lives on in some form than to not have it at all. That said, I do hope it keeps the over-saturation, since that's what made the UK series feel completely different from everything else on TV.
