Older equipment might pose an issue: I have a 2015-ish Sony "smart TV" with USB inputs. Sometimes it will play a video I've downloaded on this site, and sometimes not. I solve the problem with "Movavi Video Converter" that will convert virtually any format to any other format. I think it was about $50 US for a lifetime licence.

I have a custom setting in the software that uses codecs that I know my TV will accept. Sometimes the file size increases on conversion, which isn't a problem unless it becomes larger than 4GB which is the upper limit for a FAT32 file system. In that case, I use the same software to split the video into pieces.

I guess they did it VH1 style because so many people are familiar with the concept and the style.

I downloaded one. Didn't care for it. Sometimes the text was incredibly small, sometimes the background color of the popup box made reading the text difficult, and oft times the text is so damn small you can barely read it (Alas for us with less than perfect eyesight!) and sometimes the popup vanishes so quickly you have to rewind and freeze it, so as to read the thing. Occasionally the info provided was interesting, but most of the time not.

Not a fan, won't download anymore of these popup videos.

If you see duplicates please report them. You earn 50 points per duplicate if its deemed a real dupe when  the report is processed.

DUPLICATE files are not allowed and will be removed. You are expected to run a search for duplicates prior to submitting a torrent. Duplicates may be accepted when part of a themed collection. A file is considered a duplicate if an existing torrent has the same format and similar size (<10% difference) and has at least one seeder.

It's the timing that is so strange - as soon as I had the file freeleeched. It wasn't a duplicate, and for it to be DCMA'd within a few minutes after I freeleeched it would be an extraordinary coincidence. It was, literally, searchable one minute, then vanished the next. A well, this is life. Wish I could get my seedpoints back, but then again, it wasn't a lot of 'em.

Thanks for the info. It seems to be working. I would have thought that if the call went out to seed, that the torrent would switch from queued to active automatically. Now i know what to do next time.

When torrents do not meet the rules, the fastest way to resolve it is to hit the report button on those torrents and explain the problem. 🙂

Just looking, and I notice that I have the "42.0 beta update channel" version. In computer-ese, "beta" usually means "being tested," and thus is typically less stable/more buggy, yes? Perhaps i should re-install a slightly older version.

What I've described is the update mechanism between the site and the tracker, when a new torrent had been added, so the tracker starts tracking it: each 30 seconds

The update of new announcements received by the tracker from the torrent clients to the site is as well each 30 seconds (uploaded, downloaded, seeding, stopped, started).

However, the cycle time for an individual torrent in an individual torrent client is set to 30 minutes (that is the next update time you see counting down in a torrent client's torrent details view). This counter runs for each torrent & client on an individual schedule.

30 minutes announce interval is a quite standard time for trackers. Most I know use that interval, some longer (45 minutes or 60 minutes), even fewer shorter (15 minutes). It is a balance between server load&bandwidth and having up-to-date statistics on a site/tracker. Stopping a torrent leads to an immediate update of the tracker as does starting a torrent (and the 30 minutes interval countdown for the next update in the client).

I have no problem giving points when I've downloaded something I've enjoyed. I just don't want to give them if they DON'T go to anyone, but the seed just get spilled (:o). For instance, my first ever torrent here is now an 'orphan'. If someone gave bonus points at this stage, who would get them, if anyone.

And it is certainly very difficult to communicate with other members here, especially if they don't respond to comments. And if someone's privacy settings are high, then you can't send them a PM.

I'd prefer a system where you can send an unsolicited PM which the other person can read, ignore, delete, block, report or maybe even reply to.

I got great advice from NMD, which really helped. I think part of it was that I was confused by the Guide; the other was that the film's file had vanished (I don't recall deleting it) but I got that fixed up and everything seems okely-dokely.
