Torrent File Sizes
-
Some of the file sizes on here are un-necessarily huge. Far too big.
For those uploading, thanks for uploading and sharing your content, but please learn how to compress your files.File sizes over 30GB is ludicrous.
Not all of us benefit from superfast fiber internet connections, event then if we did, storing these files is another task.
Do people on here thing that this website should limit file sizes ?
What your thoughts on this.

I deleted your other thread on this topic.

@Titom I'm in general agreement with what you're saying. I do think, though, that it's important to distinguish between file size and torrent size:
I don't think there's any need for a single file to be larger than 30 GB. I often transfer files to a thumb drive to watch on my large screen television, and the most common format for these drives (called FAT32) won't permit files larger than 4 GB. I have software that can break a file into sequential bits, but breaking something into ten pieces is tedious.
As for a torrent containing a large number of video files, such as a sloppy collection called "My Favourite Bareback Films" that is 100 GB, I think it's risky for a downloader to select all of the files, only to get half-way through and have the torrent deleted from the system due to a DMCA request or perhaps just one clip be suspect of having an under-18 model. It would be prudent for downloaders to select only a few of the files on offer, and then when those are complete select a few more. This can help prevent the problem of having downloaded a lot of useless partial files.
Thank you for raising this interesting topic.

I don't mind huge torrents as long as they come with contact sheets for everything. There's no way in the world that I am interested in all the 2000 files from the Sean Cody collection. I can instead download the contact sheets and check which ones I want and go directly to them without the need to download 1TB worth of mysterious files.
If something is too big and you're unable to grab it it's unfortunate, but you are not entitled to object to people taking a file and uploading it as is. That's already a time consuming task, not everybody has the time and technical skills required to re-process a file aiming for a smaller size while retaining visual quality.
Suggesting that the site should limit file sizes, or torrent sizes, is just as reasonable as suggesting you to hire a better internet service.
After downloading, you are completely free to re-encode the file yourself, and if you want to benefit from the ability to seed it you only need to upload it to the site.

with a set of images whose names correspond to the videos, any sized torrent is fine. That way, the torrent acts as a "library" where people can download the images, pick the ones they like, and download the few videos they want.
Great concept, but rarely happens.
The images rarely correspond to the videos. -

I totally agree, and it's so easy to make contact sheets with the many free batch thumbnail generators available. Whenever I have a torrent with multiple video files, I always do this. I'm not proposing that the site the make this a rule, but I consider it a "best practice." I salute all uploaders (likely yourself among them) who do this.
I do think that downloaders should use caution in downloading all or some files from very large torrents if there's a possibility that the torrent will be deleted before one is finished downloading. This is low risk if all the contents are from individual studios that don't make DMCA complaints, but if it's a mixed bag of files from different studios, containing a file from a studio that is very DMCA-aggressive, there is the risk that the entire torrent will go away before downloading is complete...and one could be left with a lot of unusable material charged against their ratio calculation.

@eobox91103 I am not allowed to upload, which is a shame, because I have 23 terabytes of the finest gay porn there is. I keep less than 1% of my downloads. I look at a second or two to see if I will delete them.
About half of them are from other sites - and are not found on this site.
-
@lololulu19 I don't know why you can't upload, but it's a shame. It sounds like you would be able to add a lot of new material to the site.
-
@eobox91103 a lot of people got a 90 day ban for posting videos from a very popular studio that begins with an S. Ironically, that studio has gone WAY downhill since then, and now they mainly put out old videos re-packaged as being new. Many of their videos were never removed from the site, and virtually all their very rare new content still gets posted. BUT, even after the 90 days expired, the ban remained permanently. Nobody has told me I was banned permanently. I can create torrents with the sites QTM utility... BUT.. when the site goes through it's processing, the torrents fail during the backend process and never make it onto the site, not even in the "DEAD" section.

@lololulu19 This sounds quite odd, and far exceeds my technical knowledge of how the site works. Perhaps the help desk or a moderator could step in.
I think I know which studio you mean (I don't like to mention names in a public forum), and while I'm not a follower of their genre, I see very little of their material on the site. If gt.rent gets lots of takedown requests and doesn't want that material on the site, perhaps it should be added to the "forbidden" list, and/or a note to you asking not to upload it. (I note that I can find LOTS of their stuff on two other gay porn torrent sites I look at.)
I also note your comment about that studio going downhill. That seems very common, especially when studios change the kind of model or film they produce. For example, another studio starting with "S" was bought out about ten year ago, and their models changed from being collegiate twunks to 30-ish semi-hunks. That appeals to a different audience. And then there are those studios that have disappeared--I miss SEVP, perhaps because I come from that part of the world....

@lololulu19 Hey, I hope this doesn't count like a petition, but I consider sharing em could be a good idea.
There are some films I cannot find anywhere the internet nor with people I know like CockyBoys "Fuck Yeah Levi Karter", "The Devil In Angel Cruz", Randy Blue "I Love Dick", etc... so, If you got em, it would be great you could share em.
By my part, I own all those CockyBoys films: Revenge, King Of Hearts, Tie Me Up! Dick Me Down!, Insatiable, Lick It Good, Taylor Made, Take It To The Bank and others that cannot be found here (or internet in general) and If you guys consider necesary, just tell me and I am gonna be happy to upload them.
The only problem is that I can keep the torrent alive by a short time because technical reasons, but I share w you if you like, and wait you download it.
