Circumcision

We are having a boy… I am circumcised and I really wish I wasn't. Do we circumcise the baby? Or will other guys in america make fun of him?
-
Nope. Of 4 brothers, I am the only one uncircumcised (not born in a hospital). It'll be a top of conversation, followed by a shoulder shrug and a return to normal activities. No one made fun of me as a kid, and I was a wimp (think of a black nerd).
-
It seems like a simple choice to me.
You have a baby boy, just born, just about as perfect as he'll ever be, then some people think, "I know, we'll slice a piece off him for no good reason".
Except in very unusual medical circumstances, there's no good reason to circumcise a child. Even in those circumstances, look for credible alternatives to surgery, which should be a last resort.
If you're circumcised, you may be concerned you can't teach him to keep himself clean. It's as simple as getting him to wash behind the foreskin without using soap - there's no special technique to it. He should practice retracting the foreskin gently when he's old enough to understand to do it to help the foreskin develop gradually.
Simple as that. No huge complications with foreskins, and you're taking nothing from him. If later he chooses to be circumcised, he can go ahead and do it, having had the choice over his own body.

You may want to read this article called "Circumcision versus Lack of Circumcision" located at circinfo.net/summary.html. It has a lot of important information & statistics, when my son was born I decide to have him circumcised, but really the choice is between you, partner? and your doctor. Make sure you ask plenty of questions and know all the facts before deciding anything. There are risk in all surgeries, do not let anyone tell you anything different. I can tell you one thing for sure is that it is much more painful to get snipped as an adult than a child and a child will not remember the experience, as an adult you will never forget. :cry2:

Forget what your parents did to you, unless there is a medical reason for it the answer is NO. Nobody can justify child abuse even for religious reasons, it's about time parents stood up to the "powers that be and society norms" and told them to Fuck Off and leave my child alone. When your child is old enough let him or her decide, there is no harm in waiting in fact you can do more harm than good as the bit's being cut off aren't fully developed till a few years after puberty. You would soon be up in arms if after your first child society said you had to have your balls cut off or vagina sewn up, or if when you could no longer have children you were force to have a double mastectomy.
Your first job as a parent is to protect your child from harm until he is able to do it for himself, for most parents that day never arrives and they will protect their children till the day they die. You wouldn't get your child tattooed just because you have one and like them. You wouldn't get his appendix or tonsils removed, neither of which are needed and could cause issue later in life unless there was a medical reason. So why put a baby through something that could go wrong and ruin his life later just because it was done to you or because it's a "norm" in society.
Your second job is to love your child unconditionally, While the saying goes "you always hurt the ones you love" that doesn't include child abuse. It's illegal in some countries to punish a child by smacking them when they do something wrong (something which tho painful is gone within minutes), so how can anyone parent or not justify taking a knife to a perfect innocent baby to mutilate and scare them for life.
At the moment there seems to be a big issue going on about female circumcision making it illegal, prosecuting those who do it, why because it's seen as unnecessary, cruel, painful, etc. If it's such a big issue shouldn't we be fighting to prevent all none medical or personal choice (ie the person is over 18 and decides they want it done) circumcisions for both male and female children.

I seem to catch more flack for being circumcised and preferring it. However, I think it has given me a unique perception of the matter. I didn't get circumcised until I was 16 and it was completely by choice. I didn't like the way my penis looked. The final straw occurred when I started taking ballet. I had to take extra care of it because it was shoved in a very tight dancer belt for 5+ hours every day. It wasnt fun. In the end, I am happy with my decision.
I guess what I am trying to say is: Don't do it now. Let him decide later in life. And be sure to let him know that he will be perfect no matter what he chooses.
-
I believe in a persons right to choose so id say wait until he grows up and gives you his opinion.
-
Other peoples opinion doesn't matter. As long as you think that it's the right thing to do :). Also, some chicks dig circumcised men
-
I personally think your boy should have the say whether or not he wants it circumsized or not when he gets older
-
Personally, I don't have much of a preference between uncut or cut. I suppose because I am British, I slightly prefer uncircumcised.
However, I have no real beliefs on whether or not a child should be circumcised (or mutilated, as some with stronger beliefs might argue). I think it should be left to the parents or the child.
Just as long as you're not shaming me for being uncircumcised, I'm fine with whatever decisions people make.

We are having a boy… I am circumcised and I really wish I wasn't.
I think you just answered your own question. As an uncircumcised person in the US, I am so glad to be that way. I admit, I was incredibly self-conscious (read: ignorant. "Everyone but me is circumcised! I'm such a freak!") about it when I was younger, but I grew out of that entirely.
-
I guess the boy in question has already been circumcised (or not). I hope you left him intact, dear thread starter and that this bad habit dies out over the next decades.
Personally I dislike circumcisions more and more the older I get. There is normally no reason for it other than religious ones. And while I respect that to a certain amount I know that there is some growing resistence within those communities as well. Again: I hope it dies out.
A friend of mine has lost his foreskin for medical reasons and that's unavoidable.
I'm fully intact.
-
As a jew myself I always found this procedure to be extremely abusive to the baby.
-
do not circumcise the child.
It is certainly NOT your right to do non-reversible body modifications to another underage human being.
-
We are having a boy… I am circumcised and I really wish I wasn't. Do we circumcise the baby? Or will other guys in america make fun of him?
I really hope you did not get the kid cut. There's no need for it, and no he will not be teased.

Can we talk a little bit about the idea that the US have on foreskins??
I grew up in Europe and I have never encountered a circumcised guy until much later in my life, and that would be only because of phimosis or some other medical condition where circumcision was the only solution.
I found out some years ago that people in the US have this twisted idea that having a foreskin is dirty, unhygienic, or even dangerous. In other words, they believe that the NATURAL is WRONG. Seriously, why??- Foreskin is not dirty. Unless you are a dirty person yourself and forget to clean under it, that is.
- Having a foreskin doesn't make you a freak. Nature is not freaky.
- If you shame someone for being uncut you are a horrible person (same goes for shaming someone because they are cut).
- IT'S YOUR CHOICE HOW YOU ARE GONNA SPORT YOUR WILLY.
That said, don't give your son a circumcision (unless a medical reason demands it). Plus, as said above by many, he can always get the circumcision later in his life if he wishes to
-
I was circumcised while in highschool because of phimosis and the skin on my glans has much hardened and is less sensitive than it was. So i'm sorry i don't have that maximum shine and smoothness anymore
I never understood why is circumcision default medical procedure with newborns in the US. Can someone tell?
I understand in theocratic countries when it's done because of religious reasons, but US should be secular, or at least majorly christian, no?I vote against.

better not

I wish I got a choice in the matter. Don't do it. If he wants to do it when he gets older then he can.
-
This is a really tough issue.
I'm cut. My father wasn't. It was my father's choice to have me cut. As believe it or not, here in America, it's usually the fathers choice as to whether or not he wants his son cut or not.
Me personally, I like both cut and uncut dicks, but if I had a choice, I'd rather be cut. I'm glad that I was cut.
But here in America, even though more people are not cutting their male babies, it's still very common to. As there are more pros than cons to having a cut penis, than there is pros to cons to having an uncut penis.
Also some religions that are common in North America requires male babies to be circumcised.
The operation is very custom and it's very rare for anything to go wrong when the baby is just born and less of a hassle. He won't even remember it.
If a guy does want the operation when he is older, it's more risky and more expensive. So it's tough.
But other than that, an uncut penis, although it needs to be cleaned more often, is fine as well.
It's just many pros and cons to both.
So I can't make the decision for you, I just wanted to give you a better perspective.
