Like in the UK, Scotland still has "council house for life and beyond" where you can leave your welfare housing in your will.  England and Wales got rid of that (except those grandfathered in) about 5 years ago.  No idea about Northern Ireland.

Once you are in welfare housing, you could never be kicked out.  Your max rent is capped at 60% market value, but can't go up once you are in, regardless of how wealthy you become, ie winning the lottery or starting your own business that's worth more than £100m.

People in welfare housing believe that their home belongs to them in the same way that homeowners do, except welfare housing is at best low rent or free rentals.

Exactly. In a lot of these cases (if not ALL of them) these people were drug dealers who were shot in deals-gone-wrong or similar circumstances.

My dad's side of the family is deeply religious, and they don't hate anyone.  The same with my husband's mom.

My uncle is a youth minister, and he preaches that Jesus accepts everyone.

This is exactly what people are starting to do these days in Madrid: people get together at home to drink so that people don't spend money outside. Or people drink on the street (like drinking in a park) and then go to the clubs.
