I was a kid in the mid-late 90's. Back then, I was all about stuff like Korn and Deftones (they were both huge at the time). TBH, I can't stand the stuff now (I can tolerate the old Deftones stuff, but Korn just sounds like the product a bunch of dumb, white trash tweakers, because that's precisely what they were in those days).
The only band from back then that I still really love (love) today is Type O Negative, but they've always stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the "alt./numetal/groove metal/post-grunge/blah blah blah" bands that were de rigueur in the mid-to-late 90's and early 2000's.
I like some of the pre-numetal "grunge/alternative" from the late 80's and early 90's as well, but I think a lot of it sounds painfully dated and manufactured, and, TBH, I can't stand the cult of personality surrounding people like Cobain. Stuff like Melvins and Dinosaur Jr. is really good, though, I think.
