Eye Protection’? Porn Stars Say New California Regs Go Too Far
Adult film performers in California could soon be required to wear condoms and goggles to prevent exposure to bodily fluids, and producers would have to pay for medical visits and Hepatitis B treatments, under a new set of safety procedures recently released by the state Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board (Cal/OSHA).
The 21-page proposal, released by the Board on Thursday, outlines new standards for ensuring that porn performers remain safe from sexually transmitted diseases and bloodborne pathogens.
The proposal would require producers to provide condoms and other “barrier protection,” like protective eye gear, to adult film stars.
But the porn industry and its supporters say the new regulations go too far.
“These are regulations designed for medical settings, and are unworkable on an adult film set – or even a Hollywood film set,” Free Speech Coalition CEO Diane Duke said in a statement. “We’ve come to San Diego with ways to amend the regulations, with input from both performers and public health officials, in ways that protect adult film performers without stigmatizing and shutting down an entire industry.”
According to the Los Angeles Daily News, the new regulations are the result of a campaign by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to ensure safety on adult film sets. In 2009, AHF President Michael Weinstein wrote a letter to Cal/OSHA complaining that California porn production companies were refusing to provide condoms on all adult film sets in California, elevating the risk of disease transmission. To underscore his point, Weinstein mailed 60 DVDs of California-shot porn films that did not use condoms to the regulatory agency along with the letter.
In 2012, AHF and Weinstein were instrumental in the passage of Measure B, regulation that requires condom use on all adult films shot in Los Angeles County. Efforts to pass a statewide condom law failed in an Assembly committee last year, but the organization is already working on measure to be placed on the 2016 ballot.
Five years after he mailed his letter, Weinstein told the Daily News he is “pleased” with the agency’s proposal.
“Getting to this point is a necessary part of the process, and we’re pleased that this has been completed,” he told the paper. “The process is designed to give everybody a say. I think it was conducted fairly.”
But porn industry executives and performers say existing regulations are already adequate to ensure performer safety. Actors and actresses are already required to be tested for STDs every 14 days, and are not allowed to work until receiving a clear report.
“There is already a code of honor between performers [to get tested], because you could kill someone,” actress Anya Ivy told Breitbart News at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas earlier this year.
Still others say that increasingly tough regulations in California could force the estimated $7-13 billion adult film industry out of California and into states like Nevada and Florida, where safety standards are more relaxed.
“From a sustainability standpoint, the industry has to move to Las Vegas,” PornCareerBuilder.com’s Michael Wondercub told Breitbart News. “In general, California has higher taxes and a higher cost of living… This is a safe industry if you play by the rules and Nevada just has less regulations.”
However, in the proposal, Cal/OSHA said it is “unlikely” the porn industry will leave California, especially as states like Nevada consider tighter regulations of their own.
“The regulated community has a unique legal status nationally, resulting in no states suitable to the relocation of the industry,” the Board wrote. “Certain portions of the regulated community have threatened to leave the state; however, this is unlikely because the regulated conduct is illegal in every state except New Hampshire.”
In January, several porn stars told Breitbart that “performer choice” is paramount when dealing with mandatory condom laws and safety restrictions. Courtney Trouble, an actress and member of the Adult Performers Advocacy Committee, said “moving is not a long-term solution” for the porn industry.
“Performers should be able to make their own choices,” Trouble said of mandatory condom laws being considered in Nevada.
“I’m neither for nor against [the laws], so long as they’re not infringing on the performers’ choice,” added Samantha Ryder, marketing director for Mindgeek, the largest owner and operator of online pornography in the world. “The majority prefer no condoms. We just want to make sure the girls are happy.”
Peter Melton, a spokesman for the Department of Industrial Relations, of which Cal/OSHA is a part, told the Daily News that the Board received about two dozen comments from both supporters and critics of the proposed regulations.
The Board will reportedly review the comments and determine whether more input is needed before finalizing new rules no later than March 2016.

RE: Upload amount not updating
I have left my downloads seeding and per bit torrent I have uploaded close to 17GB but my UL amount on this page has been stuck at 14.84 for days and isn't refreshing. This is obviously not allowing my ratio to improve. All of the files in my bit torrent are from this site so all the uploaded data should be counted here- what do I do?
What you see in your client is cumulative, since you have started seeding the torrent. If no one is connected to you as a leecher for the past several days for the torrents then you have not been uploading. From the numbers that is what it looks like has happened.

Review…The Handyman's Reality
The Handyman's Reality
by Nick PoffThe Handyman's Reality is a relief to read. The marketplace is flooded with gay fiction that focuses on the erotic aspects of relationships, depicting a great deal of detailed sex. If it isn't a lot of sex, gay novels have hate crimes against gays, serial killers out to get the gay population, or long, drawn-out tragedies of men dying of AIDS. While much gay fiction in these categories is still entertaining and well-written, I enjoyed that "The Handyman's Reality" is a simpler story of two gay men building a life together. By making the story domestic rather than sensational, Poff shows himself capable of more mature writing than many of his fellow writers.
The Handyman's Reality is the sequel to The Handyman's Dream. I have not read the first book, but I had no trouble following the second. Apparently, in the first book, Ed and Rick met and fell in love. The second book begins when they have decided to move in together and make a commitment to live like a married couple, sealed by Ed receiving a ring from Rick. The story follows the development of their relationship and each man encouraging the other to follow his dreams–these dreams include their becoming the caretakers of Mrs. Penfield's Victorian home with the understanding they will one day inherit it, and Rick's desire to leave his job as a mailman and become a real estate broker.
No major dramas or conflicts arise. The characters' major concerns are how people in their small Indiana town, especially Ed's handyman clients, will react to learning Ed and Rick are a gay couple, and whether Ed and Rick will be able to get along and make their relationship last. These issues are dealt with realistically and the results are far from extreme or melodramatic. I found the absence of real tension in the book surprising at first, but as I read on, I settled into following the daily lives of Ed and Rick and just enjoying their little triumphs and their tenderness for each other.
I think the attention on sex in gay fiction is a turn-off for many readers who will find this book a real relief. Ed and Rick are depicted as being tender and loving to one another, but the author wisely shuts the door during the sex scenes, simply allowing us to imagine them. The book is moving in the love the characters show each other, and the few times they have disagreements, the relationship issues are worked out in a realistic manner. I found it a bit annoying that Rick could never smile but instead constantly had "his warm and tender special" spread across his face. I also found it a bit much to imagine two grown men calling each other "baby." Despite a little sappiness, however, the relationship was depicted realistically, and it was clear Rick and Ed loved each other, rather than being in the relationship solely due to physical attraction.
I am curious why Nick Poff set the novel in 1981 instead of the current day. He did a remarkable job of recalling that year, filling the book with references to popular songs and world events. Perhaps he wanted the tale set prior to the AIDS epidemic. Rumors of a gay flu or disease are mentioned briefly in the book, but AIDS never becomes an issue for the characters. The book really works as an argument that two men can have a meaningful relationship together.
The book is not perfect; some readers will find the lack of plot makes it a bit slow and sometimes the dialogue goes on a little long. However, I think "The Handyman's Reality" is a remarkable achievement in the field of gay literature because of its attention to realism rather than sensationalism and gay fantasy. The book's domesticity is a step-forward for the genre. I would not be surprised if someday Nick Poff's books are ranked as gay classics beside E.M. Forster's "Maurice" and Michael Cunningham's "A Home at the End of the World." I hope Poff continues to write serious gay literature that is romantic and hopeful.

RE: Religion that didn't against homosexual
Many denominations of Christianity are open and affirming of the LGBT. MCC is basicly a gay church. You can also check out Anglicans, UCC, Unitarians, Quakers, Lutherans and others. Some of these latter that I have mentioned are pro gay, some are not, you have to look at the individual congregation one by one.
Buddhism, Wicca and others are pro - gay
There is a difference between religion and how people practice their religion. Is there any "old world" religion that when it was written proclaimed been gay was okay, I highly doubt it. But then you could always start your own book.
