Pluto

A young Kansas farmer, working a telescope by feel in the dark of a wooden dome on a frozen Arizona mesa in 1930, discovered Pluto, the ninth planet of our Solar System. Clyde W. Tombaugh, who had taught himself to be an astronomer, became the first 20th century man to discover a planet when he found Pluto.

Pluto's moon Charon was discovered in 1978.

Then, in 1987, NASA scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California, reported observations that showed Pluto has a substantial atmosphere.

Most distant, least understood. Pluto – most distant, smallest and least understood of the Sun's known planets -- recently has been the closest that mysterious body has come to Earth since 1740. As it swung within 2.8 billion miles, astronomers tried their best to unlock some of its secrets.

Pluto is 3.6 billion miles from the Sun. With a diameter of only 1,370 miles, Pluto is the smallest planet, smaller even than Earth's airless Moon. Pluto is so far away and so small that little was learned about it for decades.

Pluto demoted. For decades, we counted Pluto among the nine largest bodies of the Solar System: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

However, in 2006, the International Astronomical Union, for the first time, created a scientific definition for the word planet and thereby demoted the former major planet Pluto to the lesser status of dwarf planet. It was a sad moment for many astronomers.

At the same time, it promoted the distant, deep-space object Eris and the big asteroid Ceres to dwarf planet. The IAU's action made Eris the largest known dwarf planet. It's larger than Pluto.

Sex Toy In Luggage Gets Man In Trouble

Mardin Azad Amin found himself in a tight squeeze last week when security at O’Hare Airport discovered a suspicious-looking object in his luggage.
So Amin, 29, handled the delicate situation this way: He told security the object was a bomb, Cook County prosecutors said.

The security guard then asked Amin to repeat what he’d said to a supervisor. This time, Amin was chuckling as he spoke, prosecutors said.

In fact, Amin was trying to disguise the fact that the black object — resembling a grenade — was a component for a penis pump.

All the same, Amin was charged with felony disorderly conduct and faces up to three years in prison if convicted, said Andrew Conklin, a spokesman with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Amin is due in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing, Conklin said.

Amin eventually told investigators he’d lied about the object’s true use because his mother was standing nearby when the object was discovered and he didn’t want her to know about it, Cook County assistant state’s attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during a bond hearing last week.

The incident occurred Aug. 16 as Amin was set to catch a flight to Turkey, Scaduto said.

Amin has no known criminal history, Scaduto said.

Charges dropped in O'Hare penis pump scare

Mardin Amin's mother is probably still wondering why people made such a big fuss over a silly pump: the kind used to inflate soccer balls and the like.

An embarrassed Amin told his mother it was that type of device – not, in actuality, a penis pump -- that got him in trouble with O'Hare Airport security in August and prevented him from boarding an international flight with her.

But at least now the embarrassment and worry of having to appear in criminal court is over. Cook County prosecutors agreed Wednesday to drop a felony disorderly conduct charge against the Iraqi man, who faced up to three years in prison if convicted.

"You don't believe it -- I was dreaming about this court and what was going to happen," said Amin, wearing a new, $250 blue suit he bought just for his date at the 26th and California courthouse. "It's like a nightmare."

Amin's odd brush with the law began Aug. 16, when the 29-year-old, his two children and his mother were going through O'Hare security on a trip to Iraq. A security guard plucked a small, black rubber object from Amin's hand luggage, and asked him about it. Unwilling to openly say the words "penis pump" while his mother stood near, Amin twice whispered something that, according to Amin, the guard misinterpreted as "bomb."

Amin, who lives in Skokie, was promptly arrested and charged with a felony.

His attorney, Eileen M. O'Neill, said this week common sense demanded the Cook County state's attorney's office drop the charge.

"Right from the get-go, it made no sense that a guy who has worked as a translator for [the U.S.] Army in Iraq wouldn't know the consequences of saying, 'I have a bomb,' " O'Neill said.

John Gorman, a spokesman for the state's attorney's office, said the charges were dropped because the U.S. Transportation and Security Administration sent Amin a letter saying they only wished to issue a warning.

"Because the TSA was our victim and they didn't wish to pursue [the case], we dropped the charges," Gorman said.

A beaming Amin said he will now travel sans penis pump.

"Hell no," he said. "That pump give me a lot of trouble."

Russian gay men perform oral sex in street

Two men drew applause from residents of Ekaterinburg in Russia’s Urals as they undressed in the street, kissed in front of the gathering crowd and finally performed oral sex on each other.

On Monday, two apparently drunk men stopped on the central street of the biggest Urals city and started dancing. While dancing, the couple stroked each other lovingly, gradually undressing and kissing passionately, the Ura.ru website reports.

People who gathered around the couple reacted quite positively, took photographs, applauded and recorded them on video. Nobody bothered to call the police or protest.

The show concluded by one of the men giving the other a blow job, after that the two promptly left and the audience strode off too.

The police said they had not received a single alarm call.

“Such actions are classified as an administrative offence and are definitely punishable,” a spokesman for the law-enforcement agencies said.

“Naturally, had we received an alarm, our officers would have immediately put an end to the incident.”
