The New Picture Browser - Feedback
-
A new "Browse" by pictures beta version got public tonight (UTC). Please feel invited to give here your feedback. Thank you in advance for any positive, critical and constructive voices.
[box title=History and Purpose]
History
The idea of the picture browser grew from the members feedback about improving the descriptions, where many members said to use the pictures rather than the descriptions to decide to download a torrent. As a first result of that feedback, the "Browse" and "Search" result list pages were amended to show "tooltip" tumbnail previews when hover with the mouse over. As a result, some members were started to speak about browsing pictures when going through the torrent list.
Another aspect are the complains about torrents being not downloaded after having completed the download, thus not generating upload. Indeed with some hundreds new torrents daily, many torrents get out of view back many pages already after a day and the download concentrates very much on the newest torrents on the first pages, where no torrent stays for long.
There is as well a certain inspiration from picture hosting sites blogs like seen on tumblr or the picture search results on Google picture search.
Purpose
The picture browser is meant as an alternative approach to find torrents, not to replace the "Search" result list list, by scrolling through randomly presented pictures, get attracted by one and look to the torrent it belongs. This way it is hoped members will discover torrents, studios or models they would otherwise have ignored.
It is not meant to search for any specific content (e.g. by date, studio, titles or models). It relies on the pure attraction (or distraction to scroll over) of the pictures.[/box]It was decided to go live with an early version, after only a few days of internal testing in order to gather quickly a wide feedback from the members for further improvements and to test it under real usage server load.
Therefore the desired feedback should not be "It sucks" or "Wonderful new toy", but providing arguments why. For example in describing what doesn't work well, ideas for better functions, etc …

a option to add a next page after loading so many images either a hard set limit or a profile option that you can set your own limit
the page just goes for ever takes a crap ton of memory and page slows down after about 600megs used at 750 it was unusable -
I was kind of surprised when I clicked the "browse" button and saw the picture browser (I hadn't read the recent news links first) I am glad that the option is still available to browse by links and descriptions under the "search" option. I am sure it will just take some getting used to for the new picture browser, but it seems that there are a lot of pictures for the same movie in the list without any real separation for each movie that has the picture links. Maybe if there were a clearer division between the pictures for each movie being represented it would look a little less jumbled and confusing. Still love this site guys either way!

Tried the picture for a bit. Didn't like it as too much to load. Maybe have in option in user settings to switch between the two?

Sorry but it's just horrible. Worst choice ever guys. Go back to the older page. Cheers.

Not good unfortunately, its just a flood of images without any structure at all, its just a screen of jpegs.
Would much prefer the original format only because it needs no explanation, instruction or figuring out.
Understanding the 'search' tab takes you back to the original format but without the default options ticked, can this be fixed?
Thanks

Joker, if you claim it's so good, explain to us how it's supposed to be useful?
Right now it's a random sea of images that is NOT following our category choices, with a random number of pictures per torrent.
And it's slow as pouring molasses at the North Pole.If you want to improve it,
- ONE PIC PER TORRENT
- include the torrent name at the very least
- FOLLOW our category preferences. Mine is showing about 50% straight or bi porn and I have that turned off in my profile settings, so this is NOT working right now.
Sorry, guys, I can tell somebody put a lot of work into it, but right now it is absolutely useless in terms of finding anything I want to watch. Thumbnails are important, but without knowing any other information about the video (category, tags, even title) it's just not a useful tool.
-
And several of you guys keep saying we can have it the old way under Search.
This is not true, Search does not remember my category preferences. -
Hi Guys,
I can understand the logic of making 'Browse' and 'Search' different - I never could understand why they were basically the same.
The only problem I have is that in the Search page, you can not set default categories, as you could in the old Browse.
Popper said in the chat window a couple of hours ago that you could set default categories in your profile. I have just checked, and there are only default categories for Browse. I did check to see if they applied to both Browse and Search, but they don't. Neither are any selections you make in the categories in the Search window remembered between visits. Is there any chance this could be fixed?
Thanks for all your work!! -

it was programmed with the random option set as default. this shows basically just 1 pic per torrent.
before putting it live i just added (to quick) the option to show it by date of uploads… this can be enhanced. can you please give this a little time as it grews on feedback and ideas. you need more patiencei just forgot to add those str8 and bi filters.. which should work now. and the search button now has the same function as the old browse function before. hope that helps to be less confusing

I wonder if it would be possible to set the search feature like the old browse feature where it will only show the catigories that are chosen in a member's preferences.

it is exactly like this now. your pre-selected categories work on both, the new browse with thumbnails or in the old browse (now search)

i guess a button to clear the browser and continue loading would work..give it some time
-
now it appears a black "Clear browser" on the left bottom of the page when you scroll.. you can remove all pics and continue browsing to save memory and so browsers from collapse :blind:
-
Too much going on, too much clutter and repeated pics, agreeing with adventurous, keep it one or two large pics and the name of the torrent and organized please…

The First image I clicked on took me to the video, but the comments state that none of the 3 images are anything to do with the video. Had I known the comments I wouldn't have bothered clicking the images. Is this going to be monitored or some option to exclude these videos with misleading images?
I agree with a previous comment that the number of images needs to be limited, and I think making them display at a universal size would make the overall outlay more uniform and easier to follow. Thumbnail sheets are useless, these are often too small to appreciate images at the best of times but on this it's just a waste of space (memory)
I view the old list and go by the titles first, then check the images (hover over so I see all related images at 1 go) along with the description and comments. The image page doesn't let you know where one lots finishes and the next starts, so you could think something is in a torrent when it's not unless you check every image.
The overall concept is nice, but still needs a lot of work I think, so WELL DONE, but keep improving it.
I do hope that the original will not be removed, as for now I don't see me switching.

I don't want to browse by image. Seeing titles is better.
-
dont worry guys, it was not intended to have this new browse way as a replacement - more like a new way of browsing beside the regular way
