I've destroyed my ratio
-
I'm not sure if there are other posts all asking/saying the same thing, but i have got myself into a position where my download rights are taken and i need to get back to 0.8 (currently on 0.774). i'm seeding freeleech torrents like crazy and its still going to take time.
so i was thinking if this thread could be used where experienced members offer guidance and advice on how to build their ratio fast and maintain its health in a simple instructional way. i dont really have a clue what i'm doing so some of the advice ive seen goes over my head.
ultimately i just hope this can help not only myself but other people too.

I think the quickest way to dig yourself out of ratio jail is to make a financial contribution to the site (see https://www.gaytor.rent/donate.php for the details on this). You can do the math to see how much upload credit you need to get above the 0.8 penalty line. You also get the satisfaction of helping to keep this site operating: computers, software, and bandwidth aren't free.
When you do get download rights back, there are a few things that can help your ratio:
A good way to increase ratio is to download only a few files from a new, large torrent--maybe 10% or less of the content. Those will often download quickly, and then the tracker system will hook you up (!) with other users who are looking for that material. The results can be astounding: here's a snip from my uTorrent client showing five torrents that I've done this way:
Even if you have a ratio warning, grabbing 5% of a new fan site collection will pay off for you even if you don't want the content. For example, on that one at the bottom of the list I only selected 5% of the content, but uploaded nearly 66 times that content. The only drawback here is that a torrent from which you haven't downloaded all of the content will count against your number of available download slots...so depending on how many slots you have, this could be an issue.Keep your computer on all the time, with the torrent client running. I rarely turn my computer off, because on/off cycling puts a lot of wear on the machine.
And finally, try uploading some of your own material if it isn't already here. If you downloaded something from another site, or from here a few years ago and it's gone dead, uploading it will usually give you 2-3 times the file size in upload volume--sometimes much more. I think you can still upload new material even if your download rights are gone, but a moderator might want to weigh in on this if I'm wrong.
Good luck and best wishes!

Here's what I do to maintain my healthy ratio (currently at 5.070):
- Make sure you have at least 1 torrent seeding 24/7 even if it's not uploading anything, because you gain 0.5 seed bonus points for every hour the system registers you as a seeder. It's not much, but it slowly builds up over time.
- Keep a healthy stack of seed bonus points on the side so you can use them to buy upload GB's if your ratio ever drops too low.
- Ideally you want more to have more torrents seeding all the time. How many depends on your available disk space, upload bandwidth etc. I would target 20-100 for most users.
- Prefer seeding larger torrents if you have the disk space for it, so your torrent client doesn't get bogged down with seeding hundreds of small ones. A single downloader for a 300GB torrent requires the equivalent of 600 downloaders for 500MB torrents. They may be fewer and further between but they more than make up for it in sheer bandwidth.
On the other hand, smaller torrents tend to get higher ratios (since they get downloaded more often), so they can be preferable if you are trying to get the most upload bandwidth out of limited diskspace (or limited download capacity). - Search for freeleech torrents periodically (every day if you can). Sort them by freeleech start time. Your prime targets are the ones with the most recent freeleech start time, as those will not have a lot of seeders yet and most of the interested downloaders have yet to come across them.
- After a suitable torrent has finished downloading, leave it seeding for a few weeks/months. Evaluate your seeding torrents every few weeks/months. Look at their ratios and total upload bandwidth relative to the time they were added to your torrent client. Keep the good ones, remove the bad ones to avoid bogging down your torrent client.
- Do not change which torrents you are seeding often. Stick with the ones that worked even if they haven't seen any traffic recently. Most torrents automatically settle down to a small number of seeders over time. You want to pick your horses and stick with them (rather than constantly dropping them and finding new ones) for two reasons:
1: It benefits you to become one of those few consistent seeders for a given torrent, even if it's not very active anymore. Other seeders will jump ship over time, so when a downloader does come by you will be able to provide a significant amount of the bandwidth (rather than just 1-2% on a more active torrent).
2: It benefits the ecosystem and avoids torrents dying, which benefits us all. We can't all seed 10k+ torrents. Each of us is technically forced to pick a handful to seed, so switching around all the time just causes interference with other seeders. - In a crunch, you can always recommence seeding on a torrent you've already deleted from your client (so long as you still have the files intact). You can redownload the .torrent file if necessary, then pause it immediately, move your existing files into place, and choose "recheck files" in your torrent client to get it back up to 100% right away and go back to seeding.
I hope that helps.

And just to reiterate, because I can't stress this enough: ratio doesn't matter, bandwidth is what matters (raw GB's).
A 1GB torrent with a ratio of 50.0 means you've gained 49GB.
A 300GB torrent with a ratio of 3.0 means you've gained 600GB.Sometimes size does matter, because that's what determines how much you can download. The same is true for global ratio. For example my ratio may be 5.070 but that's with 28.63 TB up / 5.65 TB down, which means I can download 30.15 TB before reaching my minimum ratio. This means I'm much better off than someone with an identical 5.070 ratio but with 253.5 GB up / 50 GB down, who can only download ~257.9 GB before reaching their minimum ratio.

Get out of the house. Less porn, more gym & real life.
-
Only download freeleeches. I almost never view the current uploads. Literally never. Only freeleech.
-
Find out about "port forwarding". It makes your computer more likely to be chosen for upload.
The problem is, most VPN do not support it. So you must either
- find VPN that does
- run sometimes without VPN (ugh, bad idea)
- forget about port forwarding
- Build up your bonus points and, when you specially want something that is not being freeleeched, you make it freeleech yourself. thus you download it for free, plus, you are "early" in its freeleech cycle & more likely to re-upload.

Yep, I recently accidentaly noticed the same thing when I downloaded only a few videos of the latino torrents from streaming websites here.
