Have all the good uploaders gone?
-
It seems in recent months that the only users uploading are those trying to boost their ratio with packs of recycled content, re-encodes of previously uploaded videos, and low quality junk ripped from free streaming sites and cam sites. Compared to other gay torrent sites there is a crazy amount of daily uploads here, but it's very much a case of quantity over quality, and there seems to be little to no quality control when it comes to what users can upload.
I stopped uploading here a while ago because I couldn't find anything worth downloading and I wonder if that's the experience of other users. -
@drekkin There are a few uploaders providing recent material from quality sites here - sometimes before other sites. But they are very much buried among posts like you describe.

God, I couldn't agree more!
There's a series of uploads on here titled <country> Twinks and Amateurs <month>" and it drives me up the wall. There are occasionally some OK files in them, but whoever is putting them together is padding them with several GBs of "Extras" which are normally just poor quality rips of full films already on the site.
It's not an isolated case either. I downloaded an OF rip that contained multiple duplicates and endless 3-second long clips of someone brushing their teeth.
I loved this site a few years ago, but the overall standard of uploads is becoming shocking. People reupload huge collections of files, perhaps adding a couple of pictures just to change the overall size of the download and it gets accepted. Proper titles, descriptions and pictures are a thing of the past, and the system actively encourage people to upload fake pics to other people's torrents with the promise of extra seedpoints.
There's good stuff here, and I don't have any intention of turning my back on the site, but I wish somebody could find a way of actively improving things, because I can guarantee I'll never donate while things remain the way they are.

I was a very good uploader.. but my upload rights were revoked for 90 days over a DMCA dispute that I was right about, but being right does not matter. I have uploaded a couple of small gems since then, but had great difficulty doing so.
HOWEVER, I must admit, that even with the unnecessary removal of a massive number of videos on this site, this site is performing better than ever, and the content is excellent. One problem many years ago with this site is that it was flooded with a massive amount of very low quality crap.. so much crap that it took ages to find any good stuff. That is not the case anymore, and it is very easy to find the good stuff now. The one downer is that not only did Staxus have most of their online content removed, they also have cut WAY back on their production of new content. I suspect that their idea was to keep selling their old videos, instead of making new ones - and have found out that their idea was a disaster to their profits. For instance.. someone is unlikely to purchase a video unless they know if the actors in it are worthy of spending money on. Once the downloader sees that actor that is fantastic, THEN they sometimes purchase all the videos featuring that actor. If they don't know about that actor before making a purchase, they probably never will know.

I've been on the site since 2014 and can honestly say it has never been as bad as it is now, and it seems to be getting worse by the day, and the moderators seem to have given up trying to enforce the rules. Just a skim down the first few pages of torrents and there are numerous uploads without proper titles, without descriptions, and with just one generic preview image. Particular offenders seem to be the lazy OF rip uploaders who can't be bothered to provide any basic information like when the rip is from, and the "complete collection" uploaders who have really just downloaded all the titles by one actor that they could find on this site (in different formats and resolutions) and then bundled them into one torrent without crediting the original uploaders. I won't even mention the re-encodersPorn studios have cut down on the amount of content they are producing mainly because the traditional porn industry is in terminal decline (hastened by Covid) because its methods of delivering content to consumers are outdated and they haven't worked out how to keep control of the money in the "all you can eat" content world that we are living in. Porn has always embraced new technology like VHS, DVD, online distribution, and high def, but only when it meant they could make more money. Like the music and movie industries they will blame and hunt down the pirates, instead of seeing that if they offer the consumer a legal, user friendly and affordable platform, with the content they want, then they will make the pirates unnecessary. Until then the torrent sites are providing a service that the porn studios are not. That said, the law is always on the side of the content creator and nobody here should be under any illusions otherwise.

@drekkin new user here, trying my hand at uploading. Fingers crossed that I can contribute some good content and hoping that others won't download and combine into bigger torrents. My hope is that if I keep the size down people will be more apt to download.
Although I've seen a few folks share just one small mp4 file that isn't that high of quality and that seems a bit annoying.

I just spotted this pair of uploads and needed to vent:

and

These are prime examples of the types of uploads that are causing users to trash their ratios, and they are most likely being uploaded by users who need to repair their own ratios. In a few days there will be over 1000 new uploads pushing these two right off the first few pages of uploads and nobody will ever find them because they have no terms in the title or the description that users generally search for (predominantly model names). The poor unfortunates who download torrents like these are seeding them in vain because they will only attract downloaders for the first few days and then just sit with a whole load of seeders and no traffic.
I know this isn't a "for profit" enterprise but the site only functions well as long as it has a content and productive user base, and I'm at a complete loss to understand the logic behind allowing uploads on the site that ultimately cause a negative user experience. It's like self-sabotage.
-
@drekkin I absolutely agree, and I never download torrents like this.
Did you report them? I can't imagine they don't violate at least one rule... -
@tnar There are numerous violations in just the "Collections" rule category alone, not to mention the lack of a description of the contents or a proper title. I reported both of these torrents as soon as I saw them, but it seems futile. I'm guessing from experience that the current moderators weren't around when the rules were originally put in place and are unaware of the reasons why these rules are in place. It can be difficult to understand and enforce a rule if you don't understand the reasons for its existence. That's when you go down the road of applying the letter of the rule, or your own interpretation of the rule, rather than the intention of the rule, and from website rules to the US Constitution, that's a recipe for disaster.

@drekkin I share your frustration. While I'd like to always thank people for sharing their content, some torrents are simply garbage. I wish people would apply some sort of "golden rule" to their uploads...meaning "only upload a torrent with content/description/images/etc. that you would want to download yourself." I don't see why anyone would want to download a 50 GB torrent called "my favourite porn" with 20 cryptically named files and one or two pictures (that aren't necessarily related to any of the files). Surprisingly, though, there are people who download stuff like that.
I don't think the solution is to sanction uploaders of garbage torrents, but perhaps there's a way of rewarding uploaders of really good ones. Some torrents are clearly the result of much care by their uploaders, with clear description of the content, including thumbnail pages for each video file (and that's very easy to do). It would be nice to have a reward for these superstar uploaders. Perhaps more use of the "thank you" button is enough.

It's very simple. For example - If I liked the picture, I'll take it no matter how much GB it has.

@eobox91103 I agree with introducing some kind of system that rewards good uploaders, which would allow them to build up a kind of reputation score that will be displayed on their uploads. Perhaps new uploaders should be restricted to uploads below a certain size, or to a certain number per day, until they have built up their reputation to a particular level.
I know in the past that users couldn't access the former DVD category until they reached power user status. This was in order to protect new users from overzealously downloading large files that would damage their ratio to the point where it couldn't be rescued. This was back in the days when DVDs were by far the largest files you could download here. it also meant that new users couldn't upload in that category either, It seems that when this rule was abolished the reason why it was originally put in place was forgotten.
