I was having a discussion with someone about the rationale for engaging in gay sex.
I pointed out that with gay sex, you are not risking having an unplanned, unwanted baby, or trip to an abortion clinic.

The person I was chatting with responded with "Well, with gay sex you are risking AIDS". At first, I thought to myself that he had a point.. but then.. I realized.. his point was nonsense. You get AIDS by having sex with women too. In fact, it seems the way many if not most people got AIDS was not from sex, but by sharing dirty needles.

My question is.. Is sex with women any less of a risk of AIDS than sex with men?

And.. let's not forget that women are like incubators for a plethora of STDs.

@lololulu19 Well, it depends, to say straight sex gets no AIDS is just dumb. But according to the AIDS website the easier ways, besides needles, is through Vaginal or Anal sex, Anal being the riskier one.

So if you assume gay men tend to have more sex, and specially more anal sex, then it might be true that it's easier for gay men to contract AIDS.

But those are big ifs, in reality things are way different, and depends on the person being responsible and using protection. So in short, the person who said that to you is mostly wrong.

@bear1515 you made one point that is quite relevant.. gay men have a lot more sex than straight ones. I vividly recall what my roommate in college had to go through to have sex with his girlfriend. For starters, she would only have sex on weekends. All week long he would have to worship her and buy her shit.. flowers, jewelry, clothes. If he did anything at all that pissed her off, he was not getting any sex. Then when he would get sex, she would tell people what a lousy fuck he is, can't get it up, can't keep it up.. has a small dick, etc

@lololulu19 She ought to be ashamed of herself for doing all that. Sounds like she isn't appreciative of that man.

@Arago44 Well, the two of them DID get married.. the both got jobs as school teachers.. they both got fired because they are both nuts. They got divorced, but they share ownership of a house. They do not live together.

There used to be an online site where students could rate their teachers. Those two got torn to bits by their students. I understood what the students were referring to because I knew both of them.

Not sure what that comment above (about teachers) was about, but it's incorrect to believe that the incidence of HIV infection when having sex with an untreated HIV+ partner is that much greater in men than with women.

The "abundance" of HIV in the gay community in "white" countries (large parts of Europe, North America, & Australia) does not extend itself to other parts of the world: AIDS is mostly heterosexual in Africa, as well as most of Asia and Latin America. This is in large part because the "gay" communities in those cultures are less "out" and so are considerably less "promiscuous"...

That said, transmission from an infected woman to an uninfected man, or from an infected bottom man to an uninfected top is considerably less likely (tho far from "hard")...

The idea that "straight" people get HIV primarily from IV drug use is a homophobic trope designed to further demonize those infected with HIV... and it is factually incorrect.
