Breaking: Felony bomb charges dropped against Florida antifa member
-
From Andy Ngo;
Garrett James Smith, the antifa member accused of bringing a destructive device to a right-wing rally in Clearwater, Fla. on Jan. 6, 2022, was released without bail to his parent's gated community home in the East Lake Woodlands on Feb. 10. His hired attorney filed a motion with the state for his client's mandatory release because the three felony counts related to making or possessing a destructive device were still pending. Law enforcement originally found a pipe-bomb looking device on his possession and a search of his room found more similar devices, along with tape and nails. But after forensic analysis on the devices by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the felony charges have been completely dropped. Bruce Bartlett, the prosecutor, wrote that Smith's devices "emit smoke but do not explode if ignited." He added Smith will only be prosecuted for the misdemeanor crime of loitering and prowling.

Once again, you insist on spreading accusations and innuendo as-if it is truth.
- Garrett James Smith was accused of having explosives - he did not, they were essentially "smoke bombs"
- Garrett James Smith was attending a rally for jailed OathKeeper Jeremy Brown. He was "identified" as a "person of interest" by Pinellas County Deputies because he was dressed all in black. They came towards him, and he ran.
- The "grenades" he had in is possession were PLASTIC,and after forensic tests, were found to pose no explosive threat - they were designed to create smoke.
- The other items found at his parent's home were also determined to be equally non-lethal
- Claims that Smith was a member of Antifa were made by other demonstrators, and were noted by arresting officers. There was never any proof - including searches of his home and social media - that he was a member of Antifa, or any other leftist group.
- What they DID find in his computer and phone were a lot of references to RIGHT-WING groups - which is now what is suspected to be his reason for attending the rally. (There is some speculation that he was expecting the rally to result in a "jail break" for Brown - and that he was there in support of the cause, not against it.
- Smith himself isn't saying. He disclaims belonging to any group - right-wing or left-wing.
In case you're not sure, the County where Smith lives and was arrested - Pinellas County, FL - is a largely conservative county - in spite of the largest City (St. Petersburg - at the south end) being largely Democrat. Sheriff Gualtieri is a long-standing conservative "law-and-order" sheriff, and is probably second only to the "Showman Sheriff" Grady Judd (of nearby Polk county) in notoriety among the State's Sheriffs. He (Gualtieri) is well respected by Republicans and Democrats alike in this State (yes, this is where I live).
Unlike the tone and tenor of this posting, the FACTS are that ALL felony charges have been dropped against Smith after investigation showed that the things he was charged for were not true.... things that included his being a member of Antifa.
NOTE: To be clear... I'm not claiming that Smith is, or is not, a member of Antifa - I'm saying there never was proof (or indication, other than his clothes) that he is or was a member of Antifa, and claims otherwise are conjecture & hyperbole intended to elicit click-bait.
@raphjd (as he always does) fell for it: hook, line, & sinker!

Oh, is that your only comeback?
You (and a couple of others) like always refused to look at the arrest documents, which talked about Antifa logos on his stuff. Either the cop lied, or the DA is soft on crime.

Sorry, but there were no Antifa logos anywhere on any of his things... made-up fake news.
Our Sheriff, and our DA's office are certainly NOT soft on crime (don't get me started down that rabbit-hole!)...
You, however, are soft-in-the-head.
The ACTUAL Sheriff warned in his ACTUAL news conference at the time of the arrest that the early reports of Smith being tied to Antifa had no evidence to support it.
The news conference where they announced his release from jail repeated that information.
OMFG! Someone in Right-Wing, Q-Anon fueled media made up facts to support their story! Shocked! I'm just shocked, I tell you! What's next? White people getting speeding tickets too?

And again, you refused to read the arrest affidavit I linked to.

And obviously, you didn't watch the Sheriff's video news conference when the arrest was made, nor did you read the press release from PCSO when he was released.
It doesn't matter - he's free (though still charged with a couple of misdemeanor counts - because the Sheriff has to justify chasing him down to start with).
