Prior to Trump, the US Justice Dept was considered as a-political as you could be in Government Service. Nixon tried to turn it into his own political "army", but was rebuked by the career professionals. Trump tried to do the same, and was not met with as-much resistance.
One of the few actions Biden has taken that I can actually agree with is that he's ordered the Justice Dept to be re-de-politicized, and those career professionals who went along with the Trumpy, partisan crap (like seizing phone and email records of political enemies - and even political "friends", just so you can "assuage any doubts" you might have about their loyalty) will face professional sanctions.
There is politics - to some extent - in every area of Government, but the Justice Dept (and, by inheritance, the FBI) should be an area of the Government where outright partisan activity should be banned, avoided, and bum-rushed out the door!
Assuming Raphjd's comment about "resident fake conservative" is about me (that may be self-aggrandizing, but hey...) - I do not think Trumpites are evil, just that they're easily manipulated and intellectually lazy.

Seriously, I've said before that I believe that even the insurrectionists of Jan 6 thought they were doing their patriotic duty - even if it was criminal and anti-democratic. Evil? no. That is completely ridiculous. There are federal employees who are "political" appointees, and there are "career service" employees.
The former (political appointees) indeed serve at the pleasure of the President - and can be let go with the bat of an eyelash.
The latter, however, are protected by Federal Labor laws, and their unions. It's actually rather HARD to fire career federal employees... which is why those positions are sought-after, even though the pay is poor.

I voted for Trump in 2016. That election, like the 2020 one, was (for me) more about protecting the country against one candidate than it was about voting for another. (I supported John Kasich in the primaries - canvased for him, held a fundraiser in my home for him).Put any 3 people in a room and there will be some politics... but that doesn't mean you embrace and extend those political views - when your job is the FBI or the Justice Dept. Yes, there were examples of politics in both before Trump (it might have been a clue when I mentioned Nixon... who, this may come as a shocker to you: was the 37th President of the US.. and 37 is less than 45, so that means he was President before Trump)... No President before Trump had attempted to use the FBI and Justice Dept as a political weapon more than Nixon. Trump took what Nixon did and amped it up on steroids! It was wrong, regardless of your political beliefs. Politics and Criminal Justice shouldn't go together - at least not easily. Can they be kept completely apart? Only a Liberal would think such an ideal was possible in the Real World... but you can work to REDUCE its influence... and that's the tack a Conservative would take.

First of all, impeachment is just the first step - like being charged with a crime (though, in this case, it's more of a political crime)... then you have a trial!
