My three resolutions for this year.
1/  see two movies in the theatre each month.
2/  Translate a Russian novel into English.  (Yes, I've already chosen the novel which has no English translation.)
3/  Bring one of my novels to a publishable level.

I have resolved – by the first day of spring -- to convert 10 lbs. of fat to muscle, to get a tan, and subsequently, to go up to NYC for a couple of weeks and get laid.  Frequently.

I have no loftier resolutions at this point, just focused on the one that's in process.   >:D

I save my lofty resolutions for the High Holy Days.  Ritual and daily practice do better in cementing those resolutions; like:  don't reply to anything on the internet with anger, answer personal e-mails within a day, stop buying candy….

John, although I'm an enthusiastic atheist, I just received a message from G-d, and he told me to tell you, buy some candy, now and then, as a reward for meeting other goals.   👼

I know Rabbis who are enthusiastic Atheists as well.

I do occasionally buy myself treats now and then.  I bought myself a good box of chocolates for Chanukah.  But I think it was good for my health, and bank account, to get my purchases of candy under my control.
