Happy New Years! How are you celebrating? What are you doing?
-
Tomorrow is the big day in Asia, then shortly after the world gets our sloppy seconds. :cool2: What are you doing for the new year? How about eve? The stroke of midnight? Do you get a few days off, or is it back to work?
Myself, I'm an American in Japan but I celebrate at a native level: Osetchi, Kohaku, family/friends, shrines. I'll be hosting a home party tomorrow where we'll do the traditional eat, drink, and watch a TV show called kohaku. We'll stay up to watch the first sunrise then head over, by train, a temple and shrine where we'll get our fortunes for the year. I'm looking forward to it. The following three days people come over to eat and drink. New Years is one of the few times you can drink for breakfast and not get an intervention.
So what are your plans?

First of all, as far as your observing a traditional Japanese New Year, it all sounds great. I am turning a little green with envy!
I was in NYC with plans to remain there (but not with the tourists in Times Square) for New Year's Eve, but the prospect of a blustery, 20-degree-below-normal weekend sent me packing:
So, we're back to Fort Lauderdale, where the Chamber of Commerce paid me 50 cents to mention the December 31 forecast is 73/60, sunny.
At night, we don't get too wild. We will talk about the year that passed, the year to to come, with champagne and nibbly bits, in front of the TV. This year, it will be interesting to see the reviews and the ratings for CNN, which has two gay men – Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen -- covering the night's countdown. :banana2:

It's also bitterly cold in Canada. I'm going to stay in and read.

Also, I think I'm going to rub one out a few hours before guests arrive, and before I get all washed and dressed.
I trust I am not oversharing.

Heck, they have a section if you'd like to record yourself and post it.
