Police: Gay basher tells couple, "You live in Trump country now"
-
"Calling them gay slurs and taunting, "You live in Trump country now," a drunken scooter rider attacked two Key West men who were on bicycles riding home on Duval Street early Thursday, police said."
"We were victims of a hate crime last night biking home from dinner," Kevin Paul Taylor posted on his Facebook page. "He kept stopping in front of us and swerving into us. Finally Kevin got ahead of him and the guy charges him with his scooter and runs into him and knocks him off his bike. Kevin is okay."
He threatened to "cut them up" if they called 911.
They scooter drive has not been arrested yet, but that sounds like attempted murder to me.

But… But... I thought Trump was Pro LGBTQ?
-
well, i think it is no longer about trump being pro or con anything.
there was a transition from a nation, where basic human decency, kindness, compassion, etc. could be expected from everyone to a society, where it is okay to show hate and violence openly.point is, those hate feelings has been there all along, but with a leading figure speking out it is okay to "punch sb in the face", this kind of change will be seen more in the future.
i think it is now more imortant than ever to step up to those unkind behaviour and say, that this is not okay, and help people who are in need. if not by ourselves than maybe calling for help, or telling authorities what wrong has happend.
-
kaworun83, you are 100% correct. So called President Trump has made people believe it's ok to say whatever they want and behave in any way they want. America is quickly going to devolve into a third world nation.
-
This could be another false flag. It's not like liberals haven't lied about being attacked before.
I know, I know, I'm the asshole for doubting this situation, but we've seen these cases before and many turned out to be false.
AND I STILL HATE TRUMP.
-
But… But... I thought Trump was Pro LGBTQ?
What has Trump done to hurt gay people?
If anything, he's improved his party's relationship to the gay community.
It still has far more to go, but he's not nearly as influenced by religion as other Republicans.

The whole story is full of inconsistencies and sounds fake. Wouldn't be the first time gays/leftists have invented fake hate crimes, just like the muslim woman in NY that said Trump supporters attacked her on the subway telling her to go back home (fake), the woman in LA that said Trump supporters ripped off her hijab (fake), the black church that was burned down and spray painted with "Trump 2016" on it (fake, one of the black church members burned it down himself), I could go on and on. There's a 90% chance this instance is fake just like all the others.

Or the two white hunters who shot each other this week and blamed it on illegal immigrants. It goes both ways…..

But it's your side that says; just believe.

okay, people, let us talk more about basic human decency.
first: making up crime, whether hate or not, is mostly concidered making a false statement, and can and should be punished; i think this works for "both sides".
second: i think, claiming that the "other side" is working with fake news without having proof trivializes any situation; let investigators do their job, do not jump to conclusions, even if circumstances points to a likely or even probable solution. this works for "both sides" too.
third: as long as a country has a working investigative system and a judicial system, it is important to trust those elements at work, police officers, prosecutors and justices doing their jobs.
but back to human decency, i think it is improtant to think about a fiktitious situation, when you get in one, as a observer passing on the sidewalk the other side of the street. What would you do? How far would you go? Would you help or call for help? Would you step in? Would you start recording the situation? Turning back, or running away is an option too, if the alternative is being hurt seriously.
EDIT: format altered for readability, no other changes made - raphjd

There's no room for even the most basic human decency in politics. Your naivete is endearing though and still gives a speckle of hope for humanity (just an itty bity speckle)
SO!
I was wondering, you guys seem to want Trump to fall with a passion, but you have also stated that if Trump gets impeached, then Pence would rise to Presidency and you say he's even worse than Trump. So wouldn't that be like, getting from the pan to the fire? (or whatever you say it)

Almost any career US politician is better than the dumpster fire of the Donald Trump presidency. If George W. Bush was a full blown alcoholic, he would still do a better job.
Donald still has a lot of support because people like the things he says, the problem is, those aren't the things he does. Sooner or later, people will figure that out. If you think Donald hasn't doomed himself to being remembered as a laughing stock, you're wrong. I'm sure the majority of Americans in 10 years will think "Remember that one time we had that complete jack off, Donald Trump as a president? Man what the hell were we thinking?" While a handful of massively butt-hurt supporters cower in bed from Trump induced fever dreams.
Thankfully, I think he's pretty much reached the limit of what he can do with an executive order (other than flounder around with new illegal orders), which means all he has left to do, is look like an idiot. Which is all he is capable of, as he is completely incompetent. As time goes on, people will get the message that he's nothing but a massive bullshit volcano that is continuously regurgitating unintelligible word salad.
-
Ok, so we have 1 fake crime assumed to be by right wingers vs about a dozen from the left.
DO NOT assume that hunters are right wingers. My stepdad hunts and is a lifelong Democrat.

In the UK at least, the data says otherwise!
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hate-crime-england-and-wales-2015-to-2016
Overall, 2.8 per cent of hate crimes originally recorded in 2015/16 were subsequently transferred or cancelled. Most of these (2.2%) were cancelled and 0.7 per cent of crimes were transferred to another police force (compared with 3.0% and 0.5% for non-hate crime offences respectively; Appendix table 2.06).
Only 2.2% of hate crimes are deemed to be false reports, compared to 3.0% for similar crime.
-
Umm, that doesn't affect what I said.

Trump is doing exactly the things he said he would do. Some of his actions might not fit your moral standards but that's what he campaigned for.

You were kinda of implying that hate crimes are faked.

Some of you need to be honest, it doesn't matter how much evidence of how true a situation is, you'd still doubt it. It's really sad how far we have fallen. You didn't doubt the circumstances around the Matthew Shepard case when it happened, did you? He really was the innocent victim of a hate crime in this country. Millions of people here dismissed what happened to him or didn't see the inhumanity of it, and then-President George W. Bush wouldn't even sign legislation to strengthen the hate crime laws here after it happened. We cannot start falling backwards as the result of #45 and his disgusting behavior. We have to move forward as a people or #45 will destroy what humanity we have left. It's highly disturbing to me that the first reaction to a possible hate crime is, "Liberals always make up stuff," instead of, "we need to try working together to make sure REAL incidents like this do not happen." I really hope nothing serious like what happened to Matthew Shepard happens again because with Jeff Sessions as AG, I don't even want to think of how damaging he'd be.

There's plenty of evidence that people lie about things, for various reasons.
Women lie about being raped.
Women lie about domestic violence.
Women lie about their husbands abusing their kids, sexually or not.
The problem is, these liars hurt real victims.

That's a good point and I agree with you; however, it has little to do with the point of my post. I'm under the impression that it doesn't matter how truthful a claim is, it is dismissed by people like you without even doing at least basic research. If someone told me they'd been raped, I would try not to dismiss them as a liar without first learning some details; especially if I knew that person. I've learned never to do that again after a very serious situation. There was a girl at my high school that I was close friends with who told me along with a few other friends that one of my close male friends raped her one day after his football practice. She'd given him a ride home and told me and some other friends that he raped her, and I flat out did not believe her and told her that to her face. Our friendship ended over that situation. I knew this boy and had been to his house and he'd been to mine because he was one of the first people I told I was gay back then, and I thought he'd never do something like that since he'd been such a good friend to me when I needed one. I chose to believe him and a couple of years later in 2010 while I was away in college, I saw on Facebook that he'd been arrested for sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman at a club. I looked up the case on my hometown's news website and it was very clear that he really did commit sexual assault against the woman in a nightclub bathroom. That situation proved to me that sometimes it's very hard to know when someone is being honest. I'm still not 100% convinced that he raped my former female friend, but I do feel like crap for taking his word over hers so quickly.
Edit: Also, domestic violence is very, very serious in my state. We have one of the highest domestic violence rates here, usually between husband and wife. We actually had a recent incident involving a state legislator who had to resign after viciously beating his wife in front of his children, and he co-authored legislation related to domestic violence:
