What's your choice of cardio?

I've heard elliptical good for a butt, what can you say about this?
I can't find a place in my training schedule for this. I do weight exercises for my butt.
As cardio I chose running in a forest with different layers of ground, it's painful, but without pain there was no pleasure. After running I can dance all night, it improves whole my life and especially sleep. -
Tabata like cardio. 20 seconds really intense, 10 to 15 seconds stop, then back for more. I HATE HATE cardio so it's the only kind that interests me or i'll die of boredom and not do any. Elite athletes do it which i am definitely not one, but i find it makes a difference. You can do any exercise you choose, but i do 5, burpees, bodyweight squats, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, then a kettlebell swing. I'm up to 3 sets so it takes about 9 minutes total (sometimes i go for more than 20 seconds intense). I'm dead after it all.

Cycling to and from work, hill sprints (30s on/60s rest) and 4 min tabata-style HIIT sessions. I really can't stand long distance running, whether it's on a treadmill or tarmac. I don't have the zen-like focus for it.

Complicated answer:
Personally? I love running. I enjoy it because it was something I never did well, but as soon as I hit 33 or so, I fell in love with it. It was helpful when my mom died, because it was therapeutic. Running cleared my mind.
For the most "bang out of your buck", it's the ergometer/rowing machine. It is, by far, the best cardio. I just have a small gym I go to that only has one machine, so there's normally a fight for it.

A particularly good form of cardio is something that won't kill your joints because those things wear out when we age. Things like runnings (especially on hard surfaces) will ruin your knees. Personally, I would recommend something like swimming, cycling, rowing (ergo or outdoors), or the X-Trainer because all of those exercises are gentler in terms of their impact to your joints.
Definitely incorporate HIIT (link to HIIT cycling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRylMkvahjM) because interval training has more impact on cardiovascular health, but the general rule of thumb applies: any cardio is still better than no cardio at all. Everybody who wants to be fit should incorporate some cardio because it not only drops the BFP but also enlongates your lifespan.

There are three different types of elliptical machines at my gym. Recently I've been bringing my own jump rope and going into one of the vacant studios to jump – it feels amazing, is fun, and has really helped develop my calves.

Sounds cool. How does it affect joints? I have problems with knees sometimes (if I run too long) putting so much pressure as hitting the ground with a power every half a second could be a problem so I'm just wondering.

I've never had a problem. After the first couple of times my ankles were tight but over time they've gotten much stronger and have helped my squat.
If you have a jump rope available, give it a shot. Jump for one to two minutes rounds. Sounds easy but it'll tire you out, trust me.

so i cut off 99% cardio workouts
It DOES help on fat burning, but it is minimal if not put on tandem with a good diet and lifting
Still, as long as you don't over do it, there are so many health benefits cardio provides other than fat burning, specially HIIT -
Prefer bicycling and jogging over all others.
