People uploading random photos for bonus points
-
Letting anyone upload photos for torrents and get bonus points is an experiment that has failed spectacularly. I come across random photos that are obviously wrong all the time, and if I feel like it, sometimes I report them. This torrent, e.g. (https://www.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=c6e8d0a46d94d0cd42fccc738f1cb52d5256a538e3d313ba&viewcomm=218706#comm218706 ), has 8 pix from some pizza boy gangbang flick that are unrelated to the included thumbnails or the cover, yet the moderator approved them. And, no, I'm not going to bother reporting it– I'm done with that tiresome BS. I may even start uploading some random pix myself -- I'm thinking random cat pix -- because why the fuck not?
My recommendation: get rid of this altogether. Or at least only allow uploads from people who have actually downloaded the torrent. And at least temporarily ban anyone who uploads these random images.

If only people who had downloaded the torrents would upload thumbs made from the download. Even the original seeder so often doesn't post extra pictures.
I often add one thumbnail picture to a torrent which only carries one cover picture. It will come from a file I already have on my hard disks. I'm not taking too much trouble. But I think it might help downloaders knowing what they might get. No, don't ask me why.
Every downloader could (COULD) add some pictures to most torrent pages but doesn't. And passes up the chance of a point or two.
I actually don't see many bad uploads of pictures. Some I report if they are really misleading.
And the link you give is to an original post in 2010 - so no-one seemed much bothered until now

Thanks for your reply, cannonmc. I also sometimes post thumbnails of files I happen to already have when there are almost no photos. One solution would let people post extra photos, but not get any kind of reward. I see, and sometimes report, what I know or what are obviously the wrong photos for torrents pretty regularly. Finally, the complaining comment on the torrent in question was only posted on Aug. 4, 2016, so the misleading photos could have been uploaded very recently (and approved by a moderator).

Those images had a Gaytorrent.ru watermark and therefore must have been added years ago.
What makes you think moderators added them?
-
1. The bonus points for photo uploads has been going on for years, so they could have been uploaded years ago. What incentive would the original uploader have for uploading misleading photos?
2. I see these all the time, for the very good reason that the site gives anyone the incentive to do it. Before my last computer crashed, I used to keep a list of bizarre gt.ru torrent postings for my entertainment. I still remember and enjoy the bizarre mishmash of https://www.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=a3ad5e365b771f2d42fccc738f1cb52d35e80a66dc331401&filelist=1#xfilelist .
My trove of funny cat pics are at the ready. Prepare yourselves, moderators!
Edit: I actually don't mean to sound rude to the staff. I very much appreciate all the work you do for me and all the members. I just don't like this one policy, and have seen problems with it for a very long time. Thanks for your responses.

I don't think I got over my point that everyone who completes a download is able to make and upload thumbnails of the movie.
A few clicks with Media Player Classic to make the thumbnails, two clicks to upload and voila!
This even works with DVDs (sometimes) by using the VTS_01_1.VOB file. That often doesn't work properly.
The only exception I've found is Mac users and DVDs

Whether this particular statement is written in jest or otherwise, do you think you are setting a good example on other members?
Moderators do not just approved add'l pics "randomly", there are guidelines to follow…...and if there are reports (helpdesk) on such matter, mods acts on that matter within the day

But viscous is not here to set a good example, that's your job

Yes, that was a joke. I appreciate the work the staff does.
However, clearly irrelevant photos do get (I assume) uploaded for bonus points regularly, and get approved by the staff. The torrent I mentioned above (https://www.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=a3ad5e365b771f2d42fccc738f1cb52d35e80a66dc331401) had obviously wrong photos approved, like "POW," "Recruiting," and "Reply All" covers - from MEN.com and other studios (now thankfully removed). Another movie torrent had dozens of vintage gay porn magazine covers added (they got deleted after I reported them).
So my suggestion from my first post stands. Particularly, you should make it clear that there will be serious consequences for anyone uploading these photos. Are there any consequences now?
-
I myself have never really come across torrents with wrong pics attached, but I guess the suggestion of allowing only people that have downloaded it to upload pics for points is rather valid. It won't stop people from still uploading wrong pics, but try to reduce it at least.
Or, the scheme could perhaps be tweaked such that users only get the points once moderators / whoever out there (again, previously download it) verifies that the pic is correct.
-
Perhaps it should be clarified how it works today:
a) Only the original uploader, members who have completed a torrent's file(s) download and staff can add pictures.b) Pictures added by members
who have completed the downloadwill go through a quick check by moderators, before the points are given out. This check is only performed within the context of that torrent's presentation page.c) There is a system of appropriate graduated response from just deleting wrong image over a PM, PM warning to system warnings. Usually it stops after a first PM. Often it are simple mistakes or missing knowledge.
d) Often we see pictures multiple times or from a previous upload. This might be due to QTM not clearing the picture list after an (failed) upload.

Just a small point, Popper.
Surely anyone can add pictures if it says "Add Screenshots and Covers to make some extra SeedPoints" on the torrent page. I have added a thumbnail picture (all I ever do) to torrents I haven't downloaded. I do that because I already have the file from a different source and can make the thumbnails quickly and easily.
The torrents that I haven't figured are those which have less than 10 pictures but don't give the option to "Add Screenshots and Covers
to make some extra SeedPoints". I'm assuming it is posted by a staff member who doesn't want anything added. I'm probably way off target with that -

:true: I too, have files that I've got wherein they show all scenes of a porn vidz

Thanks very much for that explanation, Popper. I've never used Quick Torrent Maker and it never occurred to me that it might be a QTM quirk causing this.

@ EK, you could well be right. I hadn't thought of the 'pictures pending' angle
-
your are right: All members can add pictures if there are less than 10 (including those awaiting release).
-
Just to throw this into the pot.
I've just uploaded a torrent using the manual upload page as I always do.
When I got to the 'add picture' stage there was already a picture added. It was in the same folder (My Desktop) as the pictures I was going to use but I hadn't specified in the upload which folder I was using for anything by then. The picture was for a movie that I hadn't uploaded anywhere, just one I was considering for the future.
It wasn't the first in the folder or the oldest or the newest or the biggest or the smallest. It just inserted itself…
Spooky or what?

Is it possible that you may have attempted an upload previously that you abandoned before trying that upload? I know sometimes when you've started a manual upload, it tends to keep pictures you have started to upload, making them appear the next time you attempt a manual upload. I´m not exactly sure as to why this is, I just know I´ve come across it a few times now in my days.
-
No. I had never tried posting it anywhere. And my plan was for another site anyway.
-
Right, I'm for BANNING any uploads from anyone except the original poster.
When I post I usually add two cover shots (the best I can find) and a good-size contact sheet. I post them in reverse order so they show as: front, back, contact
Earlier today I did just that - see original below.
Ten minutes later I came back to the mess below. Random snapshots that weren't identified. Two more contact sheets that were not needed. The whole thing looked as if I'd run amok.
I know I have added pictures to other torrents but I limit myself to one screenshot where the poster has only uploaded covers. And I always feel bad that my picture comes before the original but nothing I can do about that.
