Slowness of Upload Approval
-
I have uploaded, probably, over 3,000 torrents to Pirate Bay, Empornium, Mini-Nova, etc., because uploading to those sites is near instant and downloads by those members are fast and furious. While here I've tried many times to offer uploads only to find them stuck in the approval shute far too long. I pay an enormous amount of money for a static fast broadband up/download pipeline and to see it idle costs me money. If I upload four "requested" torrents before going to bed then wake up eight hours later only to see those uploads are still "waiting for approval" I've lost a lot of time and wasted bandwidth. And yes, I know I can use "auto-approval" but I shouldn't have to. NO uploader should have to grovel to the host for approval. The site is only as good as the product and if I can get that product up on Pirate Bay within minutes and see it being distributed to thousands then the desire to upload here and wait and wait and wait is lost.
Thus I pulled all four of my uploads this morning and I just won't bother to try again. GayTorrent.ru must review their upload approval policy and act much faster if they want the site to remain viable and their members to stay true. Uploaders have little to no incentive to support the site other then their desire to help other gay members and we can help other gay people through Pirate Bay, Empornium, Mini-Nova, etc., much faster and with more satisfaction.

Hey hudsonjohns,
A few points I would like to touch on from you comments above.
First, believe it or not I agree with you on the timeliness of how the torrents are approved. Every mod on this tracker shares part of the responsibility to review torrent uploads, answer helpdesk requests and reports, follow up on auto approved torrents to make sure they are ok and keep the peace in the forums. We have alot on our plate which brings me to the second point…
Every Mod on this tracker is a volunteer. We do not get special treatment as far as leeching or seeding(we do not get free downloads). We do not get paid for what we do on here.
Third, We do all we can to keep this tracker free of banned material and duplicates. The Pirate Bay, Mini Nova and Empornium are all open trackers. That means you can post 10 copies of the same thing if you want to. Gaytorrent.ru is a closed tracker. Simply put that means you must be a member and all torrents have to be reviewed before going live. For auto approval members we still review their torrents, it's just after they are posted to the tracker. They do not have to wait for approval. To gain auto approval is quite simple, all you have to do is upload 10 torrents that get approved by mods without having to be ask to change something in the torrent or to stop seeding or leeching too many torrents to allow for your to be approved.
hudsinjohns I ask that you not give up on the aprroval process on here just yet. We as mods have recently discussed this very issue and are working on ways to improve it. You said you had 4 torrents set for upload at one time but keep in mind that you can only upload one new torrent at a time on this tracker. If you feel you are waiting too long then click on the staff link at the top of the page to see what mods are online and shoot us a PM to see if we can review your upload for approval. Better yet pop into the chatroom. Someone is almost always in there to help.
You have been a member for over two years and uploaded 2 torrents…thats more than most users believe it or not so I say thank you for sharing. Give us a chance to improve and I'm sure you will be pleased with our hard volunteer work we do for you. Thanks for being honest and take care.
Best Regards
Brandon

also, i would just like to add that if you feel your connection is good enough for you to seed more than one new torrent at a time then by all means please run a speed test (at hxxp://www.speedtest.net/) and send in your results (to the HelpDesk perhaps) and we could increase the number of new uploads for you
-
You uploaded 4 new torrents at once while leeching 3. At least 1 of your uploads would have been approved immediately if you weren't leeching at the same time, and the others would have followed if you limited your torrent activity after the first 1 was fully seeded. Prove your upload speed if you have such a fast connection as you say and we'll be happy to grant you permission to upload more than 1 new torrent at a time, but you should give your bandwidth to your uploads here and not split or limit it, or have an excessive amount of other active torrents running. Do you like slow downloads? Most people don't. You haven't been giving much bandwidth to this tracker or else it would have showed in your user details page. Permission for more than 1 upload at a time will not be granted if you don't supply the necessary bandwidth, it doesn't matter how fast your connection is if you don't put it to work here. For now, all you have to do is seed a torrent until 3-4 other people are seeding it for you, then upload another. It shouldn't be just a big deal if you have such a fast connection, it doesn't take long at all to seed a new upload with a truly fast connection. One of your uploads did not have a picture, I believe you when you say that you did include one because once in a while a known bug happens with pics -it's nothing anyone here did to your torrents download page.
Aside from what cumeaternc has mentioned, another reason for the approval process is to prevent users from having too many torrents active while uploading a new one. Some users have very slow connections as is, and trying to download from someone who is seeding an upload on a slow connection while seeding/leeching a pile of torrents can take an eternity.
The approval process goes much quicker if you follow the rules ;)…

After reading about the procedures for torrent approval, I will start uploading again. I, like hudsonjohns, would upload and wait, the last time was a music torrent, that took over 12 hours, with still no approval. I thought that I was doing something wrong in the upload procedure. So, in disappointment I would delete the torrents, that I uploaded. I've gone though this several times. I haven't had any problems with the tons of stuff I've uploaded on mininova, and other sites. Seeding would begin in as little as 10 minutes. Now that I know, the the approval procedure takes a little time, I will start to upload again. SOMETIMES IT REALLY DOES PAY TO READ THOUGH THE FORUMS NOW AND THEN. :cool2:
-
You also must make sure your actually seeding the torrent, to do this check your profile by clicking on your user name at the top of the page If your not seeding we mods can not see it in our torrent approval page, after a period of time the non-seeding torrent gets deleted.
-
First of all, I agree with you, approval can take awful long and when something is wrong you get a disapproval message which don't tell the exact reason.
… And yes, I know I can use "auto-approval" but I shouldn't have to. NO uploader should have to grovel to the host for approval. ...
However the Auto Approval came to me suddenly on it's own, without any need to beg, groval or ask for it >:D. Now I have more responsibility that my uploads conform with the rules ???

The message should include the reason why it was rejected.

…
The message should include the reason why it was rejected. That would be nice, but what you get is that:
It has not been possible to approve
We understand that uploading a new torrent is not always easy and appreciate your efforts. The most common reasons for not approving a torrent are because it is a duplicate or because it is a banned file.
If you need assistance, please join us in the chat, or send a message to the help desk.
Thank you for your efforts and for sharing.

I delete that crap and put my own message in there explaining why it was rejected.

9h33m waiting for approval…this is sad
Edit: Passkey in the picture was removed. And asked the user to change his passkey

You say: 'Uploaders have little to no incentive to support the site other then their desire to help other gay members'
This is exactly right, there is little incentive or appreciation here. I have been a member for only 3 months and have uploaded 250 torrents, but I can't even be given the courtesy of a reply to 3 mods I have messaged this week.
Life eh

We do have several Mods "out" so that may be the reason why you not getting anything back. You can use the Helpdesk you may get a faster response.

9h33m waiting for approval…this is sad
If you have to wait that long I would suggest what I used to do as a user. Click on staff at the top of the page and find out what Mods are online. PM one of them and ask if they can review your upload for approval. There is no Mod sitting there in the torrrent approval queue waiting for torrents to be uploaded. We all pretty much work the WHOLE tracker so you may need to get our attention every once in a while. BTW thanks for sharing on here. Please don't let one or two bad experiences detract from the great job you are doing as an uploader. You have 10 clean uploads so I have granted you Auto Approval rights. Be looking for my PM on what you need to do. Take care.

offtopic: You have AA rights so I can't imagine it was about torrent approval which is what this thread is about.
I'm pretty sure I wasn't one of the Mods you PMed. Even if it takes me a day to respond, I respond to every member who PMs me. If you have not still received the attention you need from your PM please send me a PM and I'll see what I can do to help you out. As an alternative if it is a general question you can post a helpdesk request and all the Mods can see it and respond accordingly. Finally there is almost always a Mod in the chat rooms and they do an awesome job of responding in a timely manner.
Much Love

Have been thoroughly supported by several mods in the last few days. Very grateful for all the help and understanding on here.

I both agree and disagree with the OP. I do think that the process is so slow… The problem I have is I work everyday (teacher), and it takes several hours in order for it to get approved (about 8 average for me so far, but only done it 4 times so far, here and sextorrents) but then I have to wait for 3-4 people to get it. So it takes at least 12 hours or more to be able to shut off my computer.
Since I have a family, I can't leave my computer on uploading porn while I leave (I can't trust a 11 year old to NOT mess with the computer). So essentially I have to wait for a day off to upload something.
HOWEVER I understand why it is the way it is. While I do think 10 is high (when someone's uploaded 5 good videos they are probably okay, but maybe better safe than sorry), I do appreciate the fact that I have yet to download a file here that's a dummy/fake/virus. We also have an extensive library, good seeders, but mostly we have a qualitative library. In which I mean 2GB files instead of LQ. So overall the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. If we had immediate posting we'd all be waiting in the comments for people saying "Real file" or "fake". We'd have lots of random miscategorized files (don't you appreciate being able to search bears and not see a bunch of twinks or vice versa?).
As for it taking a long time for a mod to check something. I'm guessing gaytorrents pays very little (if they do at all) for a full time mod. So I just can't be mad at someone for doing a voluntary job... Especially since this is a free site. C'mon, one video you've downloaded already saved you about $19.95 it would've cost to buy it...
So I'll just keep on uploading on my day offs until I reach 10, and then submit auto approval. And be mad at myself if I make a mistake at #9 or #10 and have to start over xD
Someone said, 'Uploaders have little to no incentive to support the site other then their desire to help other gay members' and I was sort of shocked to see they said that as a negative thing... I don't know, the world out there is so homophobic and nonsupporting sometimes that "help other gay members" seems to me to be more than enough. It took me long enough to start uploading, (I've downloaded 382 GB), but I just saw it as a way to help out people after being helped for so long. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I get happy when I see people downloading my files, like I've done something nice for a community that's been extra awesome to me.

After one has uploaded a torrent, it should be seeded. Only then it will appear in our approval list and a moderator will review it.
If it is not seeded, it will fall back into a secondary list. It may be (but not must), that a moderator will send you a message to seed it. As soon as you restart seeding, it will reappear in the first list.
This means after some time (a few hours) of waiting for approval, if one stops and retakes seeding the evening or the next day, it is still there. Only if after 3 days no moderator was seen seeding it and it was not reviewed, it will be deleted.
Of course it is much preferable if the seeding is continuous, it assures that when ever a moderator got free time (we work, too) it is seen as waiting for approval.
If one can predict not being able to seed a torrent in one rush, it is possible to indicate seeding hours (with time zone information, please) and interupt seeding. Every body leecher and staff understand that there are many reasons for not having it's PC runing 24 hours a day and multiple days. It's nearly unavoidable on big torrents, e.g. full DL DVD.
Note that this is not optimum for the original seeders share ratio, because while he's off line, the others will share between each other what they got already. -
I said this in an earlier post but I think it bears repeating….If you need a quick approval try these two things. First, click on the Staff link at the top of this page. If you see a green "light" by a mods name he is probably online and available. PM that mod and ask him to review your torrent for approval. There are so many areas to this site that a mod may be in the forums or reviewing Auto Approved torrents to ensure they are correct. The second thing is to hop in the Chatroom. There is almost almost always a mod in there.
BTW: Mods receive no pay.

We find several rule breakers, improperly titled torrents, fakes, duplicates, etc during the approval process too. Quality aside, we wouldn't need an approval process if we could rely on everyone to follow the rules.
I'm guessing gaytorrents pays very little (if they do at all) for a full time mod. So I just can't be mad at someone for doing a voluntary job…
Aint that the truth. We don't get paid at all and don't get any special perks either, all we get is work. We all work here because we love this site, it's just a hobby.
We do need more mods from different time zones or who are here at different times than our current torrent approving staff. Not everyone on the staff does approvals, and the ones that do may be away for one reason or another occasionally (school, work, personal matters, vacationing, etc).
This thread is still valid if anyone is interested; http://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=275.0
BTW: Brandon's suggestion of PMing a mod who is working on the site does work ;), I've done it myself when I was a regular user and was surprised at how fast my torrent got approved.
