Tea tree oil. It's a natural and strong antiseptic. There are many tea tree-based face washes and lotions that you should include in your daily routine. Body Shop has a whole, fantastic line. If you're not near any place that sells them, your local supermarket or pharmacy will most likely have bottles of pure tea tree oil.
I use it for damned near everything, especially acne. Combine it with an apricot scrub for an exfoliating face wash (add one or two drops per dime-sized amount of apricot scrub), combine a few drops with an ounce of water for an antimicrobial mouthwash (DO NOT SWALLOW IT), add a drop to baking soda toothpaste (seriously, don't swallow it), and combine it with your shampoo for dandruff. If you can get your hands on L'Occitane almond shower oil, add 4-5 drops of tea tree oil to that as a body wash or shampoo.
More than anything, pure tea tree oil is a fantastic spot treatment— dab a drop on a cotton swab (or your finger) and apply it directly to your blemishes before bed. They'll fade overnight, and will usually disappear after two applications.
Stop using salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide because it will dry your skin too much, leaving it susceptible to further blemishes, increased oil production, and even infection.

I am twenty years old and never had a problem with acne as a teenager. I have only had an issue with it recently as a young adult.
I think that when people suggest ways to get rid of acne with products for the skin, they are ultimately fooling you, either through lack of knowledge or because they are a company that wants to make money. All you need to use on your skin are, a) a gentle, simple cleanser, b) moisturiser. If you have acne scars or deep blackheads, you will need to see a dermatologist and get some kind of facial.
The main two ways that you get rid of acne are:
1. Diet
2. LifestyleIt took me a year of research, but now I am clear of acne because I adopted what is referred to as a "paleo diet" and avoided dairy, sugar, most grains and gluten.
You need to eat less fatty foods. Be healthy in your diet and exercise as often as you can. You don't need to eat less. You just need to eat the right kind of foods. Eat more fish rather than meat. Take vitamins and fish oil, etc.
If none of this works (it's really quite simple) and the acne is hormonal and quite extreme, then you might need to speak to a doctor about medication.

clindamycin phosphate gel
ONLY thing to 90% + work for me. Everything else maybe 50% better (tea tree, etc)Only 1% is absorbed through the skin.. So having any anti-biotic side effects is extremely improbable.
Don't waste your money on everything else. I've learned the hard way.

**_I liked the idea of drinking wine.. But I wonder how that could help!

Er, ignore the one telling you to 'get a life or play sports' – I don't know what that guy is on.
Tea tree oil is great. Trader Joe's, if you have one near you, carries a face wash that is superb for preventing and treating acne. I inherited my mother's combination skin and it helps immensely with stopping acne breakouts or blemishes.
Diet can help, but it's important to know what aspect(s) of your diet may be the major cause. The skin is an organ like all the others. Skin problems may just mean that your body is trying to get rid of waste material it has no other way to dispose of, so it is definitely advisable to look at what you're putting in your body and maybe think about improving your diet.
Try to avoid touching your face too much. Fingers are terrible about picking up oil, bacteria, and various other substances you don't want on your face. Wash your hands regularly.
Avoid applying oily lotions to your face, in general. If you wear any kind of makeup, be sure to take it off as soon as possible when you're done with it. Never sleep in makeup. Some people can also be sensitive to using things like hair spray, which can clog pores on the face, so you might want to wash your hair and face after you're done with your style for the day.
Keep your face away from oil steam. If you're frying anything and there's oil and steam, it can be really bad for your complexion. Deep fryers are the worst for this, since they atomise the oil and other substances, which then become airborne. There's a reason why people tend to smell like fryers if they spend any time at all around them: it gets all over their skin and the fabric of their clothes. If you are around something like this, wash as soon as possible and change out of those clothes. You don't want that against your skin for any length of time if you can avoid it.
Try to keep your stress levels manageable. Stress is devastating for health, and that means that people more prone to acne breakouts will be more likely to develop them in situations of long-term high stress. There are also a lot of other things made worse or caused by persistent high stress, so please take care of yourself!
Basically, prevention is far better than treating the symptom, which is the acne. There are plenty of over-the-counter creams, ointments, and other solutions. I recommend washing your face regularly, though of course don't overwash it. If you just change a few things and mind a few other things, you should see some improvement with just a little easy here and there damage control.
Hope this helps!

Cutting out dairy was what helped the most for me. I am wary of any of the lotions & potions marketed for such problems.

Sunscreen also blocks my pores.
What works for me is getting some of the sensitive sun milk they make for children.

I would agree that avoiding touching your face too much would help..
Fingers are for sure, terrible about picking up oil, bacteria, and various other substances you don't want on your face..
So washing your hands regularly should be a good suggestion!

Washing hands and not touching face great suggestions, also not over washing your face. Drying out the delicate balance can also be problematic.
Also accepting the occasional blemish in the perfection that is you is good as well. I still get break outs (especially in humidity) even though I was assured it was 'just a phase' I was going through when I was a teenager just months ago…yes I mean months not decades. This is the internet, everything I say here must be true.
