      I'm wondering what makes a torrent show up as new on the Search and Browse pages, but actually it's been here for a while and they're being re-announced with the recycling logo.  This is a handy feature to let users know of some "hidden gems" that might not otherwise be found.

      I'm putting this in the Forum rather than asking the Help Desk because this topic might be of interest to others.  Or maybe not…your mileage may vary.

          @eobox91103:

          This is usually a staff function, done when a staff member notices there are reseed requests going up on a certain dead or almost dead torrent. (There may be situations where the site system does this automatically, but to be honest, I'm drawing a mental blank on whether or not this situation exists; fuzzy memory,  :cheesy2: so sorry)

          Speaking for myself, when handling these situations that arise, I may generate ANOTHER reseed request, then follow with making the torrent freeleech, then "promote" the torrent, moving it to the top of the public list, which then adds the "Recycled symbol" at the head of the torrent name.

          On RARE OCCASIONS (note that we really don't encourage this, but we DO make friendly exceptions), we may honor a request by a member made via PM (and rarer still, via the helpdesk, but we really hate getting asked to do this in the helpdesk, ok?) and will help a member out, when the situation is justified (by researching the torrent status / history) and promote a torrent when requested (and maybe add those two other actions mentioned above)

          Sorry, this function is NOT available to members, LOL, and I'm thinking you might have been hoping it would be, based on your OP. 😊

          Take care,

            Thanks very much for your complete answer!  I wasn't looking to have this be a member-invoked function; I think this would lead to chaos with a flood of "promotions."  We already see some chaos with member-available photo posting.

            I was just curious, as occasionally one of my own uploads will get promoted.  I'm always happy when this happens, because it means more people will be able to see my uploads, which are of course only the very finest material.  😉
