Using Thumbnail maker for large torrents
-
Hi Guys,
I need some help /advice. I am preparing a large collection torrent, Since the tracker is public, I tend to change the titles making them generic such as BB2, BB5 and such because I di not want someone to claim copyright and have the torrent removed. I was told to use a thumbnail maker as it would help site user determine what the title is even with my generic name change. Is this true? I have no experience with this subject. Below is the message I received. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.May be you should you a software as Video Thumbnails Maker or others.
VTM is an easy freeware, you almost have nothing to do.
It generates thumbnails with the name of the video. It can be used on entire folders and subfolders.
Put all the contact sheets in one separate folder to download and it's done : people download this folder and can choose the videos they want to download. -
@wade youre wasting your time and making life unnecessarily harder for downloaders. no dmca checks are done on file names, and no combination of idiotic character strings is going to protect 'your content' from such checks.
that said, thumbs are a good idea regardless of whether you intentionally and pointlessly fuck up the file name or not. -
@smbsmbsmb123 DMCA does not protect pornography, because it is considered to be "obscene". Therefore, the people producing pornography cannot sue anybody for copyright infringement.
Frankly, the DMCA and other organizations such as "Fortinent" are criminal scams that convince companies that they NEED protection, charge them huge amounts of money for that protection, yet don't actually protect them much as all - other than by intimidation.
Also, in the area I live, Fortinet was charging many corporations for their fake protection. Their "protection" amounted to just completely BLOCKING websites entirely. That scheme failed, and corporations have been dropping their subscriptions to Fortinet's extortion for the past several months. Last year, virtually ALL the restaurants and stores in the area I live in were blocking using Fortinet. Now, I can't think of ANY that do. Maybe Fortinet went out of business?

@lololulu19 that is disinformation. porn is not excluded from copyright.

... I was told to use a thumbnail maker as it would help site user determine what the title is even with my generic name change. Is this true? ...Thumbnail maker (at least the one I use, Thumbnail me) has the option to include "Video Info", Filename is one of them. However, if you rename files before generating thumbs, then thumbs will also have generic names. You can, however, generate thumbs and then rename files to a generic names. The challange for downloaders would be to associate renamed file (which would be in torrent) with thumbs. Probably filesize can help to narrow it down or maybe even uniquely associate. If filenames have some unique references that doesn't change during renaming process, for example plain sequence numbers as part of the filename.
Regardless, I think adding thumbs is an excellent idea, so long as individual frames are not too small.

This x1000!!!! So many people create thumbnails that are tiny and/or have stupid orientations. When I've made them in the past I tend to prefer 6 tiles wide by 5 vertically, with an individual tile width of 300px. For a full length film you'll get a frame roughly every 5 minutes that large enough to see properly.
Also, please don't start copying some users here who simply upload a screengrab of their Windows folder. Yeah, it shows you the filenames and a small thumbnail for each one, but more often than not it's of no help whatsoever.

This is all wrong ...
The purpose is to present what is the actual content not the entire clips ...
This is considered spamming due to repetitive images ...A 4x3 = 12 or 4x3 = 16 [images] in row/column is acceptable ...
versus 9x9 = 81 [images] dude something wrong w/ you ...

Regardless of renaming the files ...
There is nothing you can do [A copyright is copyright]
Keep in mind that Any file ex: movie clips being downloaded has been watermark from the source
or by means of account/membership to traceback your suspicious activities [while sharing] ...Plus you are breaking the site rules ...
- No coded names and titles, e.g. "J0hn D 0 3" for John Doe. Torrent titles must match the name of the video, program, etc. when known.

@john32123666 OMFG! That's hideous, especially when you consider that it get resized to fit your screen when you view it on the site. The only thing that's worse are the ones that are only 1 tile wide but like 40 tiles vertically!

@wade I just thought I'd point out that not only does obstructing the title and/or the names of the performers make it hard to search, thereby making it a useless upload, but you should be careful as the rules are VERY clear that the video must be properly identified. So not only is this process generally frowned upon, but it can also be a violation of the site rules, which can get you into trouble.
-
Something needs to be done. The site becomes unusable when people abouse thumbnail generator. Just post a single screenshot of the performer, please.
-
@nvidia25 Not sure about the single shot of a performer. I've got no issue with people adding sensibly-scaled thumbs, but I've also see a trend where people will upload a single publicity pic of a performer which does nothing to inform users of the nature of the upload. I personally like a thumb-sheet plus a couple of well-chosen full-frame shots. The larger frames are easier to see while browsing, but the thumbs show you what actually happens. This is especially true of OF/CB/JFF uploads, where you might get 20 seconds of ass shown in a 2-hour stream.

I think there are two topics going on here: (1) I think the OP was asking about thumbnail files that would be part of of the torrent itself, and (2) others were addressing thumbnail files that would be part of the description on the torrent page.
Both approaches are useful, depending on the circumstances: If the torrent has only a few videos (four or less, maybe), then having thumbnail files posted as part of the torrent page is a good idea, along with some large single photos.
For torrents with a lot of video files, I like to see a separate folder of thumbnails in the torrent itself; then I can download only the thumbs and then decide which video files to download.
Whether a thumbnail file is part of the torrent page or downloadable from the torrent, advice from members above should be heeded:
-
Set the thumbnail generator to make each thumb a good size--150 pixels high at a minimum.
-
Don't have the video sampled too often--once every two minutes will give a sense of what's going on.
-

I don't download torrents that have been renamed because I file everything by studio. I also use thumbnailme because it is free and excellent. Torrent info can be switched off so it is not included in the image, but any torrent that that contains files which have been disguised make me cancel the download.
