3 Seeders but stuck at 87.9%
-
I am trying to download one video from a torrent that contains several videos. It took a while to connect and the speed was relatively low. It downloaded about 87.9% of the video that I am after and now it's stuck there. I tried restarting uTorrent (v 3.5.5) several times, restarted PC but no success. There has been no change in settings or any updates - so I am puzzled. I tried test downloading a small torrent (18 mb) and it downloaded fully.
P.S. I cant even request reseed (possibly because it shows 3 seeders)
The torrent ID is

@OKCancel Are you trying to download the entire contents of the torrent or just some of them? I saw a few rare ones I didn't have and kicked off a job to grab three files out of 44 - I'm wondering if the 3 current seeders have a partial download configuration like what I'm attempting..
-
@jrewingwanna The system only count people who have 100% of the torrent as seeders. If for whatever reason you have downloaded only a few files, or left just a single one unchecked, for as long as that torrent is active in your client, the system will register you as a leecher.
If there are 3 seeders and 8 leechers, let's say, odds are that some of those leechers are not actually downloading anything, they just selected what they wanted. So when you go and try to download, if you can't establish a connection to any of the 3 seeders but are able to connect to the leechers, you'll be able to download everything they have.
This is likely what's happening with OP. What might fix his issue is having the torrent be freeleeched, as this increases the likelyhood of someone managing to establish a connection to one of the few seeders available.
-
@jrewingwanna Just one of the 44 files. What puzzles me is that 3 seeders (who supposedly have 100%) and it downloaded 87.9%, though not continuously and relatively slow (max speed I saw was about 100 kbps) but now not even that.
-
@OKCancel Are connected to any seeders or just other leechers? In your client, what does the "Availability" column say for that torrent?
In BiglyBT I occasionally find that even though I'm supposedly connected to seeders but not seeing any traffic. I can sometimes fix this by manually updating the tracker, waiting a minute to make sure its done and then restarting the client.
As someone who's PC is generally on 24/7 I do sometimes follow the universal advice from tech support everywhere: "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" Sometimes it's actually worked for me.

Yes, that's my observation too. I don't understand how I can't connect to any of them now.

@frostycab in uTorrent it shows 0(3) in seeds column. In Info tab, Availability is showing 0.036, seeds 0 of 0 connected (3 in swarm)

@OKCancel
You need to check the availability shown by your torrent client, If it isn't showing 100% then none of the active uploaders have the entire torrent. Likely many (all?) of the leechers are like you waiting for the missing chunk. Sometimes people delete files they have watched but keep the torrent active. This can also happen with file corruption on the server. Uploaders often move data around on their servers. -
@frostycab
Off topic. I had never heard of BiglyBT before. I looked at the website and it has a number of unusual features. Do you find them useful? How does it compare with rtorrent/rutorrrent? -

Not quite correct. If they had originally downloaded 100% of the file they will show as seeders. They may no longer have the whole file set still on their server/PC. Though 3 rather than 1 is a bit strange. Once I spent over a month gradually downloading a torrent I was desperate for at just 20bs!Some original uploaders will keep a torrent active but at at a very low upload speed so as not to interfere with their other activities If you could persuade someone to 'bump# the original uploader you may get a better result - though I note he said he intended to delete the files from his system (once there were 3 or more seeders!)

yeah it's not budging for me.. stuck at 0% for a couple of hours now

@nix54 I've tried various clients over the years. I actually quite like utorrent at one time, but I always liked Azureus/Vuze, probably because it was the first client I ever used and I had sentimental feelings for it. I believe BiglyBT is simply the newest iteration of Vuze.
I just find it very easy to work with. I like the layout and options, and it seems to perform as well as any other client I've tried. I'm far an expert though, and don't really dive into my clients too deeply. I tend to install, set up my folders, queuing options and layout and then sit back and watch the porn roll in.
Out of interest, which features strike you as unusual? I might want to investigate them and see if I can make use of them if I'm not already.

I wasn't aware of the caveat about seeder. It still puzzles me that I was able to snatch 87% and then stopped. Why would someone seed partial file? Yes the original uploader indicated that he would delete from his side but then he wouldn't be seeding now. I can't even request reseed. I guess I will just have to give up.
-
@OKCancel Never give up. I've left incomplete torrents running for 3 months before, often stuck somewhere over 90%. Occasionally you get lucky and someone will connect and send you the rest. It costs nothing apart from the drive space allocated. I just put it on forced downloading so it doesn't count in my queue allowing my existing queue rules to run.

@OKCancel which movie are you after? I can probably get it for you

I am trying to download Classified Action A Call For Cock Catalina from the torrent. I have been able to download 784 MB of 895 MB. If you have it will be greatly appreciated (even if it is not an exact copy as the one I am trying to download).
-
@OKCancel
It looks as if a two daily rental can be had for c$2.99https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Classified+Action+A+Call+For+Cock+Catalina&t=opera&ia=web

Thank you!! It downloaded the remaining part while I was not watching. And now it's freeleech with 91 seeders.
Thanks to whoever has made this possible and also those who tried to help.
