Regarding poppers...
-
Has anyone else ever wondered if it actually makes a difference which brand of poppers you buy?
I'm of the opinion that they are made in large batches, bottled, and then slapped with any old label rather than actually being made to specific recipe for that brand.
Admittedly, most of them smell pretty similar and might be of around the same strength, but sometimes I'll buy a 10-pack to take advantage of pricing, and within that pack the quality varies wildly. I opened a new bottle last night that had hardly any scent at all but was incredibly potent, whereas the previous bottle from the same brand and pack was heavily scented and as weak as a weak thing that was felling particularly weak that day.
This has all led me to believe that it makes no difference whatsoever to which ones you buy as overall quality seems to be pure pot luck, so it seems best just to buy the cheap ones.
What do the rest of you think?

@frostycab I think that NITRATES are amongst the most cancerous non-radioactive substances, and I would not advise inhaling them.
Poppers are amyl nitrate
-
@frostycab Brand does matter. There are actually two different kinds of nitrates. One of them is your typical run of the mill, while the other will give you more of a helium like high. So yes... Brand does make a difference.
-
@lololulu19 That's actually only ONE kind.... There are two different kinds of nitrate based poppers.
-
I googled what a poppers is, but to those who actually used it, what does poppers do to you?
-
@kalayaan practically it loosens the muscles so it works like some sort of anesthetic that kills the pain without messing with other stimuli, so you can still feel everything else. Disregarding the physical effect it provides, it also causes some of your more usual drug effects like an instant rush and increased heart rate, which also helps sustaining a boner. That's why it's loved by tops and bottoms alike.

@frostycab
Hey guys this is a gay porn site. Do you really not know about poppers and how they are used? The difference between how it feels if you are being topped rather than topping? The difference between hexyl, pentyl, butyl, propyl, and amyl nitrite. How dangerous propyl is to your eyes. How dangerous it can be for anybody with a heart condition to sniff poppers with viagra, cialis, etc.
Yep, this is a big topic! Essential to your health and to your enjoyment of sex (on your own and with others).

@kalayaan I often describe it as orgasm in a bottle.... It takes the regular old piggy me and makes me much hornier, much hungrier, and much more able to go balls to the wall without any issue.

- Poppers is a common slang term for a range of chemical psychoactive drugs called alkyl nitrites, and in particular, the inhalant drug amyl nitrite. When inhaled, poppers lead to an instant high that includes symptoms such as increased heart rate, dizziness, and feelings of euphoria.

@MrMazda The dangerous part is the NITRATE. However, I did a little more research and found out that it is not the nitrate / nitrite itself that is cancerous, but the amines that are produced when combined with other things such as meat. So, while you will not find nitrates in many (if any) food products, they MIGHT be safe. However, I refrain from inhaling any chemicals.
putting that aside... just what is it that poppers are supposed to do.. and are they effective at doing it? a LONG time ago, I took a sniff of poppers, and as I recall, it smelled like gasoline.
I get the impression that poppers are used primarily by people who engage in being fisted.I remember my university Chemistry professor warning students to avoid any contact with nitrates.
I would also add that some people, especially in California, think that everything causes cancer.When taken into the body by drinking water and through other dietary sources, nitrate and nitrite can react with amines and amides to form N-nitroso compounds (NOC), which are known to cause cancer in animals and may cause cancer in humans.
-
@MrMazda hungrier? hmm... I have a family member who lost his appetite, and refused to eat. I wonder if poppers would have restored his appetite.
It what way do they make you horny?
One problem I have is that I have great difficulty getting an erection unless I am visually stimulated or I think about the young guy who sends me highly erotic videos of himself. Supposedly, he was straight, but no longer trusts femalese due to some real life disasters. He likes to show me his body and cum and shaving off his pubes.. etc. We all need friends like that!in a related issue.. I have noticed that pretty much all males enjoy ANAL stimulation, especially as they get older. I notice that in porn videos, the guy getting fucked almost always cums while being fucked, and the top cums later.
In other words, guys generally prefer prostate stimulation to fucking -
@MrMazda There are more than 2. There's amyl, isopropyl, isobutyl.... The list goes on, though buying them in the UK it's very rare you will find the specific active ingredient on the label.
The point I was trying to make is that if I was to open 2 bottles of the same brand from the the same packaging tray the odour and potency of them appears to vary wildly, making it a complete lottery as to which brand to buy.

As has already been said, many people see them as a muscle relaxant which, for reasons I'm sure you can work out, can make penetrative sex easier for a bottom. The main attraction to many people though is they can illicit a huge headrush feeling which travels down the body in a wave. Depending on their efficacy this can last from a few seconds to around a minute. I wish I could compare it to alcohol to give you a better idea, but I rarely ever got anywhere near what most would consider "drunk" and haven't had alcohol in well over 10 years.
I get the impression that poppers are used primarily by people who engage in being fisted.
Nope, they're for everyone. You will even find people taking the odd sniff while on the dancefloor at some gay clubs.
When I was still young I went to a coworker's housewarming party. This was back in the day when I thought I was straight, and knew next to nothing about "gayness." He and several of the the other staff were gay, and at one point one of them said "Hey, smell this!" Being young and naïve I played along, and then spent the next 5 minutes giggling in a chair. That was my first experience with them.
-
@frostycab Well, I can imagine that if one has a cock as HUGE as that of RaphJD, one would require poppers to relax the sphincter muscles to take that monster.

@frostycab
Propyl (short for isopropyl) is the only type of nitrite (yes 'nitrite' not 'nitrate') that you can legally buy in the UK. It is not especially strong but has a strong lingering chemical smell. It is also an acknowledged cause of AMD (Advanced Macular Degeneration) so should not be used in gas masks (where the eyes are directly and continuously exposed to the fumes).If you want pentyl nitrite which is a slightly slower but more intense high you have to buy online from an EU supplier (Long existing French and/or German companies are reputable). Amyl has also become commercially available in the last couple of years from these sources. They will usually give you the chemical description of the isomer particular to the poppers brand you want to buy.
If your poppers bottle really stinks then you probably have a lid that doesn't seal properly or you have too much air left in the bottle. The active ingredient in poppers reacts with water in the air and will quite rapidly dissipate leaving a stinky residue.
-
@nix54 I only ever buy online, as they're usually less than half the price of the same brands over the counter in the UK. The site I originally got them from used to ship from Vancouver in Canada if the postmark is anything to go by, but shipping times were awful. I've been using a UK-based site for the last 3 or 4 years, and usually get them for as little as £2.50 a bottle depending on brand and quantity. I'm open to specific suggestions of other sites to try though.
I've not come across any that really stink, but most do have quite a strong and distinctive odour. However, the last bottle I opened (same brand as the previous 3 or 4) was so subtle that I did have to look to make sure there was anything in the bottle, and it gave me the most intense rush I've had for ages. That's what got me wondering if others are finding huge inconsistencies in a single brand or not.
And yes, you're right, they are nitrites. I think it's just a habit calling them nitrates as that's what most people call them. Ordered a new batch today, and they are listed as "Ingredients: Isopropyl Nitrite (CAS 541-42-4)" I'm actually quite impressed that the site has that information, as many don't bother to let you know the active ingredient.

@frostycab
I gave up buying in the UK either from shops or online a few years ago. I found great inconsistencies, which I suspect are down to how they are stored by the supplier. None of the brands show any trackable supplier information. I usually pay £8 - £10 a large bottle online.As to the hit/buzz/rush. I have a suspicion that the body adapts to use of a particular brand and so the hit is not so good after a while. You change to a different brand and back comes the hit. I don't really know. I remember dancing and giggling with poppers when I was young but I don't get that rush nowadays!
As to the suppliers - I suspect we are not supposed to give details. They advertise online though, there is one I use in Germany and one in France that have been around forever. If you look on their sites you will see they give proper information as to what they are supplying. If the site you are looking at don't do that, go look at another site.
