Mr Potato Head goes gender neutral
-
In time for christmas 2021, Mr Potato Head will be gender-neutral. The new name is simply Potato Head.
Mrs Potato Head will be dropped from the line.
Baby Potato Head will continue, as will the Potato Head Family boxsets.

Actually, per the Hasbro Twitter feed Mr & Mrs Potato Head aren't going anywhere... what changed was the "Brand"...
Apparently, the actual toys: Mr & Mrs Potato Head, Baby brother Spud and daughter Yam are still there too... Not one toy or box containing the toy is being changed...
In other words, this is just a publicity stunt.... and its working!
They haven't changed any part of the product, or its packaging, and yet everyone is talking about the Potato Head toy line!

Are you sure it's not damage control?
According to another article that I just read, they are adding a gender-neutral version to the line-up.

I don't care if they add extra mustaches, or extra girly-lips (or whatever makes a Mrs. Potato Head feminine - I haven't played with a Potato Head toy in a very long time!) ...
Just don't take away the Mr. Potato Head box, or the Mrs. Potato Head box.... if my son (ok, grandson now) wants to play with a Mrs. Potato Head, I'm all for it! But let's not pretend the genders and gender roles don't exist! We may not be beholden to them, but they DO exist!
Personally, my MBA cynicism pushes me strongly in the belief that this is just a publicity stunt... no REAL change, just something blatantly controversial that actually has no real risk...

When we would visit our cousins, we sometimes had to play with girl dolls because that's what they had or when they came to our house they had to play with male dolls (action figures) because that's what we had.
My step sister was 12 when she came to live with us and both of my half-sisters were born while I was in the military. So they got our hand-me-down toys, plus new ones for themselves.
