I haven't made any changes to my browser or installed any new extensions but I started getting Usage Violation messages whenever I try and download a torrent about a week ago. I've tried via the search results page and the torrent details page. I'm using Firefox 81.0.2 on Ubuntu 20.

      Here's a video - https://youtu.be/IAapMf4Pa_M

@goodblowjob Has your User Agent or other Firefox settings changed?

Please try Google Chrome or a different browser to see if you can download a torrent.

This was 100% my fault, the add-on I use to manage referrer headers was updated and started blocking same-origin. Once I excluded GT I could download again.

Just a technical note: The user pointed out that he was using Firefox on Ubuntu 20 - that's a Linux system.

A lot of tech-savvy users (like myself) use Linux systems to browse porn and download Torrents because these sites are often RIFE with viruses and other malware. And, quite simply, most of those attack-vectors just do not work in Linux! What's more, Linux does a much better job of "privilege separation" so that any malware installed is limited to the logged-in user (unless they're fool enough to do these things logged in as "root")!

The point being: Chrome doesn't exist on Linux.
There is the open-source chromium - upon which both Chrome and the new Microsoft Edge browsers are BOTH based - but no Chrome, per se.

If the GT.ru team is in need of Linux-aware "support", I'm happy to oblige... when you get a Linux-oriented question, just shoot me a note and I'll look at it! I've been working in/on/around Linux since before Linux Torvolds released 1.0 of the kernel! 🙂

@bi4smooth Thanks for that information! The only thing we use Ubuntu for is PiHole at home. Not at all familiar with it beyond that.

As @raphjd is our Administrator, he may be the best connection if there is a need for Linux support. I'm new to Staff here, and will be in Training for a while 🙂

@raphjd Does anyone else on Staff use Linux or familiar with it? I'm too new to know. Wonder if we get a lot of Linux inquiries. It's a hassle that there are so many operating systems along with a lot of different torrent software in use.

Glad when Members can get here to download and share.

@raphjd You are correct. I run a cross between Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linix, depending on what system I'm on.

Cool then - so other members of Staff should know then to direct help inquiries about Linux-specific problems to MrMazda! 🙂
