Any opinion on the NY Times mystery oped?
-
You can read it here: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/05/opinion/trump-white-house-anonymous-resistance.html
All I can say is WOW. (I'll think of more later lol)
-
some say it's Pence? 'because who else on the planet uses the word "lodestar"'?
all i can think of it's coward move, if that person is still have any backbone, s/he stands up against this bully president. this president has too much noise/drama.
-
I doubt it's Pence, but I expect before it is all over whoever it is will either go public or be "outed". Things like writing style, sentence structure etc, someone in that mix will identify the author. OR. It is just some ass clown nobody tossing a grenade out to see what happens "if". It wouldn't be the first time a major publication "got had". You know one thing for sure, there is a serious witch hunt going down in Trump's inner circle. Whoever this is - they have good cause to have a tight asshole right now.
TBH I am stunned he has managed to dodge impeachment so far. Just based on his reckless use of Twitter! >:D
Our nation has been hijacked by a game show host. If ANY writer in Hollywood had written this story back in the 90's they would have laughed him out of the writer's guild. I wonder how the Dems that pushed Hillary Clinton's fat ass up the ladder are feeling right now, knowing if they had just gone with the "peoples" choice, and given Sanders the nod - this would all have gone very differently.
Incredible.

White people hating NYT, of all places.
Trump has the balls to say what he thinks and that makes him special, even if you disagree with him.
Republicans, with extremely rare exceptions, are trying to seem centrists.
All Democrats have gone into the deepest pits of identity politics and socialism. Even a decade ago the Democrats were highly anti-illegal immigration and now they love illegals above anyone else.
I used to vote virtually exclusively Democrat, with 1 exception. Now I can't stand either party.

Sorry, but I had to stop reading that piece of shit. It sounds like a leftist wrote it to undermine Trump and Co.
The person talked about Trump not being for "free trade", but that is why Trump got rid of NAFTA. NAFTA shit on the US from the start. NAFTA prevents the US from applying tariffs to products within North America but allows others to do it.
As an example, Canada has 278% tariffs on American dairy products. NAFTA allows this and other tariffs against US products, this but prevents the US from doing likewise to Canadian products.
Bill Clinton fucked the US with NAFTA.
US highways got flooded with shitty, unsafe Mexican semi trucks. This is because NAFTA took away the safety restrictions from Mexican trucks entering the US. In other words, Mexican trucks were exempt from US safety standards in the US, that US trucks had to obey, even in Mexico.
Trump is trying to get a better deal for the US than this piece of shit NAFTA allows.
++++
Bill Clinton shit all over the US with NAFTA, DOMA and DADT. Sadly, fags still think he's a god.
Hillary, even when Obama finally supported gay marriage (decades of flip-flopping), was still against it. Fags still support her.
Trump supported gay marriage when Bill Clinton enacted DOMA. Fags hate Trump.

We are in total agreement on Bill Clinton, that fucktard did more damage to our economy than anyone can possibly gauge. Hell even Hillary's stupid ass acquiesced to that. Sadly much of that damage is irreversible, as it caused a TON of factory closings here in the US. I don't see that returning.
I won't disagree, I think Trump said a lot of things Americans wanted to hear, he has always been the king of spin. But I am afraid his antics on social media have done harm in that for a "highly educated" man, he has the most startlingly bad grasp of the English language I have ever seen, it makes me question his intellect, and YES sometimes his sanity. He needs to delete his Twitter account - it is not his friend. His constant stage antics are going to keep him from ever actually accomplishing anything.
Illegal immigration has always been a problem here in the states. One that was allowed to prevail for so long it became a running joke nation wide. It was hard to get anyone off the dime to do anything about it because 75% of the politicians in Washington had them in their EMPLOY. You couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting someone with a Mexican nanny, and some big long sob story about how they felt she deserved citizenship. The REAL truth is these people have been doing work that no American wanted to do for a hundred years. What REALLY scared some people is that granting them citizenship could potentially draw a TON of attention to a lot of industries that have evaded taxes for eons. After all, these people have to be gainfully employed. Hmm.
At any rate, Trump put forth a lot of really big ideas that appealed to a lot of people who were fed up with the status quo. His election represented hope for an end to that. But that isn't how it is working out. Worse still, those ideas will likely die with his Presidency as they will be forever tethered to "Trumpism" and therefore deemed unfit.
I think most Americans are dead tired of both parties. Tired of the endless trail off bullshit emanating from Washington. Democrats, Republicans, the whole thing has become so smarmy it is hard to watch. I keep hoping for some grand voice of reason to come from the crowd, but it never comes.
As for the NYT, I think their desperation to stay relevant in a world where "sensational" is the only thing that SELLS has taken away from their veracity. That oped? I think it sounds more like the work of a disenchanted intern, one who thought this new world order was going to be really huge - and reality came and took a giant steaming shit on his dreams. Turned out the man that got elected was just a sock puppet to a lot of flashy writers, and may quite possibly actually BE batshit crazy.
I hope an alternative to all this makes itself known soon.

I never voted for him, but Senator Alfonse D'Amato of NY, despite being a huge turd far-right Republican, sure beat the crap out of the banking industry at every turn. When he chaired the Senate committee that controlled the banks, he forced them to stop the ass raping charges that the banks were growing to love.
I'd tolerate a homophobe like that again if the person had the balls to fight for the American people like he did over the banking bullshit.
-
I think if people are waiting for the perfect human to do something they will all have a really long wait. Truth is even people who are on the face accepting of gay people can say some of the most homophobic shit! Mostly when they think nobody that matters is in ear shot. If they are doing their job, that is what should matter.

In line with your elegantly worded post, where in the fuck do you get your information from?? You're regurgitating talking points from FoxNews and Trumps twitter rants. You are obviously passionate in your stance, but your are basing those opinions on half truths and lack of understanding of foreign trade and plain lies.
Canada has something called "supply management"… you neglected to mention this in your rant, and since it is right dead centre in the Trump's milk fetish, your understanding of this dispute needs some improvement. Here's a primer since you obviously don't care to research things yourself (ie: google):
Canada allows US dairy imports. Canada has a quota system in place to allow Canadian farmers and US farmers and Mexican farmers access to our market. But Canada is unique in that they are protecting their comparatively tiny dairy farming industry from being overrun by the massive and surplus producing US dairy. There is a quota in which Canada dairy market is not producing or importing more than is necessary for the market. Hence the name "Supply Management"
US dairy is free to send their white gold north, UP TO A LIMIT. If they want to sell above their quota, they get the 241-270% tariffs (paid for by the Canadian importers). Trump wants to dump his industry's surplus north of the border without limits. Basically destroying Canada's tiny dairy industry. FUCK HIM and fuck his stupidity.
Why does the US has such a high surplus? well, you see, there was another trade agreement that the US dairy farmers were set to hugely benefit from...the Trans Pacific Partnership. Dumbass Trump pulled out, screwing his own milk farmers from a bigger slice of the Canadian market. So now that slice is going to other nations, and they are in-turn giving more access to their markets for Canadian dairy.
He made his dumbass decision to pull out of one of the largest multi-lateral trade agreements and expected these countries to agree to the exact same terms one-on-one? morons. The TPP was designed to exclude China and give Asian countries a viable trading partnership with western alliances. Instead he's basically propped up China's economy, creating lucrative trade agreements between the Asian countries and the Chinese government. That was a dumbass move which created such a shitstorm that he's been spending almost his entire presidency trying to fix (one-on-one, of course)...here's something you also missed. its a biggy too:
US dairy exports last yr were about C$296 million to Canada; Canadian producers sold C$148.1 million in dairy to the US. That's almost a 2-to-1 U.S. trade surplus on dairy. So GFU with the bullshit 270% tariff crap. Get your facts straight. Here's a link to an article published by the Wisconsin dairy farmers (just in case you want to claim that my info came from Canadian propaganda, try again):

North American FREE TRADE Agreement.
Canada flooded the US with soft wood and the US tried to prevent it by placing tarrifs on it. Canada sued and, like always, the US lost. Protectionism, according to the special NAFTA court, isn't allowed under NAFTA. Clearly this only applies to the US.
YES, the US can't do what Canada can do; enact tarrifs to protect it's own.
NAFTA allowed shitty tracks from Mexico to come into the US, even though they don't meet US safety regulations. I knwo this because I lived in Houston at the time and saw this happening and the problems it caused.
Trudeau was against raising working standards for Mexicans.
-
I just got a chance to read your link.
Canada's dairy protectionism is outside of NAFTA. So it was a shit deal for the US.
You aren't being fully honest.
Trump's stance is that we either have unilateral protectionism or none at all. Canada doesn't get special rights.
-
Trudeau is demanding a bunch of special exemptions for Canada, that he doesn't want the US to have as well.
I hope Trump tells him to go fuck himself.

In 50 years, we are all going to learn that it was Ivanka.
