Civility Poll
-
This is really a dumb poll. Quit being crybabies. Just because someone doesn't agree with you and thinks your stupid doesn't mean they're uncivil. Have you ever seen a movie with the young Padawan or the young apprentice who's wiser counterpart didn't test him? You just want everyone to agree with you and pet you like a princess. It's not real. That's not how life works.
This has nothing to do with getting people to agree with each other 100% of the time, it's about getting people to defend their arguments without childishness and flaming posts. What you just posted is a perfect example of that mhorndisk. No, we are not crybabies. I have agreed with others on here who do not share my views on a lot of issues and of course I've also disagreed with them; but lately I have been mindful of how I disagree with them. After realizing NO ONE in this forum was getting anywhere by constant name calling and irrational bickering, I decided to call for more civility; not a call for everyone to agree with me. We can agree and disagree with each other without being uncivil. The constant name calling on both sides has to end and if you're not willing to do that, then you are a part of the problem. Why can't you form an argument without deflection and childishness? We are adults mhorndisk, not middle school children.

I hate having to say this again, but this isn't going to work if we continue to come at each other assuming bad intentions every single time we reply to one another. We all need to pitch in and make at least a tiny effort to bring more civility to this forum, and we can start by not automatically assuming the absolute worst about one another. I did not create this thread to "get everyone to agree with me." One reason why I created this thread is because everyone on this site, including the ones who do not participate in this forum, know for a fact that this forum is toxic and needs a turnaround so that more people will want to participate. You're lying to yourself if you believe this forum has been effective at anything other than being petty and as uncivil as possible at times.

Actually, all the complaints have come from liberals wanting to ban "wrong thinkers", such as myself. They want a bike lock liberal echo chamber.
Not surprisingly, most of the complaints about this section are from people who freely admit they have never read anything posted here. They are only complaining based on the titles of the threads and deeming it a white supremacist haven.

That bike-lock liberal thing is getting old, don't you think? What if I referred to all of you as Ferguson whites?

Go ahead, thanks to Obama's pathetic attempt at race baiting the issue, we found out Ferguson is no where as bad as claimed.
100 FBI agents and 20,000 pages of reports showed the only lie came from blacks who claimed "hands up, don't shoot" and Michael Brown dindu nuffin.

I will complememt you on your civility, but you have your facts all wrong. Spintendo, in another thread, referenced the DOJ report of policing practices in Ferguson. Since I suspect you haven't read it and probably won't, here's a look at its table of contents:

Michael Brown was a "clean kill". The FBI proved this.
While I haven't finished the whole report, what I have read doesn't make Ferguson any different than any other police department.
The report also ignores factors that influence actions by the PD, courts and city.

dindu nuffin.
Was this really necessary, raphjd? I hope you're not suggesting every black person speaks this way because I do not and I don't know anyone who does. Please reconsider these kinds of actions in your future responses. I'm all for free speech, you know this, but that was clearly in poor taste.

Just to be clear, are you saying the phrase "dindu nuffin" is inherently racist?

Yes.

Aside from being busy with work lately, it's become apparent to me that there's very little interest in meeting at some sort of middle ground specially with some of those active posters here.
I well and truly applaud your attempts at civility royal- however it's apparent to anyone who takes the time to read responses here just which posters aren't interested in civil discourse and just want to toss insults around to puff up their lack of substance.
Also- I find it very suspicious how the manipulation of forum reputation has gone in a very one-sided direction- quite the opposite of what people upvote and downvote. Maybe there's something to look into there, I'll leave it to admin like raph to look into.More power to you royal, and those of you who still continue to engage in a more or less civil manner. Maybe when I've got more time I'll engage here again. Pax! ;D

Reputation and post voting are both being manipulated.
Liberals have been using the down vote against their enemies for quite a while now. They do not care what is said, they look for the name of the poster and down vote it.
The conservatives pretty recently started doing reputation manipulation.

Maybe we should just get rid of both voting and reputation. They seem to just add to the toxicity of the forum rather than anything positive.

Ok, I'll play.
Are you saying that anyone who uses "cash me ou'side" is anti white racist and anti women? I bet not.

Yeah, I'm probably going to be spending less time on here as well. It is VERY obvious who is willing to be more civil and who isn't at this point. Raphjd still deflects every now and then but he's not spamming like some of the others still are and he has been enforcing the main rules pretty fairly. At least we can say we tried to change the course of this forum so that everyone, regardless of party/ideological affiliation, can support their views and defend their arguments in a civil manner. It was never about shaming people or taking sides, it truly was just about supporting your views and defending your arguments without the constant childishness, flaming and spamming. It may change but if not, like I said, at least an effort was made. I feel good about making that effort too

When you guys don't get your way, you always play victim. That's what all these super sad posts are projecting. You didn't have any criticism of Kathy Griffin when she was promoting violence, not even when she got fired! You're not PRO-civility. Not even a little bit. You're terrible actors and we're not falling for it.

My call for civility was genuine and I called for a change on behalf of EVERYONE, including myself. I admitted that I was a part of the problem many times in this thread. I did criticize Kathy Griffin for what she did, as did many others who support the left on here did. We also supported the fact that she was FIRED for what she did. The fact is, I'm one of the only people on the left here who constantly calls out the left's violence that the media won't call out. I praised a Wisconsin Republican bill aimed at curbing that violence on college campuses. You have no idea what you are talking about mhorndisk. You're the one constantly posting spam on here. You're the one writing 7 replies to yourself in a row and making multiple threads about the same exact topic. You're also the one that has been warned because of your disgusting language. So tell me again, which one of us is pro-civility and which one isn't?
-
Saying that Kathy Griffin was not criticized on this board or anywhere else simply is not true. She was almost universally called out for it. She apologized. Nonetheless, even CNN fired her from their New Year's Eve show, and she lost most of he comedy bookings. It was clearly a mistake. We are not afraid to say it. When has mhorndisk admitted that he or one of his heroes is wrong? He still clings to birtherism and throwing Hillary in jail. He rejects out of hand the report by the FBI, NSA and CIA that Russia meddled in our election. But this thread was not about this issue at all, it was about being civil to each other.
-
Hmm, I wonder who the three users are who would rather be uncivil than make an attempt to stop the childish name calling and constant deflection/derailment. Who could those three users be? :blind:
Either way, I'm ending my call for more civility because it's clear at this point this forum is beyond repair unless another moderator is appointed or more rules are made. It was a one-sided effort this whole time and while that's sad, it's opened my eyes. The president isn't the only person who has shown his true colors recently.

I never cast a vote in your poll which offered no intelligent answer.
I see that you are making your own mini ultimatum by saying either this group must go or the moderator must go. I think I will post my OWN poll.
