Coffee in Croatia (in general) is 1.5$ :cool2: But there are shops that have for 1$.
Really neat thread hope someone will update it a little to see what else can be bought. ;D ;D ;D -
$1 is approx. 25 Kc (Czech Crowns)
That gets you a lot of stuff. Here are some prices:
Bottled mineral water: 7 Kc
Small baguette: 1-2 Kc
Chocolate bar: 5-15 Kc (depending on the brand)
Bag of chips: 10 Kc
Beer (.5 liter glass): 15-25 Kc
Beer (bottle): 8-10 Kc
Soft drink (.5 liter): 10 Kc
and many more… -
_**I think Spencer Althouse got it wrong, when it comes to what $ 1 can get you in the Philippines
The pix show Cheez Whiz 450 g
The Php SRP of that grams is Php 140.00 or if you converted it into dollar, roughly $ 2.97**_

$1 = R13.80 (South African Rand)
I can get a 30cm Plastic Ruler to measure … ;D

McDonalds in Australia do not call them slushies - although they are identical to what a slushie is
They look different, they are served in clear plastic large cups with domes, and are called "Frozen Coke" and there is like 3 flavours - you can get Frozen Spiders too which is the sundae whip on top
https://mcdonalds.com.au/menu/frozen-coke
There is a price war amongst the fast food restaurants - and i think it is down to $1.00… its basically flavoured ice, like a slushie
-
Very cool - In istanbul you can get a bowl of lentil soup for around $1 and its delish
-
1 Big taco in México.
-
very witty idea

Not gonna lie: coconut chips from Nigeria sound both intriguing and delicious.

$1 is £0.72 in England
That would buy you little or nothing in a café or from a street food stall. But a quick look on a leading grocery store website shows:
6 pack of tomatoes - grown under glass and tasteless
1kg of bananas
800g store brand white sliced bread
6-pack of Kingsmill crumpets
Litre of store brand orange juice (with or without 'bits'!)
1kg of white English sugar (made from East Anglian beets)
454g pot of store brand jam or marmalade -
Very nice post! Thank you for sharing! I am always surprised about how some things are unbelievably cheap in some countries and absolutely overpriced in others..

Here in midtown Manhattan, at a convenience store, $1 gets you a very small candy bar, for example. A cup of fruit yogurt? Not for a dollar.
A cup of coffee, no matter how small, is a rare find for a dollar. Maybe at a sidewalk food cart, where you could also get an apple or banana – but probably not both, unless it was midnight and you got a "deal."
It's a pretty small list!

Today, was clear of the Midtown/Broadway rip-off zone, and was relieved to see a Trader Joe's mega-special on bananas for 19 cents each.
Peaches went from 79 cents to $1.29 each, so you could have certain varieties.
Even some McDonald's franchises in Manhattan don't participate in the "Dollar Menu" promotion, but then again, is it really food? :afr:

So if you are broke it looks like in Hungary you can still be a decent wino.
