RE: Metal fans?
I first was introduced to metal by Guitar Hero, and then started listening to Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, System of a Down and the like from there. I still love all of them, and have started listening to other metal bands like Gorgoroth, Animals as Leaders, Tool, Weekend Nachos, and Harms Way.
thats really cool man! and hey animals as leaders are like my fangirl project at the moment –- LOVE them!!!

RE: Metal fans?
Growing up gay in Texas you learn a healthy skepticism for society. When I was younger Metal was the only outlet for those feelings. Metal is a genre of music that says "you are right - the priest, the mayor, the police chief, the governor, everyone: they're all wrong." From Metallica to Mayhem to Meshuggah I've always been a metal fan and the drive that music gives you helped me persevere through tough times.
i couldnt agree with you more, metal makes life just that bit more bearable and in that sense its a lifesaver bro! keep jamming man!

RE: Metal fans?
I came of age in the late 90's/early-00's. This meant being exposed a lot of mostly terrible "alternative" metal music as a kid. I was really into that stuff from around ages 8-13, until I started getting exposed to better things. I've gone through a number of phases over the years, so I've developed a taste for just about every kind of metal (and music in general).
I can probably come up with at least one or two groups I enjoy in any metal sub-genre you can think of. That's not intended as a boast, only to illustrate my point when I say I like "a little bit of everything". I guess my favorite metal sub-genres are those rooted in extreme thrash, though. I also really like old school grindcore, but I don't think of it as a metal genre per se.
As far as extreme metal and hardcore are concerned, I cut my teeth on the old Earache Records roster from before that label turned completely to shit.
And yes, Judas Priest counts. I'm almost afraid to ask if you were joking!
omg yeah earache in the old days was great! i also cut my teeth on alternative music in the 90s and eventually got onto the really heavy stuff! wow yeah man the memories!! xx

RE: Metal fans?
i like the rather melodic (and weirdly often christian?) stuff - like parkway drive, august burns red and the ghost inside, but not sure what genre they'd fall under? lol.
I don't think religion makes a difference, i mean if it has that groove then its metal! good choices btw!
