    • RE: An homophobic islamist paid by the french goverment to honor Verdun memorial

      Big trouble in France? Really?
I'm french, and I don't give a rat's ass about this story because it is as relevant to news as the Queen of England farting in style (i.e. it's not news at all). The Republic has a bad habit of glorifying the wars it fought while altogether forgetting the false pretenses under which it fought them. What you're saying is a load of bull : in France, last time I checked (oh, right I actually live there!) the rule of law still applied, so it's pretty easy.

–> Saying he shouldn't be there because he's black IS a racist statement, punishable by law.
--> Raping a woman is also punishable by law (if you ask me, judges are usually too lenient with rapers but that's a different matter).
--> A big disagreement in the french population? Reality : a small minority of misinformed idiots actually cares (mainly the far-right low-information conspiracy-theory-prone kind), a lot more people actually care about the government trying to destroy workers' protection these days.
--> A rapper said something homophobic? Let him be a dick, homophobic dimwits have already lost that war anyway.
--> Nothing on how the far-right happily manipulated a bunch of mainstream media into giving echo to that story? Who was on news channels all day long talking about this stupid story that no one cared about? The fascists dumbasses of the Front National, and no one else!
--> The government is paying/not paying for the event ... yeah, when you organize a birthday party (for yourself, in this case), you usually pay for it.

That pretty much sums it up. Now, as they say on RT : "Now, you're up to date".
Now comes the truly difficult part, something the 24-hr news cycle never allows : asking the right questions, and trying to answer them.
The 1st one being of course : How come no one ever asks the right questions about the Verdun commemorations anyway?

How come there's never anyone to point out that WWI was, in addition to being the 1st industrial butchery, one of the stupidest wars ever?
How come no one ever points out that "the war to end all wars" didn't actually solve any problem?
How come there's never anyone to point out the hundreds of thousands of young men actually died in vain, accomplishing absolutely nothing in a futile war that was, by any standard, pretty badly run anyway?

And that's only a few of them ...
So, now, in the following days, please try to get your facts right before spewing nonsense online about a country you apparently know nothing about. Thanks.

    • The New York Times in Trump times

      Hi everyone,

For context, I'll just say that I like newspapers … a lot. I find them to be usually a tad more reliable than TV or, at the very least, I find it easier to see through their biases to get to the bottom of things.

I've also been following the US primary season avidly (I'm no US citizen, but since US political influence goes well beyond the US, I feel it does have something to do with me). I try to follow most elections all over the world because they're one of these rare moments when people are asked to say something collectively (weather they're actually heard is an altogether different matter :cheesy2:)

So to the point : Trump, the now presumptive GOP nominee, called the New York Times and many of its journalists many things (failed, failing, inaccurate etc ...) because he doesn't like the way the paper covers his campaign.
The question is : is the NYT really failing? Any numbers? High profile criticisms?
And is anything of what Trump says about the NYT covering him actually true?
Any general comments from NYT readers welcome (or any other US newspapers) 😛

      Thanks a lot guys! 😄

PS : Any access to the NYT?  >:D

    • RE: 30 percent of males are gay? is it true?

I think it's a bit over the top, but there's a lot of closeted gays that's for sure 😉
