I like open world games both single and multi player but not MMO. Doesn't really matter if RPG, shooting, action or whatever, as long as your gameplay is not forced into one direction. Multi player Coop is a +, especially if supports LAN.

I need to make a distinction between single and multi player because the gameplay is just too different to compare.

Single player would be The Elders Scroll V: Skyrim. Can you believe I am still playing some of his mods? It is incredible!

Multi Player would be Borderlands, the first one. I find that 2K ruined Borderlands 2 with the "chest" and SHIFT codes, making looting futile and not worthy. With Borderlands 1 I would do loot run in the armory or Crawmerax just for the rare loot, but you cannot get it anymore in Borderlands 2 unless you use the chest, which is hackable. Also, Borderlands 2 story is kinda lame and too much elemental effects, sometime I just go blind!
