Boy Tested for STDs After Finding Condom in Hotel Room
(Aug. 26) – A 4-year-old boy was being tested for sexually transmitted diseases after he found a used condom in an Atlanta hotel room and tried to blow it up, thinking it was a balloon, his family said.
The boy found the condom in the sheets of a bed in the hotel where his family was staying, according to his grandmother Carmen Jones.
"He had his tongue in it," Jones said in a statement released by her lawyers. "I immediately took it out of his mouth."
The boy sickened and developed sores on his tongue not long after, Jones said. She took him to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta to have him tested for sexually transmitted diseases, including herpes and HIV, a local CBS affiliate reported.
He had "little white blisters all on the top of his mouth, on his tongue, inside the mouth, inside the lip, the bottom lip. It was all over," Jones told the CBS affiliate.
Several members of the Jones family who live in Alpharetta, Ga., were staying at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in downtown Atlanta after a visit to Six Flags Over Georgia on July 31.
Jones said she was exhausted when she checked in but the next morning she noticed that the room had not been cleaned after the previous occupants left. She put a call into reception to complain. Then, when she was in the bathroom, she heard a scream, according to the statement from her lawyers.
When she came out, she says she saw her grandson with the condom in his mouth. She took it from him and was horrified to see it contained semen.
According to the statement, she then called hotel management and asked for alcohol and mouthwash for her grandson. The hotel manager came to the room, put on latex gloves and took the condom from her, citing "company policy."
The family is awaiting the results of blood tests. Jones and the boy's father fear the youngster "will suffer serious health problems from this incident," according to the statement.
Jones has since filed a report with the Atlanta Police Department and the family engaged lawyers to negotiate a settlement with the hotel. If no settlement is reached, the lawyer plans to file suit.
Wyndham Hotels said it was "disturbed to learn of the allegations," but that the hotel in question was individually owned and operated. It has been sold since the incident occurred, the hotel chain said.
"We would regret any such incident that may have occurred at any of our hotel locations," Evy Apostolatos, a spokeswoman for Wyndham Hotel Group, said in an e-mail to AOL News. "Because the incident is currently under investigation by authorities, we can offer no comment on this matter at this time."
AOL News was unable to find contact information for the previous franchise owner.

Former Bush official says he is gay
Former RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman has told The Atlantic he is gay.
(CNN) – Former chairman of the Republican National Committee and 2004 campaign manager for President Bush's re-election, Ken Mehlman, has told The Atlantic magazine he is gay.
The article published Wednesday by The Atlantic's politics editor Marc Ambinder quotes Mehlman extensively on his experience coming out to friends and family.
"The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago," the article quotes Mehlman as saying.
Mehlman goes on to tell Ambinder that now that he is in private life wants to be an advocate for gay marriage. He said he realized his timing – waiting until he was outside the inner power circles of the Republican Party – may have hurt the very issues he now hopes to address.
"I wish I was where I am today 20 years ago. The process of not being able to say who I am in public life was very difficult. No one else knew this except me. My family didn't know. My friends didn't know. Anyone who watched me knew I was a guy who was clearly uncomfortable with the topic," Mehlman told the publication.
Mehlman's announcement is being welcomed in the gay community.
"Poll after poll shows the most powerful thing we can do to change hearts and minds about gay issues is to come out. I applaud Ken for having the courage to take this important step. I think everyone should remember that each of us has our own personal journey as it relates to coming to terms with our own sexuality and coming out," conservative gay organization GOProud's Christopher Barron told CNN.

Neighbours may have overreacted, gay couple says
TORONTO, Ont. - A gay couple has spoken out after some of their neighbours thought a church group was targeting their home in the Dundas Street East and Greenwood Avenue area over the weekend because of their sexual orientation.
They said a video posted on YouTube distorts the truth (see video below).
The couple said the church members chose to read the Bible on the sidewalk in front of their house simply because there's a fire hydrant there, preventing any cars from parking in the spot.
The men said they've never felt personally targeted and have never heard anyone say anything homophobic, and suggested the neighbours who confronted the parishioners overreacted.
The neighbour who filmed the alleged confrontation now said he did not personally hear anything homophobic and just assumed they were attacking the same sex couple.
Neighbourhood comes together and kicks out religious haters.

So without further adieu, here are eight of the dirtiest (and funniest) sexual references from children's cartoons of the past.
