    • Slowness of Upload Approval

I have uploaded, probably, over 3,000 torrents to Pirate Bay, Empornium, Mini-Nova, etc., because uploading to those sites is near instant and downloads by those members are fast and furious.  While here I've tried many times to offer uploads only to find them stuck in the approval shute far too long.  I pay an enormous amount of money for a static fast broadband up/download pipeline and to see it idle costs me money.  If I upload four "requested" torrents before going to bed then wake up eight hours later only to see those uploads are still "waiting for approval" I've lost a lot of time and wasted bandwidth.  And yes, I know I can use "auto-approval" but I shouldn't have to.  NO uploader should have to grovel to the host for approval.  The site is only as good as the product and if I can get that product up on Pirate Bay within minutes and see it being distributed to thousands then the desire to upload here and wait and wait and wait is lost.

Thus I pulled all four of my uploads this morning and I just won't bother to try again.  GayTorrent.ru must review their upload approval policy and act much faster if they want the site to remain viable and their members to stay true.  Uploaders have little to no incentive to support the site other then their desire to help other gay members and we can help other gay people through Pirate Bay, Empornium, Mini-Nova, etc., much faster and with more satisfaction.

    • How do you notify Mods of bad upload?

There should be a button to alert the moderators to a bad upload being offered.  I couldn't find one so if it is there, it must be hidden.

Angry Young Man - Manhandled Midshipman.torrent

      uploaded by:  dwest666

Who doesn't accept PMs (what's THAT all about?)

is offering a bad/corrupt download.  1/5th the way through all sound is lost and throughout the vid there is such bad digital snow you can't see the picture.  I downloaded the file twice from two different machines to make sure it wasn't just me and it is bad.  I lost a lot of ratio points and not pleased about it.  Would a moderator please contact dwest666 and have him check/pull the video so others don't waste their time?

      Thanks,

      John

    • Pirate Bay Stopped - How Safe GayTorrent?

I had over 5,000 gay torrents on PB - many of GT's members downloaded and made new torrents here.  I receive a majority directly from gay adult producers with their blessing as it results in free publicity for their sites.  When I go through the GayTorrent.ru directories I see many torrents that came directly from me via PB.  Now, without PB the gay community's access to gay male torrents is even more limited.  Makes a big difference when you upload a gay torrent to PB and see 100 leechers per hour and thousands of downloads over a short period.

Don't get me wrong, I love GayTorrent.ru - there is no other site with such a varied library, but the movie industry is putting tremendous pressure on The Netherlands, Sweden, England and much of Europe to close down all torrent sites including adult sites.  Gay people are not loved despite what the most ardent fans believe.

My displeasure of uploading my gay torrents here had to do with review and lag time, difficulty with moderators.  There was none of that with PB.  Torrents go up nearly instantly and if the torrent wasn't wanted it was simply removed by a moderator, no "here, is this okay?" and "when are you going to put it up?" kinds of things.  I pay a lot of money for a very highspeed upload pipeline to ensure my torrents are fed quickly and efficiently. I have uploaded to the predominately hetero adult torrent sites ( Puretna, Pussy Torrents, PornBits, Bootytorrents, Sexybits, XXXTorrents, Torrent69, AdultTorrent, NuTorrents, etc) but many of thse sites pay lipservice to gay male adult material - altho they love lesbian torrents, even offer full directories but gay male stuff?  Not so much.  What is sadder is that few gay men visit those sites to pick up the gay torrents so they end up dying a slow death.

Questions:  How safe is GayTorrent.ru now that the largest Torrent site is out of commission?  How safe is my static IP and my personal information?  How safe are GT.ru's logs?  How safe is the (sole) tracker?

    • RE: Upload Rewards?

      @F00F:

I just hope that there's no blood. :-l

I have a fine ratio and regularly support this site by staying connected and helping to seed other uploads. I also support this site with uploads directly to members for reposting to this site in an effort to improve their own ratios. When I look through the directories I see a great many of my files uploaded by friends I've made here and supplied directly through FTP methods. Perhaps raphjd is frustrated because I no longer donate cash in support of this website. I donate to other websites because I want to see them flourish and respect their efforts.

This is a private site benefiting those who run it, not the supporters per se much less the uploaders. Without uploaded product they don't have much to offer. I see many members have moved on to other more popular and friendlier gay torrent websites.

My question has been answered. Uploaders are not rewarded directly for their efforts other then the self-satisfaction of giving to others. I will spread the good word.

    • RE: Upload Rewards?

Again, on private sites you don't do it for the "love of it" unless you are a newbie, retired with nothing to do and uploading is your greatest thrill in life or because you see yourself as a benevolent person. You do it because you want to reach a targeted audience, in this case the gay computer user.

Put it on a public site - which reaches a much wider audience - and you will reach any user finding your upload. There you do it for "the love of it" or the thrill of seeing your offering being spread around the world. You expect people to hit and run.

It would behoove private sites to say to the uploader, "Bring your file here, seed it successfully, and we'll bestow an additional set of points on you to encourage a steady stream of files being made available and making our site the most popular.

Uploaders have to weigh the options. Public or private - which one is the more beneficial.

    • RE: Upload Rewards?

If I were after money I'd slap a "pay for it" password and RAR it up. Uploaders spend a lot of time putting a file together, ensuring it is of the best quality and that it will play properly with audio insync, restricting their own systems to ensure it gets seeded, denying themselves downloads to keep bandwidth available, and much time and effort. This isn't a public site. The tracker has to comply with this site and this site alone. If found elsewhere a potential downloader must come here, register and be concerned with potential security risks and possible legal liability if site records are hacked or comfiscated by authorities.

If this were a public site there would be far less concern with quality, time, effort, audio syncing. Torrents are offered more for benevolent reasons.

Times have changed. Private sites tend to dominate today and site owners are benefiting through donations, advertising, email harvesting, and more. Those who provide the actual product see a return of "thanks" and little more - they are left at the level of the non-uploader and required to meet the same share ratio. They watch as their file/product is snatched by a mob and seeded by just a handful.

The more successful private sites are beginning to realize this and are offering incentives and rewards to those who take the time to provide the actual end product. Those sites are getting the better product, the higher quality video and a supporting customer base whose customers/clients don't grab and run but help to keep the site luscious with ongoing seeding.

I have library of over 3,000 films. I can give them away on the public sites if I had unlimited bandwidth, time and effort. I'd rather see my uploads go to targeted groups who would get the most enjoyment from them but as an uploader (and I'm sure other uploaders would agree) I'd like to see a little more incentives offered once a product is seeded and of demand.

I just spent three days restricting my 'Net activity to ensure one high quality "very much wanted" video got seeded only to see it grabbed with gusto hundreds of times and left with few downloaders willing to seed it back.

What incentive do I have to do this again?

    • Moving Torrents

**Per one of the moderators today, I violated the uploading rules by offering 2 uploads instead of 1. This was done because the video consisted of Parts A & B. I set aside 50kbs of uploading bandwidth to ensure fast seeding and fast downloads. These two files were well seeded and 40-50 people were downloading them individually. Each file had at least 800 views which meant plenty of current and future download interest.

To placate the moderator I have deleted the torrents and moved them to a more hospital gay torrent site. If you are one of the downloaders and now find the file you downloaded removed, incomplete and no longer available here at GT, please PM me and I will point you in the direction of the other gay torrent site so you can, at least, complete the download.

I promise not to offer any more torrents here at GT.

    • RE: Crappy upstream

      @cjkline83:

Before I sold my original modem (I think it was a Surfboard 4800), I successfully uncapped my modem from 30kbps all the way up to 256kbps. It was awesome. My ISP is a small, po-dunk cable ISP, and I ran uncapped for two years, before I moved away to college, and sold my modem to a classmate since I had DSL at my apartment.

How I wish I still had that modem. 😕

The 5100 however, seems pretty well locked down. :-l

Even if you had that modem I doubt that you could uncap your upload stream. Here's why: Cable ISPs 'cap' or limit speed for a number of reasons. First of all, such caps make it easier for cable modem ISPs to distribute bandwidth among users. The upload cap in particular is intended to discourage users to run big servers. In general, these caps are also put in place to make the system more robust. At slower speeds, packet loss is usually lower and the system can handle worse signal quality.

So how do I uncap your modem? You don't. The speed limit is enforced at the head end. Short of hacking into the head end computer there is no way you could increase this limit yourself. Some cable modems may have serial ports or other ways to change various settings. However, in order for the upload/download speed to change, you will have to reboot the modem after making that change. The problem is, that as soon as you reboot the modem, them modem will contact the head end computer to authenticate itself and it will download the latest settings, including speed limits.

We all have the same complaint about uploading and ratio requirements. For the restrictions noted above, it would be to the betterment of the website if the administrator would offer a less restrictive ratio requirement policy - but I don't see that happening here. To (temporarily) increase your ratio numbers here you can push the donate button - which, of course, is why the current ratio quotas are in effect.
