    • RE: How do they know - drugs crossing the southern border

I don't see this questioning of the DEA chief by Cruz as damning or substantial. Whose responsibility is for the drugs and whose is it for border crossings. It seems the DEA Chief has stated what the DEA's report is on drug trafficking at the border, but whenever the migrant issue is brought up she defers to the Department of Homeland Security. If it's not her jurisdiction, I can understand not making a comment on the DHS's behalf. This video also has nothing to do with some dispute about whether there's some attempt to mislead the amount of drugs entering the US with semantics.

Can someone link to this "might as well be 50% of border officers cut" that Cruz asserts is happening under Biden? I can't find it. If we're arguing about semantics, if I see 50% border officers REASSIGNED to keep up with increasing number of detainments and not just straight up terminated, I would say Ted Cruz is being incredibly disingenuous.

Looks like Biden sent 1500 Troops to support the border to "in mostly administrative and transport roles to free up law enforcement and Border Patrol" that doesn't sound like Biden is just opening borders unchecked.
      https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-administration-considers-sending-1500-us-troops-border-ahead-lifting-title-42-sources

Can you substantiate this "By lax border patrols and policies, I'm talking about border patrol officers spending more time away from the border and more time with those caught and in custody."

It feels like the articles I'm finding state that the Biden admin has increase funding to the border patrol, sent troops to support the border staff, apprehended and expelled more migrants each year, the semantic issue of whether someone is lying by omission is incredibly weak, and I take issue with this feeling I have of you making assertions but not properly substantiating them, for now I'm not going to continue this conversation if I have to be the one to cite my own findings to support my claim and also be the one to cite your findings that I find dubious in their relevance. I would never make a claim, not attach any caveats, not source exactly what I'm referring to and just "run with it". I said at the start I wasn't going to research this which I ended up doing a little of it anyway but I specifically wanted to prompt you to show me your homework which I don't see here.

With the amount of investment I personally have in this, I can click on an article or two but I simply don't have the time to find a line amongst a hearing recording is what I'm saying.

By lax border patrols and policies, I'm talking about border patrol officers spending more time away from the border and more time with those caught and in custody.

I feel like you are saying, Biden's admin is screwing up by having more drugs slip through the border because border patrol officers spending more time away from the border and more time with those caught and in custody.

When I see this graph https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/southwest-land-border-encounters
Number of Apprehensions and Expulsions at the US Border Patrol Southwest
      2021: 1,734,686
      2022: 2,378,944
      2023: 2,475,669

Looks like more people are being processed by Border Patrol every year, id say significantly so since the start of the Biden admin, I assume that means people caught, in custody and expelled. Are you saying, the reassgnment of border patrol officers to people in custody isn't justified by the increase in Apprehensions and Expulsions?

Ohh, I see what you mean. Okay so, I'm going to have faith that the answer is in what these articles source that 90% from https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/drug-seizure-statistics
and that's just the dogshit organisation of this site that stopping me from finding that number. If anyone can chime in and find it, by all means.

They almost never say "caught" but simply say "entering".
What would sway me is I would need to go through this Committee hearing, see who is referencing "entering" and not "caught" i.e. seized and known. The word "entering" is unclear and could include unknown sources but in the context of this committee do they know what they're talking about, do they have reports in front of them such that even if they say "entering" the context is understood to be "what drugs are known to be entering the country".
Sure it's semantics, but I guess an analogy would be a medical hearing and someone says people "catching AIDS" and even though we all know, you don't catch AIDS, you catch HIV and then get AIDS, if everyone qualified in that hearing understands, they meant people catching HIV, I would be inclined to let that slide.

Even saying "caught" is quite dishonest since Biden has reduced border patrols so we have more gotaways than we should.

I need more context to see if this passes as "dishonest", like is Biden trying to show off, how much more fentanyl is being seized? I don't know what the common parlance is, is entering the usual term used across any administration? That's an important question if I want condemn specifically the Biden admin for it.

If we're gonna have this convo, you're gonna have to help me out and source me the claims cause I don't know what you're referencing to try and verify.

Biden has reduced border patrols so we have more gotaways than we should.

Where and how much, is the overall spending less than any other administration?
"Strengthening border security and providing safe, lawful pathways for migration remain top priorities for the Administration. The Budget includes nearly $25 billion for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an increase of almost $800 million over the 2023 enacted level when controlling for border management amounts. The Budget includes funds for CBP to hire an additional 350 Border Patrol Agents, $535 million for border security technology at and between ports of entry, $40 million to combat fentanyl trafficking and disrupt transnational criminal organizations, and funds to hire an additional 460 processing assistants at CBP and ICE." source: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/03/09/fact-sheet-president-bidens-budget-strengthens-border-security-enhances-legal-pathways-and-provides-resources-to-enforce-our-immigration-laws/

"The United States has in recent years spent more money on immigration enforcement than at any other point in history. For fiscal year (FY) 2024, the Biden administration has asked Congress for nearly $25 billion for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an increase of almost $800 million over the previous year and nearly equal to the entire gross domestic product (GDP) of Iceland." Source: https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/immigration-enforcement-spending-rising

Did he reduce border patrols recently, there's two pictures. He gutted border funding or he slightly reduced it but the overall spending is still ahead on this administration.

All good, I'm chill, thanks for the disclaimer.
I believe from a practicality point of view, unless you fund research into "okay, this is ACTUALLY how most drugs get into the country", that would assume, the government has none to little to some idea of what is currently possible. Maybe that research is done, and it's a matter of knowing that most drugs come through PoEs but that doesn't mean you can catch not even most of what's coming through.

Otherwise it's probably very difficult to action anything that you don't know about or are just plain guessing the amount on. How much government spending would you be able to pitch to the country if you don't have a solid range of how much unknown drugs are slippign through in whatever way it's done. Let's just pretend and say 70% of all drugs that we don't know about are coming in through drones. How much can you afford to spend on an anti drone drug mule taskforce on an uncertainty that these drones might not even exist?

I think they want us to believe that everything comes through the PoEs to justify the lax border security along 95% of the border.

I think there is a key detail i just noticed lack of border security where? You mean to Mexico? What I sourced was "Over 90 percent of fentanyl seizures occur at legal crossing points or interior vehicle checkpoints, not on illegal migration routes, so U.S. citizens (who are subject to less scrutiny) when crossing legally are the best smugglers." So where are these US citizens caught? Are they coming through Mexico or somewhere other location?

"The government exacerbated the problem by banning most legal cross border traffic in 2020 and 2021, accelerating a switch to fentanyl (the easiest‐to‐conceal drug).
During the travel restrictions, fentanyl seizures at ports quadrupled from fiscal year 2019 to 2021. Fentanyl went from a third of combined heroin and fentanyl seizures to over 90 percent.
Annual deaths from fentanyl nearly doubled from 2019 to 2021 after the government banned most travel (and asylum).
      " Source: https://www.cato.org/blog/fentanyl-smuggled-us-citizens-us-citizens-not-asylum-seekers

What do you mean by "lax" policy? If you mean limiting cross border traffic, looks like it in a way made things a lot worse in that a lot more people died from fentanyl. It looks like a better strategy needs to be considered. Do you mean lax as in they did nothing or they tried banning traffic but it got worse as a result?

I think these are pretty important questions to go dig around for if I was going to go deep into researching this topic so I get the whole picture.

Ok fine I'll do a little research, can I see what article you're referencing, if this is a mark on the Biden admin, where have they misrepresented the data they present on this. I'm assuming the statement you're disputing is "Over 90 percent of fentanyl seizures occur at legal crossing points or interior vehicle checkpoints, not on illegal migration routes" Source: https://www.cato.org/blog/fentanyl-smuggled-us-citizens-us-citizens-not-asylum-seekerss and https://www.brookings.edu/articles/addressing-mexicos-role-in-the-us-fentanyl-epidemic/
Both reference that claim as from https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/drug-seizure-statistics but I wasn't able to navigate the site properly to corroborate that with the data, where is the "source of seizure stat come from"

So whether or not this is true, if we have issue with the Biden admin on this, could it be shown if other administrations report it in a different way if this way is poor?

Oh, your main issue is this line right? >What I do dispute is how they "know" how much drugs come into the US that they don't catch.

Where is this claims that the Biden admin is reporting what they don't know. I'd want to know their wording. Otherwise, it seems they're just reporting on what they do know , which is what they've seized.

I'm not gonna do research but I'd be curious if there's a way to infer it, like track drug related deaths, there could be a way to see how that tracks with illegal drug availability
