    • RE: Category Definitions - Please Help - Bonus Rewards

      Themed Movies

I would first like to propose that physique studies be moved to the "softcore" category and be expanded to include films depicting the female and transsexual physique as a show of equality.  Currently, only films depicting the male physique may be posted.  This move could help solidify the definition of "Themed Movie"

Next, I would like to propose that the category be renamed "LGBTQ THEMED MOVIES".  The current name creates some confusion which leads some people to upload fetish films.

      My description submissions:

      1.  LGBTQ Themed Movies: Non-porn,  theatrical, feature-length or short films that include a significant plot line devoted to lesbian, gay, bisexual, questioning, or transsexual themes, characters, or both.  As stated in the current rules, openly gay actors/directors or secondary gay characters do not fulfill this requirement.  Always review the banned material list before uploading.

      2. Films that focus primarily on the male physique such as wrestling, bodybuilding, swimwear modeling, or underwear modeling may also be posted in this category.  Always review the banned material list before uploading.

      :thankyou:

    • RE: LGBTQ Movie Data Bases & Review Sites?

Gaycelluloid is a great resource already mentioned.  I would like to recommend the book (in PDF or e-book) form, The Bent Lens: A World Guide to Gay & Lesbian Film.  You can find it on the pirate bay.  I have also seen it on other torrenting sites.

The book breaks movies into Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Fringe as well as an A to Z listing.

    • In your opinion, how much LGBTQ content qualifies as LGBTQ Themed Movie?

What is your opinion?  How much lgbtq content makes a movie lgbtq themed?  What movie have you seen that claimed to be lbgtq themed and wasn't.  What movie have you seen that wasn't listed as lgbtq themed that you thought should be?  Here are some examples to get you thinking:

      Example 1:  Name / Shem (2004)
Lead character identifies himself as gay.  None of the plot is devoted to his being gay, only his experiences while searching for his grandfather's grave.  No time devoted to gay plot.

Example 2:  Goltzius and the Pelican Company (2012)
Character(s) are identified as gay, but no time is devoted to them.  However, you do see some penises.  Basically, no time devoted to gay plot, but shows penis.

      Example 3:  Flyfishing (2002)
All characters are straight.  One character admits to suddenly developing feeling for another, and gets punched out.  The "gag" is repeated towards the end of the movie.  About 4 minutes devoted to
          gay plot point / gay-bashing.

Example 4:  Bright Young Things (2003)
Four story-lines with one being about a gay couple and the problems they face in Edwardian England.  Each story-line receives an even share of time, approximately 1/4th of the movie.

Example 5:  The Perfect Wedding (2012)
A straight woman is planning her wedding with the help of her gay brother.  The film is evenly split between the straight wedding and the budding, gay-romance of the brother.

Example 6:  Like It Is (1998)
Entire movie is devoted to story of a repressed homosexual coming to terms with being gay and falling in love.

      Example 7:  I Don't Kiss / J'embrasse pas(1991)
A straight man falls in love with a straight woman.  He works as a gay prostitute, but nothing is shown other than the initial meeting between him and a client.  She is also a prostitute.  The movie
spends 90% of the time on him trying to get her away from her pimp.

Example 8:  The King of Escape / Le roi de l'évasion (2009)
A 40+ year old man identifies as gay.  He meets a young girl, and they run away together.  The movie is devoted to the couple having sex and running from her father and the authorities.

Again, what is your opinion?  How much lgbtq content makes a movie lgbtq themed?  What movie have you seen that claimed to be lgbtq themed and wasn't.  What movie have you seen that wasn't listed as lgbtq themed that you thought should be?  Don't limit yourself to the examples.  Don't limit yourself to this site either.  If you walked into Barnes and Noble or signed in to Amazon.com, what would you expect to find in a lgbtq section.  Thank you for your answers.

    • RE: Posting of "Her" (2013) is Offensive

      Dear Ajax,

After I was told "Sordid Lives" would remain on GTRU.  I dropped that issues.  I disagree with the decision as lgbt cult-film status is arbitrary where "lgbt characters and plot" is not.  "Steel Magnolias" is a lgbt cult film, but has no lgbt characters or plot (aside from the cameo by grandson).  Be that as it may, my involvement ended.

As for my motivations, there are only two:  ratio and fairness.

I consider ratio to be currency just like cash.  When I upload a lgbt themed film, I earn currency.  I can then go to the lgbt-themed-movie store and purchase downloads.  This lgbt-themed-movie store promises all non-porn material must have LGBTQ THEMED CONTENT (Plot / Characters) or involve VOYEURISM of the ADULT MALE PHYSIQUE . Gay-interest, an openly gay actor or minor gay characters are insufficient to meet this requirement.  When I open my purchases and find one is not lgbt themed as promised, I feel cheated.  To prevent others (including GTRU) from feeling/being cheated, I report the movies that fail the "lgbt characters and plot" test.  That's it.

As for fairness, I do not believe it is fair for someone to earn ratio by uploading inferior goods and passing them off as lgbt-themed-movies.  That is unfair to everyone who scours the internet and other sources for quality lgbt-themed-movie.  The most insipid are those with "homosexual overtones", as any film with two men as the major characters could fall under this cheap umbrella.

GTRU has the finest stock of gay-themed movies on the web.  Because of the strict policies people have to work hard to find lgbt-themed-movies to upload.  This work shows, because many of the films on GTRU cannot be found anywhere else.  I would like the site to stay that way:  the finest resource for lgbt-themed-films on the web.

    • RE: Posting of "Her" (2013) is Offensive

As a matter of fact, I did.  I reported it for "Major Studio" and "not lgbt themed".  I was informed of the change regarding major studios:  Production by Major Studio - banned; Distributed by Major Studio - okay.  I was also pointed to the description which says,

"YES, it is a movie with gay characters and also a suggestive theme. The director has spoken frequently about how the concept was spawned by how often ignorant bigots say things like "What's next, man marries dog?" in response to gay marriage. There are mostly lesbian overtones in character relationships but there is some suggestive gay situations as well."

The comments seem to disagree with this description.

I think the site has an excellent description of what constitutes "LGBT Themed Movies".  I don't understand why SOME who work here seem to be so willing to undermine it.

    • Posting of "Her" (2013) is Offensive

I just wanted to say that I find allowing "Her" (2013) to be posted on GTRU as an analogy to a gay-marriage theme to be offensive.  It is not the same, it bears no relevance, it's just another straight man in love with a "woman" he can't have.  RIDICULOUS!

Out of 50+ keywords on IMDB, not one mentions gay, lesbian, transsexual, or bisexual.

love, operating system, writer, divorce, lonely man, playing video game, best friend, loneliness, falling down, husband wife relationship, mustache, flashback sequence, masturbation, written by director, profanity, break up, manhole, f word, ex husband ex wife relationship, los angeles california, los angeles skyline, relationship problems, pronoun in title, rooftop, video game, one word title, awkwardness, jealousy, futuristic, train ride, beach, elevator, actress shares first name with character, sparkler, restaurant, panic, blind date, romance with artificial intelligence, produced by director, signing divorce papers, writing a letter, love letter, smoke rising from manhole, phone sex, sex talk, woman in lingerie, computer tablet, artificial intelligence, director cameo, surrogate, title spoken by character.

    • RE: Eliminating Duplicates

I just think 10% is too small a difference to matter.  If I were desperate, I could shave 10% off a file by shorting the credits, or pad the beginning and ending with blank screen.  Not that I have seen this done, I'm just making a point…badly....but nonetheless, 25% to 50% would be better.

In the example above, the files are not duplicates because the difference is greater than 10%, but is there really a significant difference in what is offered.  I think not.

    • Eliminating Duplicates

I would really like to see a broader interpretation of what constitutes a duplicate.  Right now, file sizes have to the same.  I would like this to change.  I think when all else is the same (subtitles, etc) two files should have to be at least 25% to 50% larger or be considered a duplicate.

How much difference can there be between two avi's of the same movie when on is 800MB and the other is 900MB?  Not much, but between 800MB and 1200MB there is a noticable difference.

      Thanks for reading.

      Example:

      To me, these are duplicates.

    • RE: Hardcoded, hard-coded or what?

On another point, do you really need to double your effort by putting things like:  Français (French).  To me, not seeing "English" is enough.  I think you should save yourself that time.

      Français | Deutsch (h), Português (s) | avi |

      Français | Deutsch (H), Português (S) | avi |    <–- I like the capital letters best, but lower-case involves fewer key-strokes.

That entry tells me there is no English...that's what I need to see.  With the (H) and (S) present, you can even leave out the commas.

      Français | Deutsch (H) Português (S) | avi |

For Dubbed, you could use (D)

      Français (D) | Deutsch (H) Português (S) | avi |

      Love you Popper!

    • RE: Hardcoded, hard-coded or what?

How about using "H" and "O" or "H" and "S"

      French | English H, Swedish O,

      French | English-H, Swedish-S,

      French | English (H), Swedish (S), German (S) |

I would like to add my two-cents worth.  I believe it is entirely appropriate for GTRU to remove any post that includes blood, especially when used as entertainment.  That would include dog-fighting, bear-baiting, MMA, wrestling, etc.  Of course, it is up to the users to report the matter.

Even just a hint of gay (or a penis) makes a movie okay!

    • RE: Comments Removed

Glad to know what happened.  From my point of view:  I had no idea with whom I was corresponding.  I believed the person was actually attacking my comment.  To me, I posted "not LGBT" and then "someone" responded with a verbal inducement "who said it was".  That put me on the defensive.  Sorry to use the rules to justify my actions, I had no better ammunition.  When I've seen a movie and know it doesn't match the declared content of the site, I get protective.  Perhaps overly so, but I don't want to see GTRU devolve into a pirate bay where the only lgbt content in a film is that the lighting assistant is openly gay.  Or in this case - one man touches another mans penis for two minutes in an hour and a half long movie.

Anyway, I'll try to cool it.

Another user and I were making comments about the LGBT themed merits of a film and the rules.  For some reason, all the comments except the first three were removed.  I would really appreciate knowing what I did wrong.  I believe the comments were appropriate and thoughtfully made.  Has anyone else had this happen?  Do you know why?  I thought we were free to make comments as long as they were not rude or inappropriate.

It's working much better now.  However, the comments are showing up in a black and white color scheme that burns the eyes  :cheesy2:.  The file list is still in the easy to read gray.  I hope the black and white is a mistake and it will soon revert to the soothing gray.  ;D

The problem still exists for me.  I'm using Chrome and IE.  If I move to title, files, or comments and hover, I get the endless wait spinner.  If I move the cursor but remain over the target I get the text cursor that kinda looks like |
