The U.S. Should Apologize to Gay People

LINK: THE U.S. SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO GAY PEOPLE
I find it sad that many of the more conservative members of the Forum are ignorant of the US's history vis a vis gay persecution and are gleefully advocating positions likely to trigger new witch hunts.
-
@hubrys Actually, the democrats - which are the party of the KKK - are by far the most racist. They love abortion, because while 17% of pregnancies of white women end in abortion, 66% of pregnancies of black women end in abortion. Democrats love that. In the matter of gay marriage, democrats were the ones fighting it, especially in California. Biden, Obama, Hillary.. they are all on youtube videos in anti gay marriage clips. It was not until the democrats found that they could exploit yet another minority group to get more votes that they suddenly flipped on gay marriage to the point of having a gay couple as president and first man (The Obamas). First USA President to run & get elected as pro-gay marriage: TRUMP.
(Obama only ever led from behind - so to speak. Obama campaigns were against gay marriage.)

While it was more "gay marriage ambivalent" than pro-gay marriage, I will admit that he was at least braver than a lot of politicians on both sides of the aisle in telling people to get over it and move on.
That being said, I wouldn't say that Trump is pro-gay people. I mean, within minutes of his administration taking office, nearly all pro-LGBT messaging was removed from government websites. Despite having said he would continue Obama's administration's protections for LGBT workers, his administration slowly and consistently destroyed them.

Trump believed in EQUAL rights, not SPECIAL rights.
-
@hubrys Wrong again! TRUMP stated he supports gay marriage, no qualifiers, & told GOP to get on board.
btw for those who read odds:

Lesley Stahl: One of the groups that's expressing fear are the LGBTQ group. You--
Donald Trump: And yet I mentioned them at the Republican National Convention. And--
Lesley Stahl: You did.
Donald Trump: Everybody said, "That was so great." I have been, you know, I've been-a supporter.
Lesley Stahl: Well, I guess the issue for them is marriage equality. Do you support marriage equality?
Donald Trump: It-- it's irrelevant because it was already settled. It's law. It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean it's done.
Lesley Stahl: So even if you appoint a judge that--
Donald Trump: It's done. It-- you have-- these cases have gone to the Supreme Court. They've been settled. And, I'm fine with that.

Saying "It's settled, move on" is hardly a ringing endorsement, especially when the SCOTUS justices appointed by him are champing at the bit to overturn Obergefell.
-
"It's settled, move on" is far more progressive than anyone before him, at that point, when running for President.
-
@raphjd True, but on that note, it does help that he's running after the SCOTUS decision was rendered. Those that came before him didn't have that luxury.
-
@hubrys omg u r full of it. "After SCOTUS" - means Obama LED FROM BEHIND.
Yes, we know Obama always led from behind - so to speak.
Meanwhile, Trump's pro-gay statements during 2016 campaign itself - seem memory-holed now, congratulations libs on your "1984" Internet management - but, libs knew it at the time & we may still have traces, here or there, of lib acknowledgement:
