prejudices in terms of male and female homosexuality
-
Currently in my country there is a lot of talk about eliminating prejudices between same-sex couples who exchange affection in public, but I believe that prejudices mainly concern male couples; for example, during a recent train trip of mine, two girls were sitting next to me, exchanging effusions with discretion: rightly, none of the other travelers had anything to object to that ... I wonder if they had behaved in the same way, if there had been two guys who shared the same effusions ... how is the situation in your country? Is this an attitude that exists only in Italy?

@fysmaran I believe that's everywhere, female homossexuality is way more accepted, granted depends on the girls too, I bet that more masculine women tend to suffer more prejudice.
But that's clear everywhere, you can see it in mainstream media like TV shows, Games, Movies, Etc... Most times when they have gay protagonists it's women, very rarely they have a gay male protagonist.

Lesbians have been accepted throughout history, while gays have been criminalized.
Africa and the Caribean are the only places I know of that don't fully accept lesbians. They have what they call "corrective rape".
-
@bear1515 Yes, I noticed .... as well as the fact that many positive characters in TV series and movies are female, while men are reserved the part of antagonists with negative characteristics ... it is not a coincidence that I haven't watched tv series or film for several months ...

it's true, but I wonder; for what reason? both lesbians and gays deviate from the norms of behavior considered normal, but receive different treatment ... maybe that male sexuality is considered more dangerous for society than female? Difficult question to answer

One can be fully out gay here in my country and hold hands with a guy or a lesbian with a girl. Though we are more westernized compared to other Asian countries, gay couples are never criticized here even though we are mainly 86% Christian population. this is true within the cities where ordinances exist that protect us.
Most people here who are gay act straight and prefers to keep it to themselves mainly to avoid gossips and uncalled for attention.
Prejudice against gays here are mostly found in schools especially if you are an activist or mostly unreported as there really is not compared to other countries.
Gay groups or movements exists and we have the media entertainment and large corporations spearheading in educating the public in our acceptance, diversity and inclusion.
This I say from my experience and view as I was born and lived throughout my life in the city but there really is not much of a difference from farther provinces.
This is also one of the main reasons why Boys Love exists and gaining more attention throughout Asia as producers are using it to educate future generations. Unlike Western gay series or movies or shorts, Boys Love series and movies are injected with lessons to instill understanding and acceptance for the young generation. Those that are shown on mainstream television are more tamed to be approved and appeal to younger viewers. Shows that have a more bolder version or aggressive approach are then shown on streaming platforms.

@Rotron glad that there is tolerance in the cities of your nation ... in countries where the majority of citizens profess monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) there is still a creeping intolerance towards male homosexuality, compared to female one .. perhaps because 'in these religions male homosexuality is explicitly seen as negative, while nothing is said about female homosexuality

It's all in the culture. You can blame "old teachings" for this outcome. There are pros and cons in these "old teachings" from old people and they are all man-made.
These old people from the past does not have the advance concept of what we new generations have. Yet we allow ourselves to be imprisoned and locked down to the ways of lives of these old people from the past.
Religion, like countries, man-made borders, politics and a plethora of other things that divide people are all hindrances to the advancement of the human species.
It takes generations to make a difference in the advancement of a society for the better but it only takes one war to take all of that achievement back hundreds of years of how things were in the past.
Unless we could learn from and get rid of these old teachings from the past and embrace our new generation of thinking with all the advancement in technology and society that we have learned throughout the years knowing what is true and what is not, what is right and what is wrong -- man could never reach that true reality of what we are.
The balance between good and evil can never be uphold because as we all know, evil will always do its best to achieve what it wants and good will never always win because it always try to do things which it thinks would be the right and good way.
But hope always is in sight and things takes slowly. Someday we will reach it. We may not be the very people but let us pave the way for the future where we all belong and are accepted.
Let us teach our children, the young generation of how we envision our future because they will be the ones in the forefront of change.

@fysmaran I believe most of it is because society was in most part men focused, and you know a lot of straight men have a fetish for lesbians, or the fact that for a bunch of time having multiple wives was fine, so I'm willing to bet that's mainly why, and I'd wager that's the case with most cultures too.

you are right, especially when you say that for a bunch of time having multiple wives was fine ... just for a bunch of time, in my office we are realizing that after giving Ladyes a finger, they they claim to have the whole arm (it's an Italian proverb); D

@Rotron I can see that we came from the same country and you are right, gay relationship is much accepted here inspite of ours being a predominantly christian country.
Although gay marriage is another topic, maybe not in my lifetime.
-
@kalayaan Yes, Kababayan. We are lucky to be in a better accepting society compared to others. Even in the military. Though there are still more to fight for like gay marriage, I view it more as a formality. Love knows no bounds and it should be free to roam and explore.
Thailand though is way ahead of us and hopefully gay marriage would also get legalized in their country. I have heard of this in several Boys Love series and other phrases they use to educate and instill into younger generations. You will not miss it. Just like the ones mentioned at the end of Bad Buddies.
Though being Roman Catholics are what makes us much more accepting of being gay, it may also be the wall that we might fight against in terms of being more open and showing Boys Love in local regular television programming.

If you read various holy texts, especially the Abrahmic ones, it seems that men are supposed to be producing more people to increase the size of the nation/city-state and religion. Being gay does not help the cause.
You have to remember that the region was constantly at war.
Men were supposed to fight and reproduce.
With women, you could rape them and thereby force them to reproduce.
Even in later times, men were still expected to do manly stuff to help out society.
In the western world, non-land-owning men got the right to vote as a trade-off for the draft and the fire fighting "bucket lines". Women got the right to vote with no conditions attached.

@raphjd true, in the past the role of men was this, now the role of men is to provide income for state welfare, especially for women ... once men had the task of providing directly for their family, now the tendency is to assign this task to the state, through taxes ... the role of father in Western societies has been annihilated, recently in Italy we have tried to understand the reasons for the decline in the birth of new children, all of possible causes have been taken into consideration, but curiously one is excluded, the fact that in Western countries a father has many duties and almost no rights, this is certainly not an incentive for many young fathers to become such ...at best, everything a father will do for his children will be considered the bare minimum ... in the event of separation, a father will be forced to leave the marital home (even if it is his exclusive property), grant a maintenance allowance for the children (and also for the wife, if she does not have an income of her own), see the children only when it pleases the mother (many times the dates granted by the courts for the visits between fathers and children are repeatedly ignored by mothers), risk being accused of harassment and injury ...no wonder that in the West within a couple it is the woman who asks for the conception of a child ... if the potential father hesitates he is considered selfish and immature, vice versa if he were to desire the conception of a child he would figure like a male chauvinist who wants to oppress the freedom of his partner ...with these premises it is inevitable that Western society is heading towards an inexorable decline
