Downloader Inspires Uploader to Take File Down
-
Thanking an uploader by giving points and using the Thank You button DO NOT indicate if the file is good or not, just that people thanked the uploader for posting the file. 99.99999999999% of all that takes place the second they decide to download the file.
I learned THAT the hard way. I thanked someone and awarded SBP for a torrent that looked like it would interest me. (I actually commented on it in the "monitoring bad uploaders" thread). After three whole days, nobody (according to my torrent client) had more than 17% of a 1 GB file. Coincidentally, I searched the site and found the same movie, but at a size of over 2 GB with 2 seeds. I killed the earlier download and I took a chance on the newly found torrent and had the entire movie in mere hours. Due to that happenstance, I've decided to reserve awarding points until I see how quickly traffic is moving and see that it won't take me an entire week to download a 1 GB file.

May I remind you that you made a similar observation: "the site has a 5 star torrent rating system.
Though we have to face facts - it is dead, no-one, or very few and very seldom, rates torrents
and no-one takes into account that rating when choosing a torrent to download."
http://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=15585.0The observation was made for the rating system, not for the comments. And the quote you offered is cut out of context. The whole idea was to reform it for more useful purposes, not to dispose of it. Because I believe improving doesn't always mean removing.

I believe improving doesn't always mean removing.
And you imply that I do believe that "improving .. always mean(s) removing"?
This is what offends me about your attitude/remarks. -
I am sorry to hear that you had experienced belligerent comments.
Strange. I rarely come across any of these. Here is one example from 2 years ago but still visible, before I started posting anonymously
(and before seedbonus points were offered)
http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=44822Here is a more recent example
http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=92926The "Rating" is "3.3 out of 5 with 3 vote(s) total"
3 votes! Is that a representative sample?
The 5 "Comments" are mostly negative.
But 35 people chose to thank me and gave me 207 seedbonus points.
I'd like to direct raphjd's attention to the comment from almaral:
"After watching the movie I decided to give more seeds bonus."But now that you are anonymous anyway, why do you care?
I upload almost exclusively in the Themed Movie category.
Far fewer comments are posted there than in the porn categories.
I put a great deal of effort into my uploads.
So, I am concerned that some jerk with an ax to grind will post one nasty comment,
which will stop many people from giving the movie a chance and all my effort is for nought. -

I actually thought that the comments were not that bad! Pretty civil.
Don't forget that people have opinions and many others have another one. Some may hate the movie because there is no gay action, others might like it anyway.
Don't take all of this too serious. I personally am not deterred from downloading something just because somebody else said that he didn't like it. There was that movie the other day with Tori Spelling and everybody bitched about it. So what? I downloaded it and thought that it wasn't that bad after all.And the ratings don't count anyway. Too many ratings are based on personal preferences which might not be mine.
If I have learned one thing here: if you get a bitchy comment, don't respond! Your response and justification is an invitation for more confrontation. Just let it go. Just answer if you like where the conversation is going. If not: write a response to get it off your chest but DO NOT press the send button! Its a no win situation.

That wasn't a very Christian thing to do
(I love Steel Magnolias too)

"After watching the movie I decided to give more seeds bonus."The fact that someone came back after watching the video and gave you more SB, is an extremely rare thing.
I'm willing to bet that 34, probably all 35, of those thank you's came at the same time they started downloading, not after watching the videos. And with the exception of Almaral's 2nd set of SB, I'm willing to bet that all the SB you got was at the time of download, not after watching the video.

I can't speak for others, but I can assure you that I have returned to torrent listings
to give seedbonus points after viewing videos.
Am I that atypical?
I have no way of knowing.
