Reposting a Torrent to another Site
-
Is there any etiquette on reposting someone else's torrent on another site? I have had it done to me; but surely there must be some grace period. I posted a torrent and it was posted on other site within two days. I am all for sharing, but do give credit where credit is due…

The most general etiquette across the various sites, as you imply, is crediting the the original poster by nick and site (if available) or those of the poster you got the material from (when the original poster is unknown). Sometimes you see credits for the guy who encoded the stuff. And when you recode from someone's DVD posting to something smaller, it is outright rude to not credit the guy who spent bandwidth on posting the DVD version.
Or at least, this is my perception of common courtsey. -
Thanks for the Reply Neo. I just reseeded a film and did just that; but unfortunately I did not catch his user name to thank him properly.

I usually ask the uploader "elsewhere" if it is ok to repost their torrent. Everytime I have asked I get the same answer…once content is shared it's free to anyone else to share. If someone shares my hard work elsewhere, I don't mind it one bit.

It's a hit and miss sort of thing.
Not all people mind when you post their uploads to other sites, while others hate it with a passion. Just check to see if they said something in the torrent description about it. If they do not say in the description that they do not want you to do it, then go ahead and repost it elsewhere.
As for giving credit, this is another unclear situation. Most people that you get the upload from are not the original uploaders to the internet. While it's nice to ask for upload credit, I never do because I don't want my name associated with countless files floating around the internet so it's easier for me to get busted.

I think unless the uploader said something NOT to share at other places, it will be OK if you mention that you got it elsewhere and thank the uploader without to mention who it was.
That is a compromise between mention the uploader name (not all like that their nick is mentioned on the web) and not thanking at all.
Personally I a very happy if I see my encodings uploaded somewhere and it's mentioned by the poster that he got it somewere else. Like raphjd, I don't like my nick being mentioned.
