Ratio difficulty
-
On one hand.. I get very pissed at the recent flood of people using "Tricks" to increase their ratio by uploading altered files that were intentionally altered for no other reason than to make them "different" from existing files. When I see a 1.9 GB file which is seen as different from a 1.9 GB file on another site.. and do a bit by bit comparison.. and I find that the files are 99.99999% identical.. with just one or two bytes altered.. I know that there is something rotten in the state of Denmark. (that's from Shakespeare)
On the other hand, I can understand WHY these people do this. I seed the most popular files there are on the site every day.. 24 hours a day.. and also seed most of the freeleech files. My ratio should be through the roof, but it is a struggle to maintain even a 2:1 ratio.
On other sites, I don't upload anything (because they don't have the equivalent of QTM), and I rarely seed their files.. yet without even trying, I typically get a 3:1 ratio or better. I look at my uTorrent client and add up how much I have uploaded.. and it shows that I have uploaded over 200TB to GTRU.. yet my profile says I have only uploaded 15 TB
I don't really care for myself.. because I never have a problem running out of credits.. but I point this out to show why OTHER people go to such extremes to cheat and get credits so they can download stuff.I also realize that someone at the site is making quite a few files "freeleech" to help people build their ratios. That's very nice.. but it should not be necessary.

Since posting my comment about not getting UL points 2 days ago…
my UL points seem to be properly accumulating now.
I suspect someone fixed the problem. -
I think it's more about the tracker catching up. The site owner has to adjust the various settings to keep the tracker online with all the users and torrents. It's kinda like those emails that someone sent you 2 weeks ago that finally arrive in your inbox.

Just an FYI… That "someone" who has been going on mini freeleech binges is usually me. I look through torrents at random and look for ones that meet certain criteria to be able to help bring them back to life before they die. This is often a much needed boost for one or more users, as a lot of the torrents are being seeded by people who need the ratio boost, however there are no leechers downloading their torrents, and therefore, no upload traffic possible.
See... Leechers are an incredibly important part to increasing one's ratio. If there are no leechers, there is no upload activity... plain and simple.
@lololulu19: You're one such user whose profile I have gone through and "spruced things up" a little.

I routinely make my torrents with less than 5 seeders free leech. When members ask for help, I go through their seeded torrents and do the same thing.

Thanks.. before sprucing.. I felt like I was stuck in quicksand.

I find the opposite to be the case most of the time.
I joined in 2007, and I'm currently on the naughty step for not seeding enough, and my ratio has fallen to 0.751.
My profile stats show that I have about 35 torrents seeding. and yet 26 of these show no uploads at all. My uTorrent paints a slightly different picture, showing a total seed of 35 torrents, but with only 11 showing no activity for uploads
Clearly there was someone, somewhere who seeded the file to me, but I can't imagine that I am only one of two people who wish to view these files.
I have downloaded torrents and wait upto two months after download to see if I can obtain the file before deleting the torrent, as there are so many dead torrents on the site, mcu more than I have ever seen before.
I have the files on a standalone server on a 400 Mbps connection, with no proxy.
I'm not a wealthy man, and the donation page says 100€ to restore my ratio. However unless I change my viewing habits, or cease to use the site for downloads, this will only last a few weeks at most before my eclectic tastes once again put me on the naughty step.

If that's really the case you must be doing something wrong
I'm using a 100Mbit server, don't do anything special and usually get at least a 5+ ratio on most torrents pretty quickly…Make sure you grab recent torrents sometimes as they get the most traffic; also large collections can help you build a ratio pretty easily.

There are a LOT of files available and it seems that the ones in the "Most Popular Torrents" list stay popular because they're on that list. New files and freeleech files also seem to get a lot of traffic. I have many files that I've downloaded that have never had any upload traffic. Sometimes one like that will attract a downloader after a few years and many times I'm the only seeder at that point, so don't give up hope on those as long as you still want to keep the video.

Occasionally I have obtained a dead file by being patient over a period of months. Sometimes a single seeder will eventually connect for a short time and I snatch a bit and then a week later a little more, etc. Some people don't seed regularly for whatever reason. When I am out of town, I don't seed at all and sometimes that is for a month or more and there are a couple of hundred files for which I'm the only seeder.
You can also ask for a reseed on the page for that torrent. I have only rarely had luck with that but it does work every once in a while. It takes a day or two for people to get the messages, though, and it seems just as likely that they are just seeding intermittently and the messages have nothing to do with it.
If the problem is that there are only one or two seeders and I am not connecting to them, using points to make the torrent freeleech has almost always worked by attracting additional peers that I can connect to. Sometimes renewing my internet connection (turning the modem off and then back on) or closing my torrent software and then reopening it helps connect to seeders for whatever reason.

Seems to me that any problem with your internet connection, proxy settings, etc. would affect either all of your torrents or none of them, so that's probably not an issue.

If you are really in trouble with your ratio and are going to get cut off, then PM me with a link to a torrent you've uploaded and I will give you some seed points on that page as a thank you for uploading it and then you can use the points to buy upload credit.

I see that there are no leechers on the torrents you're seeding. I can help with that by sprucing things up a bit for you.
With that being said, it is also important to make sure that you have the port that your torrent client uses forwarded in your router to your computer, both in TCP and in UDP. This is a critical, yet often overlooked step, which with our tracker, will make a huge difference.

Thanks for your comments, feedback and assistance, these are much appreciated.

One other question if I may.
My torrent client, uTorrentPro 3.5.5, shows one torrent has an upload to download ration of 3.101 which on a file of 2.23GB gives just over 6.5GB uploaded.
My profile stats for the same torrent says 30.84MB upload. I understand that there can be a discrepancy between client and tracker, but a missing 6GB seems a trifle excessive.
This has been the case for almost one week at time of posting (6 days, 14 hours). What can I do to rectify this please?

FWIW, most torrent clients show the total stats since the torrent was added to the torrent client. The stats you see on the site on the other hand will only show the total stats for the active session. If for some reason you stop the torrent, then restart it, close your torrent client, reboot your computer, etc. these stats will reset back to zero once you start seeding the torrent again. As well, there's the fact that your torrent client only updates with the tracker once every 30 minutes per torrent. Stopping the torrent at any point can cause any data since the last tracker update to be lost.
