Biblical banter…
-
I am hesitant about ever mentioning anything about religion for many reasons.. including:
the bible is loaded with ambiguities, and contradictions;
who the various books are directed at is often not clear, and when it is clear, ignored;
the "Old" testament focuses on Israel, and that nobody is worthy, and lots of sacrifices;
the "New" testament basically says that while nobody is worthy.. they are automatically redeemed if they accept Jesus as their savior (which directly contradicts the 10 commandments);
the "New" testament abolishes the concept of sacrifices for sins, by having the sacrifice of Jesus pay for all your sins - except that you are supposed to sorta tithe 10% of your income or otherwise give your money to the church… (hmm..);
since NOBODY gets their ticket to heaven unless they accept Jesus.. that means that nobody who lived before Jesus goes to heaven (including all the characters in the Old Testament such as Moses);
what is the point of anybody following the edicts of the Old Testament if there is no benefit to doing so? nobody comes out a "winner" in the Old Testament;
what is fact, what is fiction, and what is to be taken literally is unclear throughout the bible;My point is.. people need to stop justifying and condemning things based upon the bible. One could say that the bible is a useful tool for teaching morality.. I would dispute that! I would suggest that people turn their brains on, and use their common sense BUT obviously that doesn't work either, because at least half the population is a load of assholes. The assholes - such as Hillary.. consider the other half of the population to be "deplorables", etc.
Millions of people spend their lifetimes wrapped up in religious mumbo jumbo... but to what end? For instance.. in the USA, the most prominent evangelist is currently Joel Osteen. Joel has an answer for everything. His wife is a harpy bitch. Joel had no interest in following in his daddy's footsteps of being an evangelist until he found a way to monetize it.
Here's a fact: Joel Osteen is worth $40 million, and one of his houses is worth $10.5 million. Here is a picture of his humble little home... why would anybody donate money to this man's ministry? -
It's a challenge to tackle the entirety of biblical illogic, but you've certainly addressed many of the core issues with your post, Frederick.
To further your point on biblical veracity, I'm reminded of a friend who used to say, "If it's a feat that's even remotely plausible, it's a miracle. If it's bat-shit crazy, it's a parable. How can they lose?".
I think this thread is really more for Religion & Philosophy, but you did manage to extrapolate biblical canon to ensnare Mrs. Clinton. (Perhaps I'll venture to the Kitchen & Cooking sub-board one day, and find your spaghetti and meatballs recipe with a final instruction, "Don't add Hillary.")
Osteen – what a self-interested snake. Were you also disgusted when his megachurch was caught with doors closed, ignoring the victims of Hurricane Harvey? A sad but telling tale of priorities.

This is the "Politics AND Debate" group, so this group is appropriate for the comment. Believe it or not, there are some people who have tried to undermine the Politics & Debate group by posting their political comments in the general forum! Tsk tsk!
… Osteen had to close his church during Hurricane Harvey because the credit card machines were not working!
However, when the church is open for business, Osteen happily accepts all denominations, but his favorite denomination is the $20 bill.In true mafia fashion, Osteen has all of his family members involved in his racket. His children are now 17 and 22 years old. Expect some fireworks once the kids get a bit older out out of his control
By the way, Hilldog is considering becoming a methodist minister to disseminate her twisted bullshit.

Actually, religion has it's own section and it's all encompassing, unless it has a political slant.
